Womanly-sized riders, unite!

Hehe, I’ve been at that tack shop before! ^^ Very nice lady that owns it.
I bought a pair of brown boots from her, yes, she was super nice!

So, I got the new updated sale list from Robin, and many plus coats are on sale! This leads me to this question - will we not have the great selection of show coats for the plus riders anymore? They are all being clearanced out.

I want to buy one, since they are a great deal, and I only have one coat, but I am losing weight (down 45 lbs so far!) and I hate to buy one that will be too big by the end of summer or fall when I am actually ready to show!

Dilemas, dilemas!
Trust me, there are enough of us here to buy that coat right off you.

Thanks for the feedback on ProChaps, everyone! I am not as Rubenesque as I could be (size 12) but I do have huge calves, and I’ve just Ebayed a pair of ProChaps to replace my Arete Olympians that are falling apart after a full year of hard use.

Speaking of the Arete Olympians, if you were crushed when they were discontinued, give Arete a call. Their gal told me today that she could special-order me a pair from their distributor. Apparently they were discontinued because they didn’t sell well.

Short legs - regular length breeches

I just got my Tropical rider pull on breeches! They fit great, BUT they are so darned long - I am barely 5 feet tall. They scrunch around my ankles and if I pull them up higher they scrunch at the knees which I really do not want. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do???

No kidding, there are a lot of us out there - I am not worried that Robin will sell out all the plus-sized stuff, she is having breeches made for sizes 38-40 in side zip. I also was on the site today, after getting my email, she has a pretty brown pinstripe that I may have to have, darn it. Get to www.thecollectiononlinestore.com my favorite site - she keeps it fun.

send them back to TR they will alter them, not sure how much it will be but they will take care of them for you.

www.justchapsus.com has LOTS of kinds and sizes
When I need new chaps, I’ll check them out for sure. Guess I’ll look at some of the other suggestions here too.
Nice to hear good things about the Cadence breeches. I got some whites to show in this summer (hoping my horse stays sound!) and haven’t dared wear them for fear of trashing them before the first show. I probably should get them on once or twice, just to make sure they feel good…

Have them…love them. But, they DO stretch over time and wearing, so yeah… you might want to wear them a couple of times (just around the house or whatever) to get a feel for them and sort of break them in.

Even if I did not buy them from TR?

Hey, Arete has some Iberian 1/2 Chaps on E-bay with No Reserve!

Yes, I bought a pair of TR’s on Ebay once, and since the seller was a dealer of their product, they honored the exchange I had to do. I figured with their CS, being as good as it is, they would probably take care of your request too.

Just wanted to throw in another plug for ProChaps half chaps. I got a pair on Ebay and they are AMAZING. Better than my former Ariat, Tredsteps, and Arete chaps (although of those three, Aretes were my favorite). The ProChaps are so comfortable that I feel like they’re not even there!

Hi ladies!

What is the latest opinion on the Hispar boots?? I reviewed the posts all over COTH and it seems like there’s been mixed opinions on the quality and fit. Anyone? Are they worth ordering?

Thanks!

Thanks! :D
I just sent back a pair of Hispar boots to Horse, Rider, etc. last week. They seemed to be decently made for the price, but the sizing makes no sense. The calf was SUPER wide up top, but then got very narrow at the bottom (around the lower calf and ankle) and the foot was a lot smaller than a regular shoe size and VERY narrow. They are very stiff and unless your leg is the exact size of the boot, I don’t see them fitting very well.

I’d say its worth a shot, though. Just be sure to measure your leg and foot and if they match the measurements of the boots, give them a try. It was no problem returning them and I got my refund right away.

Keep me posted on what you end up doing. I’m still trying to make a decision about what boots toget.

Good luck!

I recently purchased a new pair (sizing down, yay!) and I have to say…

I’m rather disappointed with them.

The foot sizing seems funky (narrow and longer than my last pair, same foot size) and the while the ankle is fine, the upper calf is… strange.

There is sort of a wrinkle/pucker at the widest part, on the back by the zipper edge… and a barn buddy also got a pair…same pucker, same place. Clearly they are made by a different somebody, going under the Hispar name… because they just aren’t the same quality as the original ones I ordered (about a year and a half ago).

They’ll be fine for schooling, I think… but not so hot for shows.

Honeydoozy - where did you get your Hispars from?

I did notice that the pictures vary from one place to the next… I looked at RidersMall, Horse and Rider, and then eHimalayas. All different prices too. One picture shows a very elegant boot with a small decorative metal piece on the top with “Hispar” stamped into the leather. Another is nothing like that. :frowning:

Well, I’m gonna try a pair of the Classic 1/2 Chaps from Arete’. For $57.90 (including shipping) I figured it was worth the shot, especially since so many people recommended them.

ChocoMare, you are going to LOFF them! I have the brown ones, and they look good and feel good. Easy to do up, too!
I got outbid on Ebay for a pair of the black Iberian…going to keep patiently waiting for another set of those to come up.
Happy riding!
Dee

Thanks Dee. Hey, since you’ve got 'em, how is it around the ankle? I had tried a pair of their Neo Classics and wound up giving them away because the ankle was too big and crinkled.

I have been eyeballing the Iberians (since there’s no way in God’s green earth I will EVER be able to get into tall boots and cannot afford customs) BUT…I hesitate because of the picture they have showing, again, a crinkly ankle. Any thoughts?

Anyone else have the ‘tween’ blues?

Now that I know where to find all these great plus-size clothes… I’m not plus-sized any more.

But I’m not ‘normal horsey catalogue’ sized either. :frowning:

Breeks that fit in the waist are too small in hips/thighs. More stretchy breeks or tights end up with the crotch around my knees by the end of the day. Shirts that fit in the chest/back of shoulders are too big in the neck and shoulder seams. The freaking ASSININE low-rise trend is going to be the death of me. WTF?

I’m just pretty bummed at the moment. I’ve lost a lot (with a good deal to go) and can find street clothes ok these days… but riding clothes are either too big in plus sizes, or too small in non-plus sizes.

:frowning:
