Womanly-sized riders, unite!

PP – I feel your pain girl!!:yes:

Just to let everyone know… I ordered the Hispar field boots. As it turns out, Ridersmall.com and eHimalayas are the SAME COMPANY. At least that is what the man on the phone told me when I called.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I sure hope the boots are worth it.

Thanks Dee. Hey, since you’ve got 'em, how is it around the ankle? I had tried a pair of their Neo Classics and wound up giving them away because the ankle was too big and crinkled.

I have been eyeballing the Iberians (since there’s no way in God’s green earth I will EVER be able to get into tall boots and cannot afford customs) BUT…I hesitate because of the picture they have showing, again, a crinkly ankle. Any thoughts?[/QUOTE]

I find mine OK because I wear them over a more western type Ariat boot, which maybe takes up more leather…now, mine have the “triangle” on the front of the ankle to allow more room - I imagine that you could have that altered fairly inexpensively for a better fit.
I was actually worrying about the Iberians being too small in the ankle - do they have a bit of stretch built in somewhere? I already got burnt with a pair of customs where the ankle was too tight to put my foot through ($250 ten years ago), so I am really afraid to try that again.

RJ Classics Hunt coat

I just wanted to give a shameless plug for Robin over at thecollectiononlinestore. I got a new navy windowpane hunt coat and it fit!!! Robin answered all my questions and when I got my coat she sent a garmet bag with it. I’m not sure if I was more excited about the garmet bag or the coat

Pam

I still love my Hispars, but they are from December 2006, so that would make them one of the “older” versions. I do not use the zippers, I use boot pulls. Makes a huge difference.

Hispars vs. off-shelf boots altered?

Here’s a question for you - as a plus size rider, and a woman with GIGANTIC calves, no off-the-rack boots are going to fit me, other than the hispars. I have a modest budget, so customs are out of the questions.

I am wondering if I would be better off buying the Hispars (had planned on doing that, until reading some not-so-positive reviews here) and hoping they fit the way they should, or buying a pair of off-the-rack boots and having them altered? I am guessing that my calves are in the 18-19 range (I need to measure them now that I have lost 50 lbs, but they were 18-19 at my heaviest), and I know that anything like Ariats, etc will need a couple of inches added to them.

I want something that is going to look nice! When I tried on the Ariats just to see how far off I was from fitting in them, they were definitely a few inches too small in the largest part of my calf.

I would love some opinions from you all, if you have had smaller boots made larger, right off the shelf, or if you would just go with the Hispars. Also, are boots easier to alter when they have a zipper?

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I have enough saved to buy my boots, finally, and I would hate to waste $50 shipping a boot that doesn’t fit, and having to try something else, especially when on a tight budget.

HISPARS

For all of you wondering about the Hispars, here is my recent thread on them and the issues I had.

http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=138229

Just as a refresher, I ordered the 2plus no zippers from ridersmall.com. I now have them altered and they now have a zipper. Read the thread and you will find out why.

ETA: Here is a pic of me in them-- its a very bad picture of me but you can kind of see how they look.

Love my Frank Baines saddle, found one at a second hand tack store. My girlfriend wants one, so we went searching online for a supplier, the closes one is in NC, road trip soon!
It is made in England and not that expensive, but oh so comfortable!

Thanks for the help - I am almost afraid that whether I buy smaller boots and have them made bigger, or larger boots, I might end up having to have them altered no matter what! Thanks for the advice!

shameless plug for plus sized riding apparel

http://www.englishhabit.com/Ladies_Plus_Size_Apparel.html

I’ve recommended my friend’s tack store before on this thread. She has taken her store exclusively on-line, and is working to find good choices for us womanly sized riders. She told me she’s found some breeches that run sizes 36-42, cotton pull-ons, for less than $40. She also has jackets up to size 28, + size shirts, and some inexpensive dress boots in a calf size up to 16-3/4".

(For those who have hard to fit calves looking for boots, I got some semi-custom Rectiligne boots from her a couple of years ago, which I recommended a while ago. She told me Rectiligne got taken over by another company and it’s taking a while for them to get up-and-running again.)

Happy shopping!

After what seemed like an endless hunt for tallboots, for my huge calfs.

Mt Horse, love them, fit and look great, and are comfy to boot

W W!

WOO HOO!!! Tall boots (dress and field) that come in 19-inch calves!!! It’s really true. Check it out on Bits and Barter: http://bitsandbarter.proboards74.com/index.cgi?board=boots&action=display&thread=4381&page=2

Ooh, that’s exciting! I’m moving the needle on the scale southward (finally) but I’ll always be blessed with, uh, curvy calves. It’s good to know I’ll be able to find boots!

I have a pair of tall boots that no longer fit. I can’t seem to sell them in the regular places, is there a plus sized message forum for riders? I think the market for them is pretty low, so if I can increase my chances that’d be great as I need to sell these to replace them with boots that fit. I don’t even have to unzip them to get them on and off anymore!

Post them for free on Bits and Barter: http://bitsandbarter.proboards74.com/index.cgi

Consumer Alert

There is a plus size grey silk/wool Hugo Boss hunt/jump coat (chest 46, waist 42) listed on Ebay right now. Current bid $12.50, auction expires 6/26/08.

It’s not my coat, and I don’t do hunters any more, but thought I’d post it here for anyone looking for a bargain.

Looks like a very nice jacket (there’s a picture of the gal wearing it on her horse and it looks great). I don’t think Hugo Boss makes specifically equestrian riding clothes, but this jacket sure looks suitable and the brand might make other jackets that would be appropriate as well!

bump!

so how aabout those Fits breeches how comfy are they?| i have reg full seats and thhey just dont fit right and i like the stickyness of fullseats. like a yard of fabric at the ankles and the crotch sits too low

Not going to wear something that puts a target on my allready ginormous buttocks! NO NO WAY! I hear they are really comfy, and I have so little hubris left- but Im sticking to my guns, if not the saddle --w/out FITS!

lol right now i dont care if it highlights my butt comfort and freedom of movement are my priority! and those control fabrics sound good too…

hmm… oh well they will have to wait for now as i am a poor student lol

I’ve already plugged these boots on other forums, but Treadstones are another good option for those of us with larger-than-average calves. I was riding in the damn Devon Aire Nouvelle Zips in 9 XW, and the quality was just awful. The only other thing I could find that fit me was the Mountain Horse, and they were so loose around my ankles that they drove me nuts.

My Treastones are size 9 with a 16.25-inch calf. Finding them in the US is a hassle and their size chart is in centimeters, but the quality is outstanding for the price, certainly a big step up from the Devon Aires. Would be happy to post pics if anyone is curious. They make a field boot and dress boot, both with rear zippers, and the dress boot has an elastic gusset:

and here’s one US saddlery I’ve found that carries them (I did not order my Treadstones from this saddlery but I did buy a Casel-Equi vest from them a few years ago and the cust. service was great):
