Womanly-sized riders, unite!

Hi again!

I bought a NWT dressage coat from someone on another forum. I knew it was gonna be a little big, but thought it could work. Um, no. It’s WAY too big…as in too big to even have tailored especially since my show is in less than 2 weeks. So, I’m on the search for another coat. I don’t want to spend more than $150 since I’m an amateur Intro rider (first show!) and don’t plan to do more than possible Training Level/First Levels.

I found an RJ Essenctials Dressage Coat new on Dover and wondered what anyone’s experience is? Do the sizes run true?

As for the coat that I need to now get rid of, it’s an 18/24 brand in SIZE 26 - which fits like a 22-24 in street clothes. Please PM me or email to spotteddrafter@gtownonline.com for more details. Thanks!

Does anybody have the Harry Hall breeches that are on Tack of the Day this weekend? They go up to size 38, but I’ve never seen them in person, so I’m hesitant to order a pair. They have the Royal breech and the Excel breech.

SpottedDraft, I have that RJ Classic Essentail Dressage Jacket it runs true to size I got it from Dover. I like it a lot I was like a kid at xmas when I got it. Good luck at on your tests.

Wow, this was way back on page 4!

I noticed that Rose (EquusNow) has some TS breeches on eBay starting at $1
It looks like there are plenty of 32", 34" & 36" regular, long, and short lengths in white and beige

Who has some good denim full seat breeches? I have lost 36 lbs in the last six weeks and am starting to crave a pair, but full seats only. Anyone have the Tuff Rider denim full seats? They go up to a 34. That will take some time still before I can get into a 34, but that’s My Next Shopping Goal.

congrats coreen!!!

i havent worn tuffriders but i do suggest some plaid breeches(they are flattering on everyone! I love mine!)

Ah yes, but I do not do prints on the bottom half of me. Too much fabric to cover it all, ha ha. Trust me, denim is already a big step away from black/very dark blue. I have some lovely dark brown ones I won’t wear yet for the same reason, still am just doing Very Dark.

But feel jolly because the tailored Mountain Horse vest that another BBer gave me when she lost a bunch of weight now fits! And the lovely belt that I bought a few years back, thinking “One day it will fit,” now fits as well.

It will be a long slog, but I really want to show Oliver next year and there’s just no way I will go in public in white breeches until I am down to a 32.

:lol::lol::lol:

I dont think I will ever venture to white breeches( just asking for a spill)

Ya before i tried the plaids i was llike no way but once you see them on its like wow! they disguise my not toned tummy

but of course i bought a dark plaid

I still have a bit to go to fit in my winter vest(being able to zip it is good)

Olive Shapelys on sale: http://www.equestrian-tack.com/coshbrhicl.html

And 39 lbs as of this a.m.

 congrats once again!

well i have a verdict on the fs Kerrits gripteck tights… GREAT!!! not too sticky at all, no problems posting. the full seat has lots of give so they are very comfy. still a little warm around here to ride long or hard in them, but still love em. the only issue i have with them is that my truck has leather seats and getting out is tough, my @ss sticks to the leather:D, but getting in is fine, strange. oh, and they are supposed to be the flow rise, but at 5’8" and fairly well balanced they are still very high waisted on me. no big deal as they have that big wide flat waist that is easy to fold over:yes:. i got them from gorge-us.girls on ebay for $42 (with tags on), yesterday at my local (high class) tack store they were $89:eek::eek:!! the cargo pocket is perfect for my cell phone and some treats;).

For those with butts like mine- there is a 19" stubben VSD under farm & garden on the Rochester, NY craigslist today.

I’m looking at the Arete plus size half chaps and don’t know whether I should get the ultra suede or the real suede ones. There’s only a $5 price difference, so that’s not a real issue. What are the pluses and minuses of the two materials as far as comfort and wear? This is my first pair of half chaps; any advice is appreciated.

We already wrote about what we’d like the manufacturers to know (not that we did anything about it, but it’s nice to vent, isn’t it?)…now lets talk about the manufacturers we DON’T hate! What brands do you like? Does anyone make clothes that fit a 19" calf and 36" and above waists?

I have some tuffriders, don’t know the model but they’re kind of corded and have knee patches. I like them a lot, although they were a bit warm for summer. I also wear Devonaire tights from Stateline. Country Supply’s tights and On Course summer weight full seat breeches don’t fit over my calves. I have some Ariats, not sure of the model but they retail for about $89, and they BARELY fit…I can show in them, but it’s not fun!

What’ve you got? I need to get a dressage outfit!
Here’s something I found out that flat astonished me–I had about given up on “real” sized breeches because they mostly stop at 34 inch waist and my waist measures 36". I have several pairs of riding tights in Xlarge (Kerits, O’Keahy’s, EQ) that have worked fine and seem roomy enough. One of the Kerrits tights shreds if I think about riding in the sticker bushes, the other seems bullet proof.

Now, the closest tack stores are 90 miles away so I dont get to them often. The other week, a buddy with a fuel efficient vehicle got the urge to shop, and we went to Augusta and I started trying on breeches. Woo, hoo, discovered I can wear Ovation Euroweave side zips in a 34.

We decided to proceed east to Aiken and discovered the consignment bin in one store. I scored a pair of the Cotton Naturals (Shapely)white full seats for 40 bucks, that had a few little blackish smears on the clarino. No real signs of wear. They are nice heavy material but cool enough to be comfortable in August in GA. They’ll be a lot nicer this winter than the tights, and they were size 34. TOO much room for my 16 1/2 inch calf, and I really need longs, but socks and half chaps cover a multitude of sins. These might make nice dressage breeches for ya.

I am too cheeep to buy full seats new (80 bucks) but would certainly invest in the knee patch model. It didnt hurt my feelings that somebody besides me took the depreciation on white pants-God knows anything white that I wear remains white for only about10 minutes before becoming permanently stained anyway.

Ladies, Equestrian Collections has quite a few plus-sized items (lots of show coats, a few pairs of breeches, etc) in their outlet section for really reasonable prices. You have to scroll through each page of items to see what comes in what sizes, but there are some good deals.

NOw, I am not a fan of Equestrian Collections and don’t like shopping there, but they do have a good selection of larger sizes.

Hopefully this link works:

Can anyone recommend HEAVY fleece lined tights or breeches that have a baggier fit or at least a nicer look? If these don’t exist, perhaps I’ll try Chocomare’s suggestion with long undies underneath(?) I don’t want another season of wearing my summerweight TS and freezing my arse off for vanity’s sake…
Cuddleduds are the best winter underclothes, can’t really call them thermals but the thing is finding them in “our” sizes but they sure keep you warm. In fact there’s been many a time when I’ve had to take off my jacket and top shirt and just have the cuddleduds undershirt on because it was sooooooooo warm. The only other thing like it that I can think of is LLBean’s silky underclothes.

Has anyone bought anything from Fuller Fillies? Am looking for some info about quality, fit etc.
Thanks!
Dee

For winter, I have the Irideon breeches (I think the Windpro?) which I like. They are fleece lined with a kind of wind proof outer material. My favorite winter breeches are my Boinks, which are lined with heavy fleece and have a smooth outer fabric. They are too big on me but I keep wearing them because the new ones are different and I don’t like them. The Boinks alone are very warm, but with the Cuddleduds or something similar under them, they are really warm. I bought a pair of the Irideon long underwear pants, and they are incredibly soft and smooth. Sometimes I wear them like sweats or pajama bottoms around the house because they are so comfortable.

2nd the Irideon Windpro. I just got a pair of tropical rider toasties that seem nice, but a bit out of season yet to try… I got XL and they fit fine, even tho Im a 1X in Irideon. (maybe even a little baggy, but for winter fine!) I especially love winter riding pants. Im right in the 36-37" waist range as well- just out of reach of the “regular sizes”

You to need to go to The Collection website and check out the plus stuff - and, in breeches, Robin (the owner) had the same Show Circuit breeches made that Equestrian Collections carries, and charges $50 less. You need to email her for the breeches in 38 and up, but all the size 46-50 shirts and the bigger sizes in coats are on the site. You should go there.
