Womanly-sized riders, unite!

Some good finds on plus size apparel to share! I don’t really NEED anything, but I still like window shopping, so I’m passing these deals on to anyone else who might be interested.

TOTD has Kerrit tights in 1x and 2x, at least last I looked.

Some good deals on eBay.

I always get my breeches from my favorite store, below, and the “fuller” sizes are now the same price as the “smaller” ladies sizes. It is so hard to find the “endowed” sizes.

But I will check these out, too. Thanks for doing the research.

Dee Thbd, the Irideon Cadence Cords look fabulous. VERY slimming and good support.

ONLY thing with corded breeks is they are loud. Chubrub. Swoosh, swoosh… I try not to walk much in them… :uhoh:

Can anyone tell me how the Kerrits winter pants fit vs. the Irideon winter pants vs. the old Boinks?? I had a fabulous, amazing pair of boinks in 2x that they don’t make any more (the double layer) I got a pair of the new stuff in 1x and while it fits, it is HORRIBLY thin. Wind goes right through it and no support–major orange peel. :dead: I’m looking at sales on the Kerrits & Irideons… but no idea how they fit. I have a pair of kerrits tights in 2x which are generous in waist and hips, and rather tight at knee and calf… Irideon Cadence Cords are perfect in 2x, so 2x in the winters?

Help.

I’ve been away from the board for a while for complicated home stuff, but I HAD to get on and share some joy on this thread- I got myself a pair of the Mountain Horse classic high rider dress boots for xmas, and they are really nice. I’m a dress boot devotee, and i’d been having an awful time trying to find some that didn’t look like car seat covers with the seats still in them to fit my mundo calves. I’m blown away at how attractive these are. The leather & workmanship are very nice, and I haven’t had any issues with the heel box rubbing, a problem i’d encountered with other MH boots. They have broken in very easily as well- just from walking around the house, of course, as I haven’t had any inclination to wear them out in winter in NY. On a related subject, did you know that the UPS man looks at you a little wonky when you answer the door in a bathrobe, breeches & boots?

My winter Irideon full seats (2X) fit slightly snugger than the 2X Cadence Cords. But they are still doable. I have worn mine basically ever riding day this winter.

If you are looking for double layer knee patches, Freedom Rider sells some in plus sizes. Warning: they run large.

Questions about the Arete Iberian II half chaps…

I am 5’5" with about a 30" inseam…my measurements around the calf show I should get a large, but my question is more about the height measurement. They say to measure from the instep to the back of the knee, meaning that the measuring tape is actually curving around your leg…??? Just want to check with those of you that have bought them to see if that is the accurate way to measure…

Basically, do you find that these tend to run tall or short? I typically wear a medium height Ariat field boot (or I used to, when I could get my fat little calves in them :(). Anyone else wear this same height Ariat boot that can clue me in to the Arete Iberian II’s?

Another thing, are they of the quality (or nice enough appearance) that I could wear them to local schooling shows (formal attire not required) without looking completely cheesy? I mean, I know my Ariat Terrain half chaps would look totally cheesy…I’m looking for something with more of the tall boot apprearance…would these do it? Until I can get back into my regular field boots, that is…

I have the Iberian I, and I find the height very medium.

And yes, definitely attractive enough to wear to show in if you’re thinking of wearing half chaps and paddocks.

Just a heads up…great place to buy full-figured womens riding attire? Have you tried your local Goodwills and (non-horsey)consignment shops? (I have found that horsey consignment shops…KNOW what they’re selling…and price [above] accordingly. The non-horsey shops just think they’re “funky pants.”)

I found three pairs of breeches - two with tags on them - at the local Humane Society thrift store; however, they were too large for me (that’s a good feeling - lol). They also had a hunt coat (too small in the “upper area” for me), and a pair of full chaps (too small for me). The best part is…this particular thrift store has a $5 bag sale (all the clothes you can fit into a bag for $5!)

Nix, Nski - shirt sale, huh?

Ill say, I couldnt resist ordering one!

With the economy the way it is, I hope she hangs in there, there is no where like her store, in person or online.

OMGiH, FABULOUS plus size breeches!

I started a sep thread about it as well, but these are D-I-V-I-N-E!!!

OMGiH, a friend told me about this company that has the Horka brand of breeches from Holland! They are plus sized and FABULOUS, I have some Horkas and I loooooooooooove them:

Here’s the link to the Full Seats:

I am ordering some today. I love this brand. This supplier carries cool stuff you won’t find everywhere.

They have $30 off for the next month! The coupon code for the kneepatch is FLX and for the Full Seat is FLX2.

These look great–it’s hard to get full seats in plus sizes with decent pockets!
Thanks for the link.

How does the sizing compare to, say, Shapely’s?

I have always thought the Shapelys are a bit generous. These run more true to size.

Okay, I have a question that I should know the answer to, but I don’t. How do the sizes work when the waist size is give, i.e., 38R, 40R, etc.? Do they translate directly to your waist measurement?
I wear a size 20 pant in street clothes. I haven’t bought any riding clothes since I was young and about 70 lb thinner. I think it is time.

How about the length?

These look really nice, but I’m concerned about the length. The write-up on the website says something about European brands running longer. I have short legs. How would you say these run??

Let me dive in here for a bit to explain about sizing, here is a conversion chart and when I figure out how to do this on my website, I will post a nice sizing chart, but this ecommerce thing is a bit new for me… so bare with me

First US dress size, European Size, Breeches size

18 48 36R
20 50 38R
22 52 40R
24 54 42R
26 56 44R

If you want to know a measurement for a size, just email me marieke jonkman @ hotmail.com (no spaces), I’d be happy to answer that and make sure you got the right breeches for you.

I have been wearing Horka breeches for 20+ years, they last, good material, and in general they make breeches for women, not sticks, their models are shaped (in the Netherlands there is a saying that horsewomen by definition have butts and hips). Off all the breeches I have sold since starting about 6 months ago, every single client has bought at least 1 more (1 lady went quite far and bought 5!).

And Horka is excited to work with me, and when the time comes when we have figured out which sizes go best, we are hoping to expand in different (fashion) colors, so this is hopefully just the beginning. Originally they only were going to do black, but per my suggestion chocolate and tan (for you H/J ladies) were added.

And this fabric is really nice. 4 way stretch, soft, and great quality. Thick enough that slight imperfection are not broadcasted loudly, yet not so thick that you can not ride during the summer. Added to that the wicking attribute, and you have an all-season breech.

Have questions, email me!

Thanks for the info, Coreene and Marieke!

Thank you so much Marieke. I’m going to print that off and keep it in my purse for reference.
