When they arrive, if they don’t fit, I’ll let ya know. (I’m too much of a cheapskate to put them back on eBay and pay fees…) I’m short, but very “hippy.” So we’ll see.

Still no boots yet from Nittany, and it’s been a week. If they don’t show up today, I’m going to call and see if/when they were sent…
CNVH- I’ll be very curious to hear about your report on the Nittany boots- please post back. I’m considering ordering a pair, but would like some feedback before I place the order. THANKS!

I’ll report as soon as they arrive. They SHOULD have arrived by now, but apparently Holly forgot to throw them in the mail last week. I called her two days ago and she assured me they would go out that night, which means they should be arriving by tomorrow, Monday at the absolute latest.

I just about had a breakdown in Middleburg Tack Exchange yesterday. I think I tried on 15 pairs of boots and every single one of them wouldn’t close by an inch. It is so depressing trying to find boots, even worse than bathing suit shopping.

I am probably just going to have to break down and buy the Hispar’s. After I do that I will send mine to get a gusset put in them. My current ones are ok except for putting them on in the afternoon/evening. Once I have them on, they don’t come off.

No truer words were ever spoken.

Please see my thread in OffCourse about a new source for Fuller Fillies for southern Ontario / Western New York peeps!
Cheers,
Dee

I hear you on this. I can’t find a pair of tall boots to fit my freakishly large calves to save my life. I know that if I ever want to compete (and the jury is still out on that one right now) that I’m going to have to suck it up and go custom. It really is demoralizing, I feel like a freak of nature or something.

I am another who will never fit into an off the rack boot. Petries can be customized for about 150$ more than the base price of the boot. Custom calf for me.

Ambrey squirms in her chair and oozes jealousy from her pores.

I just got the Arete half-chaps thanks to this thread and they fit like a charm!

Thanks everyone.

On another note, I read in the H/J forum that a custom Vogel boot can cost $1000. Is that the lowest price for a custom boot these days? I got a pair of custom Vogels in my early 20s just because I couldn’t find a boot to fit me and was planning on getting another pair when I save up some cash. But the boots were a little over $300 then which was pricey but still doable. I was expecting the price to be around $500-600 which for a well made and long lasting boot that fits would definitely be worthwhile but $1000 is definitely not doable.

I think you can get the semi-custom Petries for less, but not the model Lewin got. The Petrie Perfects are not so much, and I think they can be had in a wider calf.

If you don’t mind synthetic boots, they look and feel just like leather by the way Dover has some called I think Pony Club boots? I buy a pair every 3 years or so as I wear them everyday and at shows. I am 5’3 and the height is perfect, and the calf sizes fit great ( I have HUGE calves, even when I am in shape they are so large from muscle!)

The Petrie Perfects can be had for 300ish. If you add the price for the custom calf it comes out to 450$ for a good boot. It will just not have as many fancy additions. Keep in mind though it will take 12-16 weeks to get them.

I do hear you about the increased prices. When I bought my effinghams 8 years ago they were about 300$. Vogels will actually run you more like 1500$. The quote I got for Dehners was 1600$!

I did a quote on derdaus website and my boots came to about 700.00. I don’t think I can talk the other half into letting me spend that much on boots right now. He will got for 250, but not 700. I will get der dau’s in time…I would love a boot that fits my high arch, and that will only be with custom.

Dehner boots listed on ebay:

Listed as motorcycle boots but they look like field boots to me. Large calf and not too tall. Need to be resoled but appear to be in decent condition. No reserve.

Listed measurements:

17" in total height ( ¾" heels)
11 ¼" from back to front of the boots
4 ¼" across the widest part of the soles
22" around boot mouth
19 ½" around widest part of the leather shafts
16" around above the ankles.

Der Dau customs start at $600, I believe Vogels start at $700. That is a basic boot in domestic leather with zero frills (no zippers, rubber ripple soles, punched toe caps, etc.) Options add up fast. I think my vogels last year were $1200.

Custom boots can be ordered inexpensively through other manufacturers…my brown boots are full custom, beautiful, and cost me $500 incl. shipping from Argentina.

Hmmm, I don’t think I ordered any options with my original pair; I just wanted a decent fit. I know they didn’t have zippers; I don’t remember ordering rubber ripple soles or punched toe caps.

That’s another of my problems. Along with narrow feet, even narrower heel and ankle, short lower legs and a tremendous calf. The Arete chaps I got are great but even they have a little excess material above the ankle. Most legs with calves like mine don’t taper off so quickly below the calf.

I’m in no hurry; the chaps/paddock boots combination works for now.

Any curvier ladies have experience with Irideon low-rise breeches? I just won a pair of Irideon cadence low-rise KP breeches in XL on eBay, obviously haven’t tried them on yet… I have a few pairs of Irideons in XL and they fit fine, but never low-rise. Am I deluding myself?

(If they don’t fit, anyone else want them? Otherwise it’s off to craigslist…)
FYI, the low-rise Irideon cords arrived over the weekend and they fit great, except perhaps a bit too long. I was worried that the waist being too “low” but they feel fine. My only gripe is that, being cords, there’s a bit of a “grasshopper” effect when I walk, but it’s probably not noticeable to anybody but me.

So, sorry to the ladies who were interested in these if they didn’t work out for me, but I decided to keep 'em. (And for about $40 including shipping, I think I did pretty well!)

I found a German or dutch (which ever) website, that has Konigs that they call the practical model (favorits) that can be fully customs for 433 euros, which is around 530 dollars right now, I plan on ordering them soon, they are full customs with a zipper. It is of course cheaper if you only need semi customs or don’t want a zipper. They are from Calevo.com
