Womanly-sized riders, unite!

It sounds like equissentials made a mistake on paperwork! That is such a bummer :frowning:

It’s not necessarily duties and taxes, but the brokerage fee itself that bites you in the ass. I once bought a pair of Victoria’s Secret PJs… $35 in the catalogue turned into over $80 on my credit card when duties, taxes and brokerage fees were added. The brokerage fee was the lion’s share of the extra $45. :o

Oh, that’s UPS? I’ve heard that about them.

Thanks for the chill pill, y’all

Dee, thanks for your offer.
They were breeches I already paid for, and have worn many, many times.
Equissentials alters them at no charge when you lose weight.
I will PM you.

Ambrey,
No, Equissentials didn’t make an error. They shipped USPS and their paperwork was correct – Canada Customs chose to misinterpret.

GoodyTwo,
They charged $65.71 in PST and GST on breeches that I’ve already paid taxes on, and owned for over two years – which were altered free of charge.

Sorry :frowning: That stinks.

Okies, there is a way to get it all sorted out!
If you still have the original receipt for the breeches, that is your proof that they were previously imported into Canada, and they are now Canadian goods.
The other (easier) solution is to get a letter from Equissentials stating that the breeches were used, sent for alterations and returned, with a dollar value of X for the cost of alterations. Contact customs and you should be able to get it sorted out to your satisfaction. If you still run into roadblocks, PM me and I will help you get on the right track.
Good luck!
Dee

If you were getting ready to start riding again…

Sticking this here because hopefully it’ll be useful for future womanly-sized riders.

I’m hoping to start taking lessons again as soon as I find someplace I like to ride. So to that end, I have been considering my options re: boots. (I got a nice pair of microcord breeches from TotD which I figure will be just fine for schooling once a week for now.)

I still have my paddock boots from when I took lessons many years ago, and they seem okay - they were quite good quality when I got them, and my feet haven’t changed size, so with a bit of a clean and polish to get the leather really nice again, I think they should be okay. (Probably - I might take them in to have someone look at one of the elastic panels. Anyway.)

Thing is, it does seem like getting a pair of used tall boots may not be THAT much more expensive than buying a pair of washable suede half-chaps. So I’m torn between just getting the half chaps, or trying for boots. (Admittedly, tall boots that go for that price range are not super-spiffy 100% show quality, but there are a few that look like they’d polish up fine for a schooling show or local show, which is the most I’m likely to do anyway right now, as I don’t have a horse and can’t afford to lease one.)

So would you go for the used tall boots at a little more (say $30-$40 extra over the half-chaps) or just stick with the suede/fake suede half-chaps for now? My calves are in the area of 15.5-16" (with breeches and socks) and my legs are short, so it does limit the options a little when it comes to off-the-rack boots. (WHY must they all add at least an inch to the height when they make the boots wider? We do not all have lovely long supermodel legs!)

(I’d probably then save up with an eye towards possibly getting some custom or semi-custom boots from one of the lower-end makers - I do have arthritis in my feet and am really a 7 1/2 wide foot but can make do with an 8 regular, so there is some attraction to the idea of possibly getting something customized to fit properly instead of an ‘okay’ off-the-rack.)

wide calf boots

Equus now has lovely tall boots- field boots zip ups with 18" calfs- it looks like a new line.[/QUOTE]

Ooooo…do they have a website/link? I g:)oogled & couldn’t find it.

Nevermind. Found them…too bad they aren’t a little cheaper.

Just figured I’d say: after seeing so many people recommend the Enell sports bras, I ordered one myself to wear when riding. I wore it for the first time at a little schooling show last weekend. I forgot to ask how “bouncy” the girls looked but it was definitely more comfortable than my everyday bra! So just figured I’d toss that out there.

And just because, a picture with one of our shinyshiny second place ribbons.

CONGRATULATIONS Analise! You both look fab!!!

Yay Analise!

BTW I did get my Tropical Rider breeches, after I sent them 2 emails. They were very apologetic. I am keeping one pair and returning the rest; I’d ordered 5 because I wasn’t sure how their size range would go. Sadly, the size M Enduracools were too small even though they advised to order down a size if one might be in between. I’d love to keep the Legacies but really have no use for them right now (they are cream; they would be for dressage shows, but I’d need to get my horse a new pad and myself a new show shirt, and money is tight…) Low rise breeches usually fit me, but TRs did not.

Side complaint: WHY don’t more retail outlets sell short/petite breeches and other riding apparel? I’d never tried TRs because the local shops carry regular and longs only. If I had not gone to their website I never would have known that ALL TR breeches are available in petite/short length. A lot of us out here are short and/or short-legged, fat or thin!

Thanks! It was a fun experience! I haven’t done much showing (like, that was the second EVER and the horse’s first time out) so it made for a good experience.

What Size Irideons?

Yea! I am so excited! This weekend I tried on a pair of Irideon schooling tights size XL and they fit! They may not have been exactly “becoming” but they fit and felt comfortable for riding. They weren’t in my budget to buy, but I just wanted to know if they would fit. Hallelujah! I am really excited to have found them.

Now I am wondering–do any of you have experience with Irideons, sizes XL through 3X? I’m just wondering if I would be better off buying the XL (when I can afford them), or ordering one of the larger sizes. I normally wear about a 20 or 22 in regular pants and jeans. (Although the other day at Wal-Mart I tried on a pair of 12-14 pants that looked roomy and they fit too-though not as well as the XL Irideons).

I am glad to see this thread is still going strong–IMO this is the best COTH thread (I just haven’t had the money to go shopping recently for riding clothes, or much computer access, so haven’t visited this thread recently).

I find the Irideons fit fairly small… their winter weight ones at any rate. I’m a size 18 and I have the 2X and would have likely felt less squeezed into the 3X. :o

I think it depends a little on how you’re built and how you like your pants to fit - I’m an 18 in street clothes, but can do 1x or 2x in the Irideon Cadence Stretch Cords - 2x is a little roomy, 1x is snug (my old 3x’s are just too big)

LOVE those Irideons though… the best!

I measured my waist/hips[the measuring tape kept moving around. :\ ] and it turned out to be in the high 40’s… My schooling breeches are Devon Aire and they’re a 38 and fit fine, but they’re high-waisted… :\ Where can I find show breeches that would fit? Does anyone have any ones that would fit that they don’t use and would be willing to sell? Oh, and does anyone have a 38 or 40 show shirt? I have a green Devon Aire jacket, size 20 I could trade. (:

I love, love, love the Horka breeches. Proportionally I don’t have the large hips/smaller waist build and they fit me beautifully without cutting me in half at the waist or being way too big through the hips. I think they run a little on the generous side.

I’m not sure where they showed up on this thread but if you search I’m sure you can find the post.

Well worth the money.

I have two show shirts that are size 38. I have been trying to sell them on the bits and barter board, but no luck. You can have them if you pay for shipping. They are clean, but wrinkled since they have not been ironed. Both are long sleeved, one is white, one is light blue with a pink plaid pattern.

Let me know if you want one or both. I can easily put them in a mailing envelope and send them out.

For breeches, I would try on the Ariats. I have them in the regular rise size 36 and they fit good. I suppose it depends on how you are built.
