Womanly-sized riders, unite!

Wise decision TTP

Now girls… I need you all to jingle/pray for me. I am embarking on the journey to dropping 50 pounds. I have no desire to be a stick–just healthier and three sizes smaller.

When I’m there, watch Bits and Barter cuz I’ll be selling the bigger riding clothes

Best wishes Chocomare!! You’re a bolder woman than I.
I need to lose 25 just to get back into my tall boots, but could really stand to lose 100. God that’s depressing to type…
My fervent hope is that now that I’m starting to ride like a person who actually remembers how to use her aids and stuff a little bit, I’ll be burning more calories horseback than I have been in quite a while. Well, since I lost the great gray mare I guess. If I can put a dent in it, I can use a couple pounds as encouragement to lose a couple more…and hopefully inch my way back DOWN the scale! What I would REALLY like it to be able to twitch my nose like Samantha in Bewitched and be just right for my 5’3" frame – in weight and athleticism.

Ok, ok. We all know that the revamped State Line Tack (aka horse.com, aka country supply) has issues BUT… sometimes for a big sale you have to make an exception.

Today’s deals for us big girls:

Ariat Taos Vest up to XXL $30 - in 3 color choices

Pebble Fleece Jacket up to XXL - $37

Ariat Power Stretch Tights up to XXL - $40

What are the issues?

If you do a search in this form. for State Line Tack, you’ll find the examples but the gist is: poor customer service, pain in the neck to return things, long delays in getting refunds credited, etc.

I was making good progress in losing weight…but hit a road block. This week I have been focused on losing weight again.

I got my boots stretched out and they fit perfect. SO I will be listing my wide calf boots up for sale soon. They are great just to big for me. When my legs aren’t swollen you can stuff a few crops in my boots.

Does anyone have the tights? How do they fit? I’m a size 20. Do you think they will fit? I have bought a vest before and that fit larger then the size chart stated. Thanks ladies!!

I don’t have the Power Stretch ones but rather 3 pairs of Ventura Tights by Ariat. I feel they run a tad big. I am a 22/24 but am fine in the XL Venturas.

Thank you!!!

You go girl!

I lost about 60 lbs in 2004, kept all of it off for three years, but in the last two of living with my SO I have experienced Creeping Fat Syndrome. Not all of it, thank all my gods, but I have about 17 lbs to peel. Bleeeh. Not being the sole human being in the house, I lost Supreme Control over all food items and if it is here, I’m gonna want to nosh on it. We’ve negotiated a mutual health food improvement.

I have found fitday.com a VERY helpful web site. Another site with tons of great information is annecollins.com, which has lots of weight loss research, food info, calorie calculators, etc. If you need to eat out, dottiesweightlosszone has links to many chain restaurants with the calories in various meals. Some that seem like good choices are terrible, and vice versa.

Hope that helps. I have a little chat list over on yahoo for horse ladies trying to live healthier, which is also a good motivator. If you can get a friend or two to go in it with you, that makes it easier–I still remember when I lost my first 25 lbs and one of my healthy eating friends announced “that’s a whole Thanksgiving turkey!”

I am no string bean, never have been one, and don’t want to be one. But I do know I feel healthier, more energetic, find it easier to ride well, and can get more comfortable when I am fitter and trimmer.

Good luck to you!

I lost 82 lbs since late June 2008. You’ll have no prob!

Way to go, Coreene.

How is the Western Bling collection coming a long?

What’s the calf measurement?

Coreene - that’s AWESOME!!! Can you tell me in a nutshell how you’ve done it?

I’ve slowly put on a ton of weight over the last several years, thanks to a combination of some medical issues and a “well, crap, pass the donuts” mentality. It wasn’t a problem with the horse because I haven’t ridden in 10 years…I was the Chief Barn Slave for my gelding. I’ve managed to lose about 25 pounds in the last few months, but I have a lot more to lose. One thing that motivates me is that once I drop a good bit of weight, I can get back on a horse again…maybe there’s a Canter cutie for me someplace down the road. In the meantime, I live vicariously through you all.

Need a new huntseat coat. Wear about 4 times a year so not going to expend large sums of $$. Deciding between DevonAire and Wellington. Any comments about fit, quality, etc.

I will measure and PM you tonight. I didn’t have internet yesterday.

SmartSlims question

So, just tried mine on last night. I’m not sure I got the right size.

I ordered what I thought they should be, but honestly, they don’t feel slimming. Maybe I need to go down one more?

For everyone out there, how’d you pick your size & did the fit match w/ your expectations? If not, did you exchange for a smaller size & then felt the “wow”?

Wow, thanks for that link. I never could find a show shirt in my size in the tack stores around here, but they seem to have them (and on sale!)

I second this. I got a beautiful coat for under $30(!!!) there last year.
