Word to the Wise: Lesson Reminder for Everyone
I’m at the World Cup and had NO clue what was going on meeting COTH people here. THIS thread came up. I’m sitting here with the “accused” and her family discussing this right now. OMG. EVERY person I’ve talked to on this knows about this thread.

Funny. Glad pony didn’t go.

By the way, we’re going out to eat now. :)
have a good dinner… better be getting burritos… and don’t forget the GUAC!!!
p.s btdt, us cothvolk, you cannot leave us hanging!
BeenThereDoneThat, for the love of all that is holy don’t have the burritos!
Yeah! Stick with the Pferde!

I said:

Qdoba.

That’s where I stopped on my way home from the barn today. Though I warn you, the grilled chicken burrito bowl filled me up so much, I had to take a nap and now my uncleaned tack is staring me in the face… :frowning:

Kim
And ybiaw answered:

Day-um! $15,000! Why, my heart-horse Tiki cost 1/3 of that, no lie. $5000, cash on the barrelhead (do people still use that expression?)

I can buy a helluva lot of saddle soap and neatsfoot for even $5000. And imagine all the trips to Qdoba I can take!

OK, I am NOT reading 39 pages of this so I don’t know all of your references! had a GREAT dinner at an OK buffet (Mexican food!) with the “accused” and hubby (who is a pretty great jumper rider) and son, who is WAY too tall for pony.

I don’t know the whole story, but son, who is about my height at 5’8" at 13 cannot ride pony, so mom wanted to give super sound, rideable, safe pony to someone. Hubby and son did NOT want her to give the pony away free. She wanted OP who lived far away to come see it first. She had no clue OP was renting a trailer and coming with husband and three kids. OP shows up. Kids see pony and go sit in car. OP’s daughter supposed to be a rider, but just sits on pony. “Accused” has about $5,000 worth of really nice tack and asks OP about what she has. OP has no tack for pony and is going to make money off of it by using it for pony rides. Hubby of “accused” says, but you need a bridle for pony, and do you have a saddle?

Hubby of OP is saying he does not want pony. Hubby of accused is saying OP is NOT taking free pony when she can’t afford tack, and she is not going to be making money off pony doing pony rides.

Something like that. I’m sure I have some of the facts kind of wrong, but that’s the gist. Accused has a nice, safe, talented, sound pony at her beautiful ranch that is FAR too small for quickly growing son that she needs to SELL with fabulous tack as a bundle.

I tried a tamale. Not so good. The shrimp was pretty good as was the shredded beef and tilapia. There was no guac, and the salsa was way too spicy for my weenie tastebuds.

The accused and I will meet up and watch dressage tomorrow.

damn.

:eek: She was going to make money by using pony for pony rides??

She sure left that out of her posts.

Right??? I know there are ponies out there that have to “sing for their supper” so to speak, but I’d be loath to pass on into that situation.

Oh snap, this got real!! #teamponyowner

I had things I had to do tonight. Including sleeping. Which I will now be able to do, having finished all 37 pages of this thread. I am glad I held on till the end though. Like finding the cheese at the end of the maze!

Well, better turn off the lights. I expect there will be 40 more pages by the time I wake up in the morning. Guten nacht. (which auto correct made into “gluten nacho” – mmmmm nachos)

#teamponyowner

That did NOT end the way I expected! Now all this thread needs is for the OP to come back and explain the pony ride thing. And I can die a happy girl.

No kidding! Pony rides?! I’m so glad I kept coming back to this thread. Surreal and hilarious and then surreal again.

I feel like we’ve found the fruitbat.

While this sounds like the most logical answer to the entire mystery, unless emails have been altered, the accused did answer back and did know OP was arriving. She was welcoming and stated she looked forward to the visit.

All I will say, the PO has treated all here like she did the OP, knowing how this was going, wishy-washy not saying no to the OP to come 7 hours with borrowed trailer etc., for us here, letting this go for pages without a peep and then sending someone else to bat with her story.

How about standing up for ourselves and our horses without letting drama take over?

I wonder, we heard parts of one side, now parts of another, where the real story is?

I agree with whoever guessed, maybe another 40 pages down the road?

catnip, no, she wanted the OP to come visit, but had no idea, says BTDT, that the OP was renting a trailer and bringing the whole kit and caboodle and three kids with her.

I can see that. Surprised at what showed up on her doorstep. And I am not surprised that the OP’s hubby was NOT on board with this scheme. I think the details here pretty much all fit what we were seeing. And boy, howdy! Did the OP ever read her own version of things into events. It pretty bold, to post it in a negative way here. And, congrats to PO for keeping out of it. Hah! Very satisfying

As entertaining as this has all been to read – and it has made me smile during what has been a totally shit week – one thing bugs me. Why would anyone expect you to already have a saddle for a horse you don’t own? Beentheredonethat has written, “OP has no tack for pony…” Is that a thing? I totally understand the PO not sending her pony away to the potential new owner for other reasons, like the whole pony rides issue (weird!), or worried it wasn’t the right fit for the new family, or the husband wasn’t on board, or whatever, but that reason seems strange. I’ve only bought tack for a horse after buying the horse so I can be sure I have tack which fits that animal. I’ve never looked at a potential purchase saying, “I’ve already got a saddle and bridle and everything for her,” and I would wonder about anyone who did.

Gotcha! Thanks for fitting that piece of the puzzle in.
In my mind, I envision the Beverly Hillbillies arriving with OP rocking Granny’s chair. And the theme song from Deliverance faintly playing in the background. But that’s just me.

Yeah, I agree. Seems like there are a dozen very good reasons to put the kibosh on this particular adopter without dragging the tack into it.

Perhaps the PO’s spokesperson brings it up just because the OP herself made such a big deal of it?

Holy burrito in a bustier! Maybe this thread had even longer legs than we thought.

Still on “Je suis pony owner” team.

I’ve bought tack from the sellers when I bought the horses, and I’ve bought tack before I bought horses. Depended on the situation. My first horse when I was 10 yrs old came with the saddle and bridle. All picked out by my horse expert uncle. Second horse came even without halter, so I had to go out and buy everything with my allowance. Bought tack before I bought horses 3 and 4. Bought tack before I bought horses 5 and 6. And of course bought lots of tack after I bought the horses. 7th horse came without tack but I had lots of left over tack.

Funniest was when I bought a lot of “warmblood size”" tack before buying my first WB. Uh uh, his head, while convex, is same size as was that of my TB mare. So I gave all the oversized tack to a friend who had drafts. So some of us do buy tack ahead of time. And after. And at the time of purchase. I do not see anything odd about PO offering to sell tack to someone who owns no tack that fits that pony. Make that someone who owns no tack period.

And I do not think it is odd at all that PO did not come onto this thread to have every word she posted dissected by the posters. I kept quiet for a year about one Cother because she was Coth’s favorite rescue. When I finally alluded to her yearly attempt to, well never mind what, I did not set out all the facts I knew because I wanted others to find out for themselves. And I still got pounded for a year. Until she tried it again. And Thomas1 and others caught her. So PO was very smart to stay off of this thread.
