Not sure which team to join, I’m pretty sure both parties made mistakes here.
Not the first time PO has been dishonest about a sale from what I’ve heard.

But this wasn’t a sale - it was a free lease.
How the PO was behaved when selling is not really relevant here.
The PO was under no obligation to let the pony go. I don’t know who the PO is and don’t want to find out, but even before her part of the story surfaced second hand, I totally got the picture of an over-enthusiastic newbie owner showing up to try the pony with kids and trailer in tow, and the PO getting very cold feet after she meet them in person.
If the OP had showed up at my farm to try my saintly beloved pony in the way described in this thread, I might have come up with a different way to say “No way, this is not a fit or a good situation, not what I wanted for the pony.” but at some point I would have just wanted to get them gone.
The pony ride thing would have put me completely over the top and had me reaching for the phone to have them escorted off the property.
Unless the emails posted by the OP were altered, the PO was informed (and agreed to) the OP bringing a rented trailer, and her brood, with her.

Hi! We hope you had a wonderful Easter! I want to give you an update: We reserved the trailer and paid for two days so we could take our time in coming down and going back. Had the truck and trailer inspected by the mechanic to make sure everything is good to make the trip and we are cleared to go. I figured we would be, but I prefer to be safe than sorry, lol. We got her stall ready, bought extras of everything from minerals and carrots to ground flax and Triple Crown and have decided which pasture she will do the best in. My husband is working on getting time off so he can come down with us and as soon as I have the days, I will let you know. He knows it has to be this week and within a day or two. (Her request) So, everything is coming together and we are super excited. I showed my husband her videos today and my daughter was very excited telling him that (Pony name) is her pony and she is going to get to ride her and brush her and take care of her. When you meet her you will see how cute this is. Thank you very much for everything. I really hope you still like us when we get there (joking given the amount of time we communicated and how much she said we were perfect for the pony and just what she wanted for her) because everyone is on board and I don’t think I would be able to get my husband to again! This opportunity is amazing and I can’t tell you how much it is appreciated by all of us. Thank You
Her
sounds good looking forward to meet you all!!
Still doesn’t make the PO evil for checking the brood and the rented trailer (Let’s talk about that for a minute - the trailer was likely being pulled by the family SUV. Was it hooked up correctly and safely? Does the OP have any previous hauling experience? Probably not. Would you have put an animal of yours in a questionable conveyance with an inexperienced driver for a 7 hour haul? I wouldn’t) and deciding she didn’t want the pony to go with them.
Could she have handled it better? Sure. But she was offering a really nice pony as a free lease to a good home. Hard to ascribe evil intent there.
And if this was really a contest about who was the bigger jerk in this unfortunate situation, and both parties were tied, the tie-breaker would be the first person to post a thinly disgusised cautionary tale on COTH.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
The PO DID NOT start a thread on this forum titled Reminder Warning: Potential leasees may be unsuitable fruitbats.
Case closed.
Regardless of who is most at fault in this situation, it’s still the OP who posted a thinly veiled “payback” thread. #teamponyowner

Yes -someone is fudging the facts - because that would have been the time to say- wait a minute…this is not a done deal - we have to approve you first.
Staying out of the thread is one thing. Sort of pretending to stay out but really playing whisper down the lane and have someone else post for you is another. Either come post or don’t, but enough with additional layers of hearsay!
I think the real lesson here is before you do business read the other posts the person you are dealing with has put up. I read through Amiblue’s Rescue TB saga. Saving pennies to get the vet out for a horse with supposedly rain rot, neck worms other worms, ulcers, low weight, and lice? I don’t think I’ve ever owned a horse that I hated enough to put it in that kind of situation.
If the woman and her family presented as her posts did I can see the reluctance to let the pony go. I don’t know about the PO but I think the pony itself really dodged a bullet.
Either way, even if the PO had point blank told the OP not to bring a trailer, do you honestly think the OP would have listened?

No way of knowing this really.
The whole situation was a communication nightmare.
Everyone have a beer on me today.

My humble opinion of the OP is, a newbie with those mistakes newbie make around horses and acquiring and caring for them.
The PO?
Experience around horses, don’t know why it handled this situation with this newbie as it did, or the subsequent drama here?
I am sure there are good answers, easy to look back and wonder what at that time made sense, so who knows, but about now it is time to let sleeping dogs alone, I would think and OP seems to be there.
PO is now bringing help to the drama thru the back door, another puzzler.
We know puzzling is what people, especially horse people and COTH, tend to be, now for 40 pages worth of puzzling.
I saw blueberry today behind the scenes and I think he is a lovely horse.
Doesn’t leading one’s own children around on a pony since they are little equal a pony ride?
I am confused why the term pony ride automatically is negative.
Did the OP specifically say they are going to sell pony rides or was the term assumed to be something it might not have been?
I do agree that the OP is a newbie and the PO experienced and that does put some weight on the PO for being clear and such.
PonyOwner - is it code? I can’t figure out the blueberry angle.

Frostbitten, blueberry is the call name of one of the BN horses in Vegas. I can’t remember exactly which one…Valegro? I saw him on facebook. Adorable.

Blueberry is Valegro’s barn name.
I feel very bad for the OP in a way because I don’t think I was firm enough before she drove down. I should have told her to come by herself with one child. Instead I wasn’t strong enough. I have made many mistakes. Sometimes I get very uptight and it shows and I do things I should not do. BTDT is trying to make me sound like a saint, but I am not. That is why I changed the information in my profile.
Meanwhile I am trying to decide whether to root for Valegro as my favorite or go with a new one.
There are so many places to eat in Vegas. For anyone else who is there and has not met me yet, I highly recommend Viva Zapata’s. It is a bit of a drive from the strip but it well worth it. The food is very reasonably priced and the tortillas are very good. You can watch them being made fresh right next to the dining area.
Anything on the menu is good. They open early so you can get lunch today and still get back in time to watch the dressage.
Edited to add: they are open at 10am today.
