This is the thing that gets me. It’s not like you all are talking about an actual SALE here, where a potential BUYER might have a legitimate reason to gripe about the time and trouble she’d wasted.
Sheesh!
I adopted a mini from the local rescue last year, and not only did I supply vet and farrier references and schedule a farm visit, but I offered to make a cash donation of whatever size the nice folks thought suitable, and tossed in a donation of grain, fencing supplies and horse clothing to boot. (This happened to be what was needed at the time.) I’d never in a million years expect somebody - even a very overcrowded rescue eager to get rid of excess horses - to simply give me an animal without question, and without offering some kind of token exchange, even if only to show appreciation and good will.
If I was dealing with an individual rather than a rescue, I’d bring a token gift - a bottle of wine or some such thing - just for the kindness of considering me, and then buy the damn saddle and STFU about it if the owner actually decided in my favor.
So, no: I don’t understand the OP’s bizarre sense of entitlement, or her supporters’ apparent feeling that she was somehow cheated here.
I mean seriously - nobody owes anybody else a free horse. I don’t care if the OP drove for 5 days through the Badlands without water. Behaving rashly was entirely her own choice, and nobody owes her just because she decided to do something stupid.
All of this German is making me crave a spetzi and a GeumseMac from a German McDonalds. I miss spetzi terribly. I’ve tried making it myself but it never tastes the same.

I think the real lesson here is before you do business read the other posts the person you are dealing with has put up. I read through Amiblue’s Rescue TB saga. Saving pennies to get the vet out for a horse with supposedly rain rot, neck worms other worms, ulcers, low weight, and lice? I don’t think I’ve ever owned a horse that I hated enough to put it in that kind of situation.
If the woman and her family presented as her posts did I can see the reluctance to let the pony go. I don’t know about the PO but I think the pony itself really dodged a bullet.
I have to agree. I read the TB rescue thread as well. It went from her BO being great and trying to help her put weight on the horse to suddenly she’s looking at other barns. When you post a knowledge deficit about basic ways to put weight on a horse, as well as not having a clue about the expected timeframe for putting that weight on, you’re probably not going to have a knowledgeable horseperson giving you a pony.
So OP was going to make money off of giving pony rides on the pony? How was she to do this, without any tack? Good for PO’s hubby for shutting that down!
Also, whoever called the hubby not being on board with this was SPOT ON! I’ve read other posts of OP’s and it seems she is SUPER enthusiastic about horses, but that hubby (the sole breadwinner) is not at all. Anyone who needs to save their pennies to deal with worms/ulcers/lice/underweight horse do NOT need a second horse. No matter how adorable the pony.
I do wonder if the rescue mare has been seen by the vet, or did part of the penny-saving fund go to 4.5 tanks of gas/trailer rental/mechanic checkup? If it did, OP-please take care of the one horse you DO have.
So she is stating that the OP lied and those e-mails are not what was exchanged?
I would bet money on the fact that this is a miscommunication between OP, who is clear a couple of her kids will only be leadline-ing, and the POFamily who are not native English speakers, who appear to not want to give away their pony, which PO clearly didn’t consider or share with the OP even though PO offered the pony to OP of her own volition and in spite of the fact that she didn’t know OP, afterall… so many are citing threads by OP that lead to questions about her suitability… therefore, to me, the onus for this going sideways rests on the PO who could have asked for references, read some of the OPs threads, or otherwise tried to take some measures to insure that the pony she was giving away was going to a place she [and her family] felt was suitable.
That’s on the PO, completely.
You don’t NEED anything other than a halter to take a new horse home… and there are these places called tack shops where you can get said items that you need to ride that animal once you get it home.
Or are we to believe that OP is such a newbie horse owner she doesn’t know to ride horses you need tack?
Sounds more like ‘we NEED to get some $$ for this pony what can we insist she has to buy to take home the pony my wife already offered her for free?’ to me.
Clearly POHusband misunderstood the whole ‘pony ride’ thing… but at least he’s not in a job where understanding thoroughly what is being discused is critical to success. DOH!
Ah, and at least now we know that the POHusband is the one who rules the roost. Too bad OP didn’t know that before she was approached by and made a deal with the PO.
Well, at least PO now has her parameters laid out by her POHusband/boss as to what she can do with this pony. Always good to know the rules before you offer ‘things’ to others.

Not the first time PO has been dishonest about a sale from what I’ve heard.

She had no clue OP was renting a trailer and coming with husband and three kids.

All I will say, the PO has treated all here like she did the OP, knowing how this was going, wishy-washy not saying no to the OP to come 7 hours with borrowed trailer etc., for us here, letting this go for pages without a peep and then sending someone else to bat with her story.
How about standing up for ourselves and our horses without letting drama take over?
I wonder, we heard parts of one side, now parts of another, where the real story is?
I agree with whoever guessed, maybe another 40 pages down the road?
I have to agree, especially given the “had no clue about trailer and kids and hubby.” PTDT, is PO claiming that the messages/emails the OP posted in her very first post are an outright fabrication? Because those pretty clearly talk about both the trailer and the kids/hubby.

Let the record show that a large percentage of responses are just nonsensical banter, and not really thread related ;)
Well, that is is the Hallmark of a good trainwreck! (and bookmarked as such for future reference)
We are lacking stick art and the drunk house guest, don’t we?
Here’s the thing, why wouldn’t someone take the truck and trailer down? I mean, they were 7 or so hours away - if it were a good fit, yay the trailer is already there. If not, bummer and have to drive it home. According to the OP, on one of the posts, the PO supposedly refused to let the pony be shipped with a commercial shipper - the PO supposedly “demanded” the OP trailer the pony personally.
So much here doesn’t make any sense. Not that we are owed anything, but the thin “explanation” from the PO (by someone supposedly with the PO) is ridiculous.
In other news, I had Chipotle yesterday. I had been intensely craving it as of late, and wasn’t quite sure why. Then I opened COTH and read the 8+ pages that popped onto this thread while I was at lunch…now I know why. No guac for me, though!

We got better than that, PO is using a legit COTHer as proxy.
At this point, is there even anyone left who doesn’t know who PO is? I mean, I’ve read OP’s older threads and they were , esp the rescue Tb thread. But some of PO’s induce a similar reaction, if milder (not to do with horse health, but also weird).
