So is this person posting as PonyOwner an alter for the actual PO referred to in the thread? #colormeconfused
You are not alone there, more questions all around than answers.
Since everyone is giving all kinds of opinions, I will say, burritos are best with guac on the side, not in the burrito.
The way I read it was- OP wanted to send down a commercial shipper to pick up pony for 30 day trial- which means PO would have never met her/vetted their (kids and parents) suitability for the pony. Good call on PO’s part on that one!
If I was the PO in this situation, it wouldn’t matter if they wanted the saddle or not- the OPhubby who “doesn’t want” my free pony? Ya, the saintly pony who carted around my (hypothetical) child isn’t going anywhere they’re not wanted- especially if money for the horse they already own is tight.
Also, you guys know that if you get a veggie bowl/burrito at Chiptole, the guac is free right??
We got better than that, PO is using a legit COTHer as proxy.
At this point, is there even anyone left who doesn’t know who PO is? I mean, I’ve read OP’s older threads and they were , esp the rescue Tb thread. But some of PO’s induce a similar reaction, if milder (not to do with horse health, but also weird).
I don’t know, but I haven’t actually made the effort to go and look. Keeping up with this thread is effort enough!
Okay, so I’ve been away from this thread for a couple of days.
Apparently I missed:

guacamole, apparently.
The more I think about this thread, the more my head spins!
To the OP- horses are ridiculously expensive. There really is no way around that fact, especially if you end up with a veterinary emergency. If you have horses, you will have veterinary emergencies. It is a given.
I was wondering if instead of a rescue horse and a pony, could you sell/re home the rescue once she is fully rehabbed? Maybe get a smaller horse that everyone could ride and enjoy? Your special needs child is already getting hippotherapy. Are you able to allow him to ride only under your supervision? Maybe he is not at the point yet where he would be able to ride without a PT there as well.
Your other two children are very young. I think their level of involvement would be the same whether it was their own pony or a shared horse. It is a very good thing to teach children to share. If they prove that their interest isn’t a fleeting thing, then consider their own equine years down the road. I didn’t get my first pony until I was 10, and by then I could do all the work myself.
Personally, the idea of keeping a horse forever is a noble one, but not always practical. It is not a bad thing to sell or re home a horse if a more suitable life for the animal is available. I remember being asked “what makes you think that you are the only one who could give your horse a great home?”. After my initial shock, I realized this person was right. There are lots of people who could take wonderful care of a horse that I had previously owned. In some causes, I think my horse may be happier with them. Don’t let the idea of a “forever home” cloud your judgement. I’d rather have fewer horses and be able to do everything for them that they need.
I hope this helps. We all get excited about horses, but I think maybe it would be a good thing to sit back and really think about everything a second equine would entail as far as time, money and energy. There are plenty of ways for you and your children to be involved with horses without having to own their own pony.
Good luck.

… unless I am the one who is confused… no ‘PonyOwner’ is not an alter and is not the real/actual PO.
I feel very bad for the OP in a way because I don’t think I was firm enough before she drove down. I should have told her to come by herself with one child. Instead I wasn’t strong enough. I have made many mistakes. Sometimes I get very uptight and it shows and I do things I should not do. BTDT is trying to make me sound like a saint, but I am not. That is why I changed the information in my profile.
She’s not the PO? What the heck is she talking about then? Are we still in Kansas?

And why did reading this thread REALLY make me want the pony in question?

Is this some sort of bizarro world marketing scheme?
I want it too! And I’m taller than the son!! And have zero need for a pony other than something to groom/graze/pamper:D
Me, too! But for us, teach her to DRIVE and everyone can enjoy her!!!
No Chipolte for me- Fuzzy’s Taco Shop!! (The fact that my friend owns several helps, too!)
What are everyone’s favorite breed of pony and why?
ps. Viva Zapata’s opens in 1 hour and 15 minutes.

TB rocks, no Pony Owner is not the PO. It confuses me. What the Kansas, indeed. I don’t get it. She’s posted bizzared poorly translated french blurb and there’s not alot of sense to any of it, yet she calls herself Pony Owner. Not the PO. Not related in any way to this situation, but there she is. Quasi troll, I guess, just to confuse things.

Uh goofing around I guess?
And having now searched and read some of the real POs own posts I can now see that those who were claiming that the OP doesn’t read what is written, and misses the point really hit on the crux of the matter… cause the PO seems to equally not ‘get it’ even when ‘it’ is repeatedly explained to her = Perfect storm.

This thread is giving me " Yo - Yo Anxiety" = I need donuts NOW !
This thread is giving me [B]“YO - YO Anxiety”
I need donuts  NOW !!!
This thread needs to go away… PonyOwner is posting like she is the owner (but isnt’???) then posting someting about Vegas and the World Cup and when restraunts open that really don’t realte to anything. Does she want to have a COTH get together in Vegas?
Weirdness all around.
RE: The saddle thing and actually, everything:
What we’re missing here is ACTUAL CONTEXT, people. We have several snippits of conversation from OP. We don’t have, according to OP, a month’s worth of conversations prior to these snippits.
We also don’t have any of the actual conversation that happened while OP was at PO’s farm.
Regardless of what was said in the snippits we saw, or what was said in the online/text/phone conversations, we don’t know what words actually came out of OP’s mouth when she was there. We also don’t know the vibe PO got from OP when she actually showed. Who knows, maybe kids showed up in literal rags and the truck was on its last leg and PO didn’t feel safe letting pony go.
Also, who cares if she didn’t tell PO that hubby & son didn’t want her to give pony away? If she’s the executive decision maker in the house, she probably said, “get over it boys, it’s happening. Some other kid is going to get the privilege of enjoying pony.” And so hubby & son said, okay let them come meet pony.
And also, it sounds like the tack became an issue not because OP didn’t have tack for pony already, but because OP and POHubby got to talking about it, and somewhere in this entire interaction, POHubby and PO were getting the idea that the money to care for Pony, Rescue Mare, Kit & Caboodle was not necessarily there. On top of that, OPHubby wasn’t fully on-board. That’s their prerogative!!
Who cares? There’s so much to speculate on, it’s pointless. Either way, as people have said many times before, OP has demonstrated a total lack of ability to read for comprehension. My guess is that what was said (in-person) and what she heard were not quite the same.
Said: “What is your plan to get tack for the pony? We have nice-fitting, high quality tack that we’d like to sell with the pony.”
Heard: “YOU MUST BUY THE TACK TO TAKE OUR PONY HOME.”
All hypothetical, of course, and not said to assume anything that could not be known. My point is, I guess, who cares?
I’m off to get that burrito now, thankgodinheaven.
