wait are you the open trailer or the trailer for the movie of the weak.
Perhaps I WAS open but no longer. The wheels came of this thread long ago. No matter which route you take, the direction seems lost.

The more I think about this thread, the more my head spins!
To the OP- horses are ridiculously expensive. There really is no way around that fact, especially if you end up with a veterinary emergency. If you have horses, you will have veterinary emergencies. It is a given.
I was wondering if instead of a rescue horse and a pony, could you sell/re home the rescue once she is fully rehabbed? Maybe get a smaller horse that everyone could ride and enjoy? Your special needs child is already getting hippotherapy. Are you able to allow him to ride only under your supervision? Maybe he is not at the point yet where he would be able to ride without a PT there as well.
Your other two children are very young. I think their level of involvement would be the same whether it was their own pony or a shared horse. It is a very good thing to teach children to share. If they prove that their interest isn’t a fleeting thing, then consider their own equine years down the road. I didn’t get my first pony until I was 10, and by then I could do all the work myself.
Personally, the idea of keeping a horse forever is a noble one, but not always practical. It is not a bad thing to sell or re home a horse if a more suitable life for the animal is available. I remember being asked “what makes you think that you are the only one who could give your horse a great home?”. After my initial shock, I realized this person was right. There are lots of people who could take wonderful care of a horse that I had previously owned. In some causes, I think my horse may be happier with them. Don’t let the idea of a “forever home” cloud your judgement. I’d rather have fewer horses and be able to do everything for them that they need.
I hope this helps. We all get excited about horses, but I think maybe it would be a good thing to sit back and really think about everything a second equine would entail as far as time, money and energy. There are plenty of ways for you and your children to be involved with horses without having to own their own pony.
Good luck.
Hmmm, I think this post is entirely too practical, thoughtful, compassionate, and tactfully-worded for this thread. You are entirely missing the point that guacamole is truly better on the side, with nothing more than a crisp tortilla chip, or at most, a chip with a little melted cheese.

Also, I’m probably the only one left on the board who doesn’t know who the PO is right? Help me out here?
No your not . After slogging through 33 pages I can honestly say I only want to know who it is so I can avoid her like the plague if I am ever in the market for a free lease pony.
Surely you can find enough sequins in Vegas to spell it out…

You know, I recently discovered putting guacamole ON a BLT.
It’s AMAZING.

What is this guacamole you all are talking about? Is it good on hay? I like hay.
I swear I cheered out loud when I saw this post

There’s your mistake. No point looking for direction here.

You shouldn’t be so closed minded. Nothing will ever get in that way. Then what is your point?

OK, I am NOT reading 39 pages of this so I don’t know all of your references! had a GREAT dinner at an OK buffet (Mexican food!) with the “accused” and hubby (who is a pretty great jumper rider) and son, who is WAY too tall for pony.
I don’t know the whole story, but son, who is about my height at 5’8" at 13 cannot ride pony, so mom wanted to give super sound, rideable, safe pony to someone. Hubby and son did NOT want her to give the pony away free. She wanted OP who lived far away to come see it first. She had no clue OP was renting a trailer and coming with husband and three kids. OP shows up. Kids see pony and go sit in car. OP’s daughter supposed to be a rider, but just sits on pony. “Accused” has about $5,000 worth of really nice tack and asks OP about what she has. OP has no tack for pony and is going to make money off of it by using it for pony rides. Hubby of “accused” says, but you need a bridle for pony, and do you have a saddle?
Hubby of OP is saying he does not want pony. Hubby of accused is saying OP is NOT taking free pony when she can’t afford tack, and she is not going to be making money off pony doing pony rides.
Something like that. I’m sure I have some of the facts kind of wrong, but that’s the gist. Accused has a nice, safe, talented, sound pony at her beautiful ranch that is FAR too small for quickly growing son that she needs to SELL with fabulous tack as a bundle.
I tried a tamale. Not so good. The shrimp was pretty good as was the shredded beef and tilapia. There was no guac, and the salsa was way too spicy for my weenie tastebuds.
The accused and I will meet up and watch dressage tomorrow. :)
This sheds a different light on it, but I would still look elsewhere for a pony. I think they should just keep the pony, because I don’t think anyone else is good enough to have it.
downen, there is room in my barn for the fabulous Flame anytime! He does have lovely teeth. And he rocks the beard scruff very nicely.

Are you my trailer or the OP’s trailer? If you are my trailer, you are not for hire, as per my insurance rules and regulations.
If you are the OP’s trailer, we are going to sell shares in you. How many 1/3 rd’s can we sell?
Trailer, yes, things falling out would be a big hitch in your plans.
The wheels are really falling off on this thread.

Well, that depends. How are we defining “open”?
How can I define “open”? I’m still trying to figure out which wheel is squeaking?

Ok, I’m not PO and I don’t play PO on TV but… I have made it through 52 pages and feel compelled to stick up for PO just a little bit.
In the OPs very first post, she texted that she can’t wait to meet PO and hopes PO won’t find her and her kids ‘too crazy’ in light of their having survived many hours travelling cooped up in the car to meet the pony and PO - Sorry OP, but I’d take that as a sign that you and your kids are coming up to meet me and my pony to see if you’re a good fit and draft up the contract after meeting us for the first time
In the follow up texts, she mentions that she has ‘booked’ the truck and trailer - and again - if I was PO, I’d be assuming at that point that this means that after the initial visit (when OP and children were apparently coming up in the car), if everything works out then the OP would come up within a few days of the initial face to face meeting with her husband, rented truck, and trailer to pick up the pony once the contract was signed etc.
I’m afraid (well no, not afraid really) that I’m on the train that includes those who saw a lack of commitment from the PO in her responses; I didn’t see anything that suggested to me that PO was promising to give her pony to the OP until after the proposed face to face meeting (after all, PO did not agree to a hauler coming for pony, rather insisting that OP drive up and meet them all first) - and we all know (sort of) how that ended!

Sigh.
Another well-reasoned and on-topic post.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? Have you missed the spirit of the ridiculous which is this thread?
