World Cup 2017 in Omaha

Just took a quick look and there’s a couple places close by on VRBO for decent prices if you the guests. Looks like one is $210/night, 2 bedrooms, and a couch that could sleep people.

Don’t forget to plan a side trip to Dehner’s while you are in Omaha ! I visited the orphan room and picked up a pair of paddock boots and a pair of tall boots for 50% off and got measured. I am considering going just so I can see dressage and stop at Dehners !

Dehner’s is definitely on my list! I already mapped it – it’s just a few miles from where we’ll be staying:).

Finally got my tickets, so excited!

I’m praying for good weather. It could be the difference between a good trip and an amazing trip. If the weather holds out I am making time to visit the Omaha Zoo.

Also, CenturyLink is just north of the Old Market area. It looks like a place perfect for walking, with lots of shopping, restaurants and bars.

There will be drunken dressage divas everywhere. Send prayers to the residents of Omaha!

TM, I was also told the Zoo is worth the trip, so that’s on my to-do list as well. One of our group goes to Omaha on business and she said that the Old Market area is very walkable.

We’ve already purchased our air tickets, so that’s done; it’s nice to be able to spread the cost of attending out by buying event tickets and flights so far in advance – allows more $$ for shopping once on-site:D.

When/where can you find out who is competing?

TIA

The last qualifiers for both the North American League and for the Western European League are on 3/12/17 ( in Burbank CA, and s’Hertogenbosch Netherlands). So, I am sure the news will be all over facebook, on the COTH news, Dressage Today, World Dressage News, Horse and Hound, and various other horse websites then. The official FEI site also has schedules, point standings, etc that you can follow through the qualifying season, (which is just now getting under way): http://inside.fei.org/fei/events/world-cups/dressage/current-season

If you are interested in watching the qualifiers, COTH has typically had a free website with video from the Florida qualifiers (Jan and Feb), the Burbank CA qualifier had video available on their own sites last year, and most of the European qualifiers have video on FEI TV (which you can subscribe to for a small fee). There is a new qualifier in Vegas this Jan., and no-one knows yet whether they will make video available, but if you check this list, I am sure someone will be talking about it by that time.

Has anyone booked their hotel through the special hotel website linked through the World Cup event page (says Visit Omaha at the top)? Will it let you use loyalty points like Hilton HHonors to book or do you have to pay full price?

We booked our hotel through the link. Did not use points to reserve (no deposit payment was required to reserve a room, either).

The Visit Omaha staffer told me that they had contracted for the best hotel room deals (see my earlier post on page 1), but we were personally going for close to the venue, not looking to use reward points.

Going with friends. We’ve been to all the World Cups in Vegas. I’m disappointed it’s not in Vegas again – how do you beat Vegas??? But, I’ve never been to Omaha and we’ve had a blast watching the dressage and jumping before, and we’ve heard good things about Omaha, so I’m sure we’ll have a great time. Thanks to the previous poster who reminded me of Dehners. Completely forgot they’re there!

For our group, this means our flights will no longer get us into Omaha in time for the Dressage Warm-Up:mad:, even though we are leaving home in the wee hours. Plus, we’re already booked into an (expensive) hotel that night, when the changed schedule means that the first event we’ll be able to attend isn’t until the following afternoon. Afraid to make any hotel reservation or flight changes (if even possible), in case some other major schedule adjustment occurs.

I realize that the schedule is not set in stone, until it is, but it’s still a major disappointment. The other event starting times don’t matter so much, as we will already be there in Omaha, within walking distance of the venue.

For work and budget reasons, we just figured we won’t be going to the warm up event. I really enjoyed it in Vegas, and highly recommend anyone able to go, do so. Heck, we may even be able to help get anyone who doesn’t have them tickets (I think we have the package so tickets for all events.) But I think it was also a morning event in Vegas, so would have required earlier travel, too. It’s too bad, but darned responsibilities in adult life plus budget restrictions!

I just changed our hotel reservations to Tuesday, and we have not yet bought plane tix, so all is good.

Heard that the warm up will be visible to spectators with lots of shopping! Thomas and Mack was really too crowded in the vendor area. I don’t like Vegas hotels with no coffee in the room, smoky, noisy casinos. Omaha will be a refreshing change!

From the original post: He also said that the vendors will be in the Exhibition Hall (also attached to the arena), not on the Concourse; that there will be a 20,000 s.f. restaurant there, as well - along with a stage and the Warm-up Arena - so that patrons can sit, eat, drink, and watch the warm-ups.

That will make it much more interesting than the World Cup in Vegas!

Netg, we weren’t able to attend a couple of the Dressage Warm-ups in Las Vegas, either, but it was very nice to be able to do so in 2015. I noticed that the official OWC website is calling this event “Dressage Familiarization:).”

Lorilu, we were able to change our hotel reservations through Visit Omaha (where we originally made them) as well. It’s one more night there but, oh well, in for a penny/in for a pound is what we all agreed. We changed our incoming flight, too, of course; one silver lining in this is that we will no longer have to travel pre-crack of dawn to get to Omaha:).

So, it is working out, except for the additional expense and the inconvenience of being away from home for longer than originally planned.

AZ TD, I’m also not a fan of smoke nor casinos, which is why we always stayed in an off-strip casino-less hotel in Las Vegas, within easy walking distance of the Thomas & Mack. Definitely looking forward to the vendors in Omaha!

I just got session tickets for myself and 2 barn friends! We decided to go for the half price single session jumping as well on Friday night, just to mix it up. We’re all so excited. Maybe we’ll get to meet up with some of you who are going!

We went a little on the pricier side for the hotel, but it guaranteed each of us has our own bed. Its easily within walking distance. Now I just hope its not too cold!

Five, possibly six, of us are going together. We booked hotel through the site–ours is about a five or six block walk, but the hotel also has a shuttle. We are sitting within rows of friends who booked when tickets first came on sale. Temps could be up to 60 during the day and mid 30s in the evening, so you will need to bring a winter coat.

I am still debating whether or not to head up. I am from Nebraska originally, and could stay with my brother, who lives 45 minutes outside of Omaha or with my mom, 90 minutes away. Both are easy drives -interstate/divided highways both directions.
I’m desperately trying to not spend money this year, so I may just hope that there is a live feed and live vicariously.

We have our tickets as well! We won’t be making it for the warm-up either…with work and the drive, it’s not going to be possible…we do have our hotel reservations in Council Bluff…it’s not a bad drive and much less expensive than what we could find in Omaha.

So excited!!! I can hardly wait!

Has anyone received their actual tickets yet…I was wondering when they will be mailed out.

I’d have to check my notes, but I think the tickets are mailed something like a month in advance.
