World Cup 2017 in Omaha
I am still debating whether or not to head up. I am from Nebraska originally, and could stay with my brother, who lives 45 minutes outside of Omaha or with my mom, 90 minutes away. Both are easy drives -interstate/divided highways both directions.
I’m desperately trying to not spend money this year, so I may just hope that there is a live feed and live vicariously.
Oh, you should go! It is not often we have something of this caliber in Region 4. I am driving up from SW MO Wednesday. I wonder how long the “warm up” will last? Maybe into the late afternoon/early evening? Might still get so see some riders I hope!

A New Zealand dressage rider has qualified and has booked flights for her horse, I’m SO excited!!!

Seriously thinking about selling my grandma to finance a trip there. Am curious to know what the dressage showcase entails though?

I think it was about 3 hours in Vegas - basically a short time in the ring for each rider, in pairs except for the pairs who chose to split the time and each go in alone.

To answer the question about the showcase - in this case, it’s going to be Isabell Werth demonstrating her expectations and system bringing up a young horse. I would think it would be between 2-3 hours, but am not sure.

I have heard that Isabell Werth will only be presenting for 30 minutes. I wouldn’t count on her to take up the entire showcase time.

Our tickets arrived today! We’re so excited - hard to believe it’s only a month away!

Ours arrived yesterday! We can’t wait!

I got my tickets yesterday too! Also if anyone needs a shopping buddy for Dehners, I volunteer. I won’t have a car, but perhaps we can uber or something…

I already google-mapped Dehner’s:winkgrin:; I’d love to check out their fabled back room. They’re listed as being vendors at the WC, too.

Hey @NJRider ! Seems a fun idea…

Sweet @netg and @Jarpur, sounds like we might need a minivan or something… I’m thinking Friday morning looks slow in terms of the schedule- we can do an event on FB maybe?

I agree! I have the car!

Has anyone received their hotel confirmation yet? I went back and looked at the email from Omaha CVB, which said that I’d get my confirmation from the hotel 30 days out. Its now less than 30 days out and I’m getting a bit anxious that we may not have our hotel.

We hadn’t received our hotel confirmation either, so last week I contacted the Omaha CVB (through which we had booked the hotel). I promptly received an email back that last Friday was the final day our hotel was accepting WC reservations, and we could expect to receive our confirmation number today (Monday) or tomorrow.

Perhaps all the hotels booked through the Visit Omaha website are doing the same.

The Hilton hotel I booked trhough Omada CVB attempted to bump my reservation and move me to a hotel on the other side of downtown. I made the reservation in October and they tried to claim they were overbooked. I don’t doubt they are now overbooked but I am positive they were not overbooked in October.

After a couple very long emails making it clear it was unacceptable, they suddenly had a room available for me and I’ve since received my confirmation.

Jarpur and TM, good to know. If I don’t see anything in the next couple days, I’ll definitely be sending them an email!

Our hotel confirmation just came in:D. What a relief – we’ve had our reservation since the beginning of last July.

My ticket booklets came in the mail last week. I’m staying at a hotel near the airport, but I think I’ll call and confirm just to be sure. This will be my first WC. Very exciting!

Murphy’s law…when you decide to ask about something, it magically shows up a short time later! My confirmation came in a couple hours ago. Yay!

NJRider, Dressage trax lives down in SW MO. Do you know her IRL? I decided it was so close I had to go and support it. I have relatives in Omaha, and the Old Market is the place to go. It is a small city that always gets high marks for being a good place to visit or live. Do you guys know that Lowell Boomer was from nearby Lincoln. Wasn’t he the founder of the USDF? I rented a room near the zoo, we will have a car, and I want to go to the aviary if not also the zoo.
If my niece can get away from school early, we would like to go up for Friday night jumping.
I was hesitating because I don’t want to spend money this year-wanna go to Tryon next year!! I will look forward to meeting you all.

I avoid these Omaha World Cup 2017 threads because I was raised in Omaha and can’t help but be fiercely protective of my hometown. Yes, Lowell Boomer was the founder of the USDF - used to go to “Boomer’s Barn” for Pony Club ratings in the 80s. As I recall, he was a lovely elderly gentleman. Of course, being a kid, I remember the Coca-Cola dispenser at the barn that spit out small BOTTLES of Coke for some ridiculously low price.

The Old Market is fabulous, for shopping, killing time, grabbing a coffe (or a drink), having a quick family meal or a posh multi-course dining event.

The Zoo should NOT be missed, if at all possible. The Henry Doorly Zoo is often listed in the top 3 in the U.S. I suspect you’ll be surprised at how hard the folks in Omaha will try to make this the best possible experience. I guess we can just apologize, in advance, that we aren’t Las Vegas. Omaha in March wouldn’t have been my pick for time of year, but so far, beyond insanely high winds, the weather in the Big O. has been much better than usual.

I hope all that go do so with an open mind. We’ve hosted a number of U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, U.S. Figure Skating trials, and something like four shows of The International to prepare for the event. Here’s hoping it all comes together to meet everyone’s expectations!
