So very sorry to come here today and read this news. As everyone has already said, you gave it your all. She was indeed lucky to come under your care. Big hugs and much admiration for all you did for Rani.
I had two bracelets and a keychain made from his tail.
I got the mane and tail from my guy that passed away after complications following colic surgery. I had a bracelet made by someone on Etsy. The rest I donated to a friend that restores antique rocking horses, so that he can live on in something beautiful and timeless.
There have been many suggestions for keepsakes over the years.
If you contact āspecial Horsesā on facebook, āTed Wellsā (a former COTHer) can probably put you in touch with an artist.
There are bracelets, pottery (which take only a few strands of hair)
I am adding myself to the chorus expressing my condolences.
Doing right by an animal s sometimes so hard on the soul.
Thank you for taking her on. I, too, wish it had been a more favorable outsome.
Or a delayed one, by many years.
Iāve been meaning to, but havenāt yet. But there are a lot of online artists who will do bracelets or other jewelry.
Thereās also pottery, which is quite beautiful, in which the tail hair is used as part of the glaze/finish. This shop on Etsy has some amazing ones to choose from: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DonovanDesignsArt?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=800911303
Iām so, so sorry to hear about Rani, @ratchet, but what a beautiful story youāve shared You did your best for her and she was so loved and cared for. Hugs to you.
The rocking horse idea is so beautiful. Maybe someone around here does that or something similar.
Thank you everyone.
Sent you a PM
She was an absolutely gorgeous horse. Godspeed Rani
The rocking horse idea is beautiful. My dad used to make wooden rocking horses with yarn manes and tails in various sizes as part of his woodworking hobby. Not hard to do. He mostly stained his but you could paint or stain grey too. If you ask in your community on a facebook page, etc, you could likely find someone to make one for you.
My dad died before my old horse. I didnāt really wear bracelets so I went with horse hair vase with some hair wrapped under the lip and held with a beaded clasp. Nice gentle reminder for me.
Iām so sorry to hear @ratchet but she knew love and I hope that will carry you through your grief; may it be gentle.
(((Hugs)))
Wow, this is so sad. You did the courageous thing, but it still sucks.
Iām pretty sure I saw someone on Facebook who makes small horse figurines with real horse hair manes and tails. I think the figurine could be painted to resemble someoneās horse too.
