Yes, one of THOSE threads... Homozygous black Hano-approved jumper/eventing stallions

Though it really pains me to write this (I am strongly against colour bias), if I want to convince my SO to let me continue breeding, my foals need to sell quicker, thus… Colour becomes a factor.

So, who are the homozygous black Hano-approved jumper/eventing-type stallions?

It seems like the dressage-types are easy to find, but what about the others?

Thank you in advance!

Sea Accounts xx?

Landkoenig is homozygous for black points - can’t produce a chestnut, but you can get a bay or black.

This might free up your choices.

Bay or black doesn’t matter; just not chestnut. :frowning:

Sea Accounts is not homozygous.

San City is though I believe (he has not been tested but hasn’t produced a red head yet even when bred to a chestnut…). Not sure if he will work for your mare otherwise though.

ETA - wanted to clarify (since I went back and re-read what I wrote and it sounded a little “harsh” to me and was NOT my intent). I have a head cold and my filters are all wonky I think LOL

When I say that I’m not sure if San City would work for your mare I mean in terms of what each brings to the table with regards to pedigree, movement, conformation etc. I’m very good friends with his owner and have known Samson since he was a youngster. I tell Katie all the time that he is a SPECTACULAR dressage horse, and he obviously can jump around. He does need a little bit of blood though for eventing etc if you are aiming at upper levels just for speed and stamina. He’s producing leggy, athletic, friendly, beautiful foals who are just now getting started under saddle. Very rideable.

I just discovered San City a couple of months ago and really like the look of him. He doesn’t seem to be too well promoted, which is a shame. Great to see that he is now Hanoverian approved! I wish I had known (at the time) that it was him being presented to the inspectors after the 70 day test or I would have stayed to see him.

I’d definitely put him on my list if I had a more blooded mare but my mares all need blood. I’m feeling very lucky, for that reason, to be able to breed one of my Hanoverian mares to Sea Accounts this year!

Freestyle

Although not known as a jumping/eventing sire he has produced horses that jump and jump well including two sons who have completed the NA 70-day stallion test: Farscape (3rd as a 3-yr old in 2010) and Fabian DSF (last year’s winner). Freestyle himself scored well in the jumping portion of his 100-day test. I believe he was 7th in jumping and the overall winner of his test.

Ya, Katie’s mom gets on to Katie all the time about the promotion thing LOL. And when I say I know them - Katie lives like an hour from me, she has two of my horses currently (one for training and the other she bought to breed to Samson actually). She is super nice and all but marketing is not what she is about  Although she is trying - she has a FB page for Samson and her farm that she tries to update. But she has two very young kids of her own and is busy riding and competing and teaching lessons etc…

LOL! No worries Anissa. I’ll look him up, I didn’t know of him! Is he Hano approved?

He’s one of the few I know of, almost bred to him last year actually! But, she’s in foal to Diamond Stud for 2014.

Freestyle has been at the top of the list for this mare’s filly actually! I might as well just buy shares from Dreamscape. I love her stallions so much in general!

 She does have some very nice boys! I think I talked myself into breeding a mare to Freestyle next year while writing that post.

I have the 2014 yearbook from the Hanoverian Verband and flipped through it but there was nothing that jumped out at me as homozygous black and jumping bred.

Yes, San City is approved as of this year AHS, he also is approved ISR and RPSI. Carolyn Roffman had him for a bit while he did dressage and Katie and Julie Richards both have both evented him through 2*. http://www.sancitystallion.com

Now the kicker will be if she can get fresh to CAN for you… THAT might be an issue (I have no idea). Tate can ship this year easily fresh but he’s not approved AHS, but otherwise ticks all your boxes.

My versatile dressage/hunter mare is in foal to Freestyle. She’s a redhead coming from a family of strong redheads who like to produce redheads, so it is going to be nice getting a bay or black foal from her. I can hardly wait. I’ve been wanting a Freestyle foal for YEARS now.

I know Rosenthal is much more a Hunter and Dressage stallion but does he have any kids going the Eventer route?

If she’s red, then it’s totally up to the stallion to produce red or not, since red is all she has to give

if her parents were red, they could only produce red. If their parents were all red, they could only produce red

Oh man, I’m going to have to stalk you now. I love Freestyle’s kids. When is yours due?
