Yet Another New Horse - It's Peach!

I, too, send condolences about the loss of your dog. Damn, that’s tough.

I’ll tell him that the next time he’s shuffling away from me in the pasture when I go out with the halter :joy: He really does have a sweet face, and you can tell that he was well and professionally handled as a track baby. He generally thinks humans are good and trustworthy, and he’s nonplussed at being put in the barn alone with a hay bag and a fan for the afternoon.

We’ve got an appointment with the vet tomorrow at noon. :crossed_fingers: Hopefully I can keep him semi-clean until then.

Fingers crossed for a productive vet visit!

We had a horse we bought that had several unexplained abscesses.
Took him to the vet, x-rays were showing a crack on the coffin bone front, that the vet was thinking was causing the problems.

Vet said hoof is best cast, no need to add one, confine him to a smaller pen and let it heal for a few more weeks and he should be fine.
He was.

Hoping your horse ends up well soon.

I’m sorry to read about your sidekick dog.

Peach, you and your chestnut feet need to get with the program! Hopefully, between good vet care and good nutrition over time, this problem becomes a thing of his past.

Good luck with the vet appointment, we have one too. I was just out giving him a bath. It’s so dusty here and he’s black so he gets pretty gross when it’s dusty. It doesn’t wipe off!

It’s maybe going to rain tomorrow morning, so I think I am going to keep him in overnight. It certainly can’t be any worse than leaving him out to get covered in mud, and I can always bathe him again since our appointment isn’t until noon.

Also, it’s raining right now (and 90 degrees). :joy: Expecting a thunderstorm in about 15 minutes… better go shut the barn door.

So sorry to read about your pooch. Sending hugs to you all.

Good luck with the Vet!

I’m sorry about you losing your faithful dog. It’s so hard, I know.
Why can’t they live a more human lifespan? It would be so much easier on us.

So sorry to hear about your dog. Its tough when they leave us too soon.

I’m so sorry about your dog @Heinz_57, the hardest part of loving these guys is letting them go.

Sooooo……how was the vet visit?

Just walked in the door. I need to go do some chores so I’ll have to come back later and add more, but…

It’s just an abscess, and it’s still draining. We x-rayed both fronts - something I will be happy to have for my files, once they send them to me.

Other than that… it was a ridiculously expensive appointment (over $600) to learn that yup, that’s an abscess

The peace of mind that it is just an abscess is worth the $600 with how weird it has been behaving.

Beats the heck out of “yup, something’s off in the coffin bone”. That’ll be 3600.

It’s hard sometimes when you haven’t had them long enough to know how much of a chance to take with vet treatment.

You did the right thing.

Oh, I’m not mad about paying for x-rays or the exam fee, I expected those, and that was less than half of the total bill.

Peach was a good traveler and well behaved for the entire appointment.

I’m so glad you did this. I lost a lovely mare because my vet kept dismissing something as a “simple abscess” when it was something way more problematic and not diagnosed as such until too late to save her.

He sounds like… a peach :)!!!

That’s seems pricey, but better a confirmed $600 abscess than a joint infection going septic or something otherwise horrific.

I hope they cleared it out good for that price!
