You might be an equestrian when you, and Granddaughters parents, get called into the ring to hold ponies while kiddos are doing Round the World, and you just can’t resist, but did try, putting all the straps properly in keepers!
I call it my “tack and feed annex”.
Are you me? Because this fits right down to age of the arthritic anhidrotic Cushings horse.
I’m getting the impression that I might be an Equestrian…
Horse treat, old crusty hot hands packet, used tissue, hay bits (every coat I own)
@ThreeWishes I’ve started analyzing bras based on how the fabric will catch or shed hair and hay. Not going to find this info on the internet product details.
I have a good one:
So - I went to a Catholic college (not Catholic nor terribly religious, personally - would be Methodist if going by church one went to as a child) as an online student. We had to take a religion class and one of our online discussion board assignments involved finding some nature-related quote (school had “four themes” as part of their general philosophy towards whatever and so on and so forth so religion class also revolved around those four core themes, one of which was nature or something, IDK, I’ve slept since then and no one really took the class seriously, it was an interesting mix as we had some really religious students and at least one flaming atheist. )
So, anyway me knowing a grand total of zero bible verses by heart (you kidding me I can say maybe two sentences of the Lord’s Prayer if that’s the one that goes “Our father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name, by kingdom come thy will be done,” and so forth and I just realized I remember more of that than I thought given it’s been a solid 20 years now, easily since I routinely stepped foot in Sunday School.) I did not have a Jesus-y quote but obv. we still had to come up with SOMETHING that we felt resonated with us and related to nature. (I can’t remember the specifics of the assignment but it was basically pick a quote related to nature and explain why you like it or something equally stupid easy.)
My quote? (Keep in mind I’m pretty sure some classmates’ discussion board posts included legit bible verses )
It was some Bill Steinkraus quote from I think one of his books. I’ve now desperately tried to remember what specific one it was, something about how horses are like, gracious animals or something but it has completely escaped my brain and Google isn’t helping me chase this down. It was a really good quote though and managed to fit the discussion board topic prompt well enough for the purposes of the class. Even at the time (probably 2015-16) I remember thinking to myself, “I have classmates quoting the Bible, meanwhile I’m quoting a famous horse person.”
If I remember the specific quote, I’ll pop back in with it or update this post.
EDIT: I remembered the quote I used in that class years ago.
“We must never forget, every time we sit on a horse, what a privilege it is: to be able to unite one’s body with that of another sentient being, one that is stronger, faster and more agile by far than we are, and at the same time, brave, generous and uncommonly forgiving.”
This might have been mentioned, but some equestrians have very strong opinions about training styles and (sometimes) breeds. I know people who religiously follow ONLY certain trainers or only buy Quarter Horses and have very strong thoughts about these things. Not all equestrians, but some to the point that I’ve joked I am in a cult.
