Sorry…I totally ordered 4 Tiger Tongues from SP due to this thread Mine are arriving tomorrow!
Hahaha…I ordered two and I know a barnmate ordered as well.
My horses definitely liked it on their faces…and it removed sweat marks (although I’m not sure that was any better than my other grooming tool).
I’m not really sure of the best way to use it: it is supposed to be dry or wet? do you use it like a curry or a brush (circles or sweeping motion). In place of a curry?
It confuses me a little.
I did dry, circular like a curry, and I think it got down to the skin level well without eliciting the “I don’t want that” response my thin skinned horses give to a normal curry
I am in LOVE with my Huntly Bridle & Martingale . Also I purchased a 100% wool New Market Dress Sheet from England and its so lovely. Oh and my custom boots.
Tomorrow paste. My horse came to me with some deep creases in his heels/frogs and I used at any sign of moist grossness and it worked wonders. That with nice consistent trims and his feet look great now!
Also, Equiderma cream for skin funk. Cleared up pastern dermatitis in a few days, even with the horse out in the mud still.
All of the above. I have used it wet and dry. And as a curry and a brush–the former for more deep cleaning and the latter to swoop off shavings or brush after currying with something else.
- Ice Clay poultice by Cavalor is expensive but worth it. Found it at WEF when speaking to some Europeans. It goes on, washes/ brushes off easily, legs look great.
- Henri DiRevel fleece/ leather show girth looks like all the very expensive ones, but no where near the cost.
- My Ovation boots. I use them for daily riding. They were inexpensive and look fantastic. I am lucky that I can wear children’s tall.
Ultimate Hoof Pick–indestructible, can pick anything and doesn’t bend.
Premier Equine quick wraps–think BOT but half the price. You can get magnetic or ceramic pillow inserts as well, so it’s very interchangeable and at a much better price. There is nothing I hate more than getting ready to leave a show and having to put shipping wraps on because I’m tired, dirty, and hungry. These are so much faster.
AluShield–this stuff is hands down my fave wound treatment. It covers it, doesn’t melt off, bugs don’t try to get in it, doesn’t sting the wound, the wounds dry and heal up SO fast. It can be sneaky though–I got it at TSC and had to go to the cow section to get it.
Higher Standards leather conditioner–I use this on my saddles if I’m doing something and need extra grip the next day. It DEEP conditions and makes everything really grippy. It smells nice and doesn’t leave any yucky residue.
Equiwing aluminum wide tread stirrups–in regular width stirrups, I crank my ankles down and it’s agony. My ankles feel like they’re on fire, and then I lose feeling in them completely. My Equiwings are lightweight and wide, so my ankles feel 100% now. They’re decently affordable too, ~$70 with interchangeable cheese grater pads.
I guess I have a lot of favorites, but these are just a few of my FAVE faves.
All of the above!
I use it like a brush when knocking off dirt, circular when currying or circular+brushing to get rid of a sweat mark, and I have one on the washrack, where I really love it to scrub a face or to add shampoo to scrub lower legs.
(Peggy, I swear, I didn’t see your post before mine - we are of a mind when it comes to Tiger Tongue)
-
Insulated Carhartt bib overalls- because I live in Montana. I swear I could wear nothing under these and be comfortable to single digits.
-
Arctic Chore Insulated Muck Boots- same reason. I have pretty bad circulation, and these are the only footwear I’ve ever owned (horse or not) that can keep my toes warm in cold temps, all the way into negatives.
-
Tipperary schooling helmet-from when I lived in the south  and wanted to ride in the summer without passing out.
My tiger tongue sponges arrived.
It reminds me of a block we have here for removing winter hair. As it dulls you sharpen it on a brick so it disintegrates.
I presume the tiger tongue sponge does not disintegrate. Any tips on cleaning pulled out hair out of it or is that not a problem?
Once you let it out of the package it will expand so it won’t be as stiff and dense as the shedding blocks. I haven’t had a problem with hair, but get rid of miscellaneous dirt by whacking it gently on a nearby hard surface. You can also rinse it. Have fun!
For my horse:
- Epona shed flower - it’s great at removing loose hair and my horse loves it when I use it on her bum for a good scratch/massage!
- Ogilvie pads - they are the only ones I use because they fit so well and stay put, and come in custom colours.
- A custom fly veil from Fun Bonnets - beautiful quality and reasonably priced compared to other brands.
For me:
- Mountain Horse Sovereign boots in brown - they are extremely comfortable, fit beautifully, required no break-in time, and I get lots of compliments in an area where everyone wears black.
- Struck breeches - so so comfortable, I think they feel like leggings, repel dirt pretty well, and have good stickability in the saddle.
- Samshield helmet - the only helmet that doesn’t give me headaches and has lasted many years. Love the washable liner too.
- Voltaire Palm Beach with ‘second skin’
- Mountain Horse Sovereign tall boots in brown
- Herm Sprenger Duo bit
- Equifit fleece-covered ImpacTeq half pad
- Custom made horse hair neck rope/neck strap I bought from my previous barn owner
- Smartpak Leather Halter with nameplate- I bought this in 2009 and it’s still going! It’s my guys daily halter but will clean up and still look sharp at shows
- Cosequin bucket that I got for free at Rolex
Equispot for keeping the ticks off.
Alushield–any tiny little scratch or rub immediately gets a coating of Alushield to keep the gnats off, otherwise my horse will rub and turn it into a much larger problem. I can’t get out every day and this stuff really lasts.
A grooming tote with a shoulder strap. I got mine from Dover a couple of years ago when they had an insanely cheap large one, which sadly seems to be discontinued.
Handz-on gloves.
I bought the same brand boots on your recommendation. Liking them so far, they still are warm in 80 degree weather.
YES TO PADDED REINS!! Even with gloves (oh, so many gloves I have tried!) my hands would always slip with leather or rubber reins, especially when my guy would get so sweaty. These are a game changer for sure. I’ll put that as 1.
-
My Palm Beach Voltaire saddle with pro paneling and second skin. Love. Love, love, love. Did I mention that I love this saddle yet? Buttery soft and my old lady body isn’t aching nor is my horse’s.
-
My GPA Speed Air. With the sweat that I release- the ventilation is uncanny.
Have you tried Amazon? You can purchase them there.
For twice the price!
They arrived I got them from a tack store in America that sends internationally. They are cheap, it is the sending that is not. I bought 7.
So work called and they are paying through the nose to make me drive for a 20 minute job.
I called my friend. I am staying the night there. She said I can help with foal training. I will wrap one up for her as a present.
