Like all those fake tails, the horse hair used in brushes is from the slaughter industry. (You could never accumulate enough hair from just grooming and cleaning; and preparing it for brush manufacture would be almost impossible.)
My favourite grooming tool is elbow grease.
Funny, thatâs my least favorite
Few things for me:
- Health Haircare âPink Stuffâ conditioner
- My horse hair body brush
- My cowboy boot hoof pick (it is similar to me as the Ultimate hoof pick. Great leverage, good clearance and doesnât get gummed up like my classic pick with a brush) https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/epona-mighty-muck-hoof-pick-26001
- My classic mane pulling comb. I have owned it and not lost it for over 25 years. Oh the places that comb has gone!
This bottle for fly spray if your horse hates being squirted. My horse is very offended by squirts, but tolerates this.
These brushes are awesome
honestly this might help me apply SPF to my TB so he wonât bleach â a wish here in Texas thatâs like hoping your ice cream doesnât melt in the summer but hell if I wonât try!
EQyss Avacado or Marigold spray- love them both and change them out. I also love Healthy Hair conditioner.
A mane & tail brush that doesnât pull hair out- recently got the Smartpak one and for $10 or so, itâs been a good find.
Haas leg brush works well on mud. Have the senior brush, Schimmel and a few others.
Still searching for the best hoof pick w brush.
Cowboy Magic rosewater shampoo, conditioner and detangler are my favorites for bathing, though E3 tea tree shampoo is also fantastic.
Iâm curious about this, too. I have two Ultimate Hoofpicks and love them, but I havenât tried the ones with a brush: https://www.ridingwarehouse.com/The_Ultimate_Hoof_Pick_Plus_with_Detachable_Brush/descpage-THPP.html?from=gshop&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7dm-BhCoARIsALFk4v_SU1LvfWppkVK-JzpAQoRf-qBu3in8pVz08bGklY8ssoqLR-KqjfkaAnZuEALw_wcB
If anyone has tried this hoofpick, please feel free to share your thoughts and share if there are better hoof picks!
Ultimateâs have always been my favorite, never tried the one with the brush, until my BIL made me 2 for Christmas one year. OMG. Now thatâs a hoof pick. Heâs a farrier, so they came out with a really good hand feel, just sharp enough to get under the packed mud (clay) and certainly sturdy.
As for grooming tools, that Posture Prep is a favorite for my mare. She only likes it when she has her winter coat, but she will stand and go half to sleep letting me groom and groom on her. Itâs âpillow stuffing timeâ for sure right now!
The other favorite is the Shireâs Cactus Mitt. I like it better than just using burlap because itâs a mitt and I can spread my hand out in it and give a good rubdown that way. I use it a lot on her face, and in the summer when her coat is just too thin for brushes.
Brushes, I have Haas and I have no-name, I like my Haas quite well and they are very well made.
Yes!
These silly cheap things are so amazing for so many things.
Everyone needs one of these.
Easy Care makes a nice hoof pick with stuff brush. Though it is BIG, so smaller hands may have an issue wielding it. But they are nice!
ETA the brush is a wire brush, not a plastic-bristled brush.
I love that Marigold spray. Does it actually do anything ? I donât know. I use it during shedding season because it smells so good and makes the hair stick to itself and not fly everywhere quite as badly.
Cowboy Magic, Coat Defense Peppermint Powder and Durasole are pretty much the only 3 grooming products I use
I love this one for the wire brush but I donât think Iâve ever actually used it as a hoof pick haha. I find it very unwieldy despite my quite large hands
Arvazallia Argan Oil Hair Mask. Hands down the best conditioner Iâve ever found, especially for my grayâs tail that gets a lot of washing during the summer show season. A little goes a long way - one jar has easily lasted me over a year. The price is very reasonable too, $15 on Amazon.
I also love a drugstore Wet Brush for manes and tails - my own usually get retired to the grooming box when itâs time to replace.
I second this. I LOVE my Haas brushes. They are worth the investment.
I bought two of these, one for me and one for the barn. haha! Thanks for the suggestion.
Do you leave the oil mask in or rinse it out?
