Your ride or die grooming products

These things are amazing. There is a version tractor supply carries that’s basically the same. I gave them the side eye when I was on a riding holiday in Scotland, but after a week of using them I came home and bought two :joy:

Do you dilute and spray or use full strength? Any issues with sickness? What’s the tail texture you’re working with?

So I used the Argan Oil mask on my horse’s tail today, and it was fantastic! Made it silky smooth and easy to detangle.

Whoa. Hold the phone. Tell me more about this. You spray it on, then brush, and the hair is less likely to fly up my nose, stick to my sleeves, and creep down into my knickers??

I mean you could also just use a spray bottle with some water in it. Just getting the hair a little damp makes it not fly around as much. Obviously don’t soak them. I usually curry and then spray and shed in sections. But water doesn’t smell good.

OK I use the pink hair moisturizer spray stuff but I don’t think I’ve ever noticed it make the shedding hair less likely to fly all over. I was wondering about the magical properties I was missing out on!

Hmm, I notice water or the marigold spray both make a significant difference!

I’ve found that coat defense powder works well on my mare’s sensitive skin. In the summer she gets little bumps on her skin- not hives, but just little scabby things- I’m sure people know what I mean. I put it on them which I think helps.
I also put it on sweaty, hairy horses in the winter to help them dry off combined with a posture prep curry

Their shampoo is my favorite

Equiderma skin lotion works so good for cannon crud.

I use the Quench full strength on damp or dry hair. Maybe a quarter sized amount or slightly more, applied from just below the tail bone through the ends. I’ll then go over the top of the tail with whatever is left on my hands, so not a lot.

His tail isn’t particularly thick, maybe medium in texture. It doesn’t have that super slick finish like Cowboy Magic but it absorbs nicely and detangles too.

yesss! It is so gross feeling (greasy) but works quite well.

I love argon oil for horse tails, manes, and coats. It’s also really good for dry skin. In between washings, I put some type of moisturizer or oil (like argon, rosemary, or coconut) on the ends of my horse’s tail. It helps keep the tail so nice and shiny, too.

My Hoof Wand–Debbie used it on Cinnabar’s still muddy hoof walls and it got the mud off. The diamond texture part did not really get the really wet mud off of his coronary bands. It might work better on dried mud. This tool seems to depend on the angle of attack for getting mud off the hoof wall and the strength it is used on the muddy hair. I used my extra one to get some mud off of my riding boots before I came into my house, it got some, but not all,of the mud off the bottoms and sides of my boots. I still had to use my Haas Hoof Duo pick/brush to get the soles of my Ariat boots completely clean.

The Imperial Duo Brush Combo Hoof Pick–Debbie had already cleaned his hooves out, but she seemed interested in having the wire brush right there if she needed it.

The Epona Queen’s Mane and Tail Brush just came today, so I have not used it on a horse yet.
I did use it on myself and it instantly became my favorite hair brush that I have used in my life–73 years. It tore out a LOT LESS hair from my scalp than my usual boar bristle hair brush and it felt so good on my head! I LOVE this brush for myself, I hope the horses like it as much as I do!

I will be giving this brush to my DILs for gifts, and I think that Debbie and Shannon will be glad that I got one for them as well as for their horses.

As I get older I find more and more hair in my hair brush. Hopefully this Queen’s brush will leave me with a lot more hair!

Does anyone use Vetrolin Bath (Ultra-Hydrating Argan Oil Conditioning Shampoo)?

I used to use Vetrolin Bath decades ago (I don’t think it was "Ultra-Hydrating, yadda yadda back then), and it always seemed fine. Also used Vetrolin Shine a lot and it worked well.

Just wondering. I bought some Vetrolin Bath at TSC yesterday and I’m reading lots of good reviews of it online.

They had one of the big containers of Orvus too, and I ALMOST bought that. Figured the horse and I would both be dead and buried before I used all of it. LOL.

But Vetrolin got me with their clever marketing: “ultra-hydrating” and “Argain oil” and “Conditioning” all lured me in. Plus…it’s cheap, and the smell whisks me back in time.

I use the shampoo just because I like the smell. Same with the liniment, although I do think it’s a little cooling for them too.

Today I gave Shannon, my friend who helps me ride my Home Horse, 2 of The Epona Queen’s mane and tail brush, one for her and one for her horses.

She tried in on herself and LOVES it!

Personally this brush is saving me a lot of time and energy, it seems to just float through my hair and I need to brush my hair a lot less each time when I use it.

On your recommendation, Jackie, I just ordered one. Theoretically it’s for the horses, but it might end up being for me.

Not a grooming product, but I love my dog nail clippers for cutting hay strings. They go to the hay barn after they get a little dull cutting dog nails.

Any advice for dealing with dreadlocks in the mane and tail? Feronia has both. Her mane is long and very thick, above the part rubbed out by blankets anyway, The top layer looks fine, but underneath she has some very fat dreads. Her tail is thin but it also has dreads. Both are dirty; at some point she will get a bath but not until the weather is warmer.
