I can’t advise about how to get the dreadlocks out, - I think it would require the kind of patience I wish I had, carefully unwinding them, with the help of untangling product.
But my Epona Queen hairbrush arrived last night, and I tried it on my own long, thick and tangly hair - I think it might be just the thing to help you with your beautiful girl’s mane.
I am going to keep this one and order another one for the barn.
I swear by the Manely Long Hair products. Mix equal parts conditioner and detangler in your hand and apply liberally to the hair. Do not brush yet. Continue to apply liberal amounts of this every day or so for about a week. Then, and only with completely dry hair, start to brush. Start at the bottom and work your way up. It’s amazing how well it works. It seems to dissolve the yuck that is causing the matted hair.
It does take some patience because I always want to start brushing it right after I apply the product, and it takes discipline to resist that urge!
Oooooh I’m gonna have to check this out
Cowboy Magic detangler gel + a lot of finger picking things through. I used to groom for a friend with Friesians and that stuff was the only thing that kept us sane in the mane/tail department.
So…sounds a little bizarre but during shedding season, I make use of the plastic pitch fork for my part yak. It takes off an insane amount of hair with less effort. He SERIOUSLY enjoys the scratching.
Plus you can stand about 4-5’ away from all the falling hair and/or dried mud!
Ha ha I used to use a broom on my late ottb. He was quite the roller and would absolutely cake himself in mud
Anything oil/siliconel based will help with the dreads. They just take patience.
More on the Epona Queen’s Mane and Tail brush.
My grandsons visited me today. One of them has super curly hair. He tried this brush on it and he wants one now, he liked how it was not tearing out his hair. I told his father, my son, that when I get them the brushes that he might want to take it along to my grandson’s next trip to the barber shop because of the way his normal dandelion looking puff was straightened out somewhat leaving very long bangs over his eyes.
They liked how the brush felt on their scalp too.
Great stuff! Smells heavenly and works really well. My pony’s thick long mane gets windknots, which twist and flip and have more than a few times tempted me to cut them off. The detangler works through it easily.
Can you post a link to the Hoof Wand or a picture of it? I’m curious!
Hmmm…wonder how it would work on a long haired barn kitty… He’s shedding for spring and has developed a few minor matts.
I have yet to try it on a cat but it is worth a try. At least the handle is over 4" long.
I cannot imagine anything with hair objecting to this brush but cats can object to anything!
My scalp still loves this brush.
Order placed for the Queen mane and tale brush (ok I got 2), and marigold spray. I got influenced.
Ha ha yeh I got influenced as well. I stopped in at my local Dover and bought 2, one for me and the horse. So far my guy really likes it. It worked well on his name and tail but he also really liked it on his face and neck.
Oh man, that Queen’s brush does absolutely nothing for me. But I adore the Tiger’s Tongue. Influencing is a tricky business.
I have to be honest… I first read this as “the Queen’s bush” and was left with nothing but questions…
I love the Solocomb, but how often are you finding you need to change the blade? It seems like I get one mane trim out of each blade before it stops cutting nicely. And the blades are almost as much as a new comb! Curious if there’s something I’m doing wrong.
