People who obviously know nothing about newborns were freaking out over his first attempts to stand and insisting he had something wrong with his hind end. So they pulled the video and released a very short one of him lying next to her.
so, so, so cute!
So do you think they’ll let her raise her foal, or will it go to a nurse mare when time to re-breed?
Since she is so high profile wondering if the practice might be different for her…
It was a very sweet video … too bad it was pulled.
Z was gently licking him, first on his butt and then around his ears. She looked calm and attentive, ignoring the fresh treats (alfalfa?) placed in a couple of spots on the bedding in front of her in favor of checking out her still damp foal.
Ann was audible, speaking sweetly to both the foal and Z, exclaiming after the foal stretched out his left rear, “Oh Zennie, he has polka dots on his feet just like you!”
bah! way to ruin it for the rest of us! I love watching their first attempts to stand
The fans…
I feel for the real people involved with Zenyatta… Some of the Facebook fan comments and demands are just beyond crazy:
There is one FB fan who started a rant about the lack of video access (C&P from FB in a post about DEMANDING to see the video):
==================
This seems to be part of an ongoing LE policy to restrict live videos…this is just so unbelievably archaic thinking. We have not had any live videos of her to speak of unless they are promoting some thing (for charity). The video that was shown at the Celebration last year at the BC has not been distributed. Why? Just so terribly short-sighted, and it has to be LE. Dottie talked about having a video of the foal with Z, just like the video that Dottie posted about the Super Saver foal first efforts to stand that was a YouTube sensation. She posted it in one of Z’s Diary entries. She mentioned this in the TVG interview, so I know they (connections) are in favor of releasing videos of Z. I’m ready for the Mosses to move Zenyatta to another farm that is more fan friendly. We were led to believe early on that LE would “work something out” about allowing fan access…nada, zip, nothing was done. A couple of production videos and that’s been it. This mare has proved that she has staying power, just like she did on the track. The interest in her will not diminish, she will not “fade” like Bill Farish predicted. Her FB page doubled this past year while she was in retirement with almost now 101,000. If I had the money, I would run a bunch of billboards with the message: Let our mare go!!! Let her be seen in live videos, especially if you won’t allow fan access in person. Let our mare go!!!

Most of all, I guess I’m hurt, confused and angry about not being able to see Zenyatta live in a video with her foal. Such a huge shame, and such a disservice to her fans. Not just one or two, but new videos every week so we can see this little fellow develop. It’s just not right to build us up and then let us down and not allow us to be a witness to this wonderful event. So sad for me, anyway

I’m not whining…just voicing my frustration at a policy that doesn’t make sense…Dottie herself mentioned this in her interview with TVG. She herself posted the video of the Super Saver filly. When I’m promised something and it doesn’t occur, I care enough to speak up
Ey yi yi!
BLBGP, in time honored tradition, the horse news industry had not “printed” of the birth until the farm presented the official release about the birth.
The Farish girl, of all folk, ignored this time honored tradition & Tweeted that which “was not really hers to” Tweet.
Priveledged youth that just does not give a hoot & respects little? Over excitment to be amongst the very first to tell the world? Or an honest oops moment?
I do not know what her reasons were; but it was not her place to be Tweeting about it. Some in the horse journalism industry are pissed off she chose to “scoop” the news. They had with been sitting upon the knowledge in good form & integrity of industry standards, awating the offical farm announcement, before they released what they already knew.
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Fortunately, at least in the Moss’ case, the connections are used to dealing with fanatics.
foundationmare:
Congratulations Team Z! He is a beautiful boy, but, them, I think they ALL are!
I hope both Rachel’s boy and Zenyatta’s boy are allowed to develop without a rush to the Triple Crown trail but I won’t be holding my breath. That’s a LOT of pressure!
I’d worry more about Rachel’s foal, although that one may mature a bit faster.
I’m guessing that we won’t necessarily see Z’s foal pushed to the Triple Crown. Given how big he’s likely to be, how slow Z was to mature and the ability of the owners to give her all the time she needed- I think this one will be OK. If he gives the indications, fine. But I think the Moss’s will do what’s right for the colt. I just hope all continues to go well and whether or not he got the genes, he’s given the right to be just who and and what he will be. And I think he’ll be allowed to do that.
Congrats to Z!
Unfortunately it does bring out the krazy in some fanatics not unlike Barbaro did.
Can’t some folks just enjoy the beauty of it all for a few minutes before the silly talk? You can toss this on the pile as well for “too soon”
Assuming that the Moss’s will place Zenyatta’s kin in the care of John Shirreffs and the Rachel Alexandra colt will be with Steve Asmussen for Stonestreet, it’s not inconceivable that both foals will eventually find themselves stabled in Southern California. Santa Anita Park should begin planning for a maiden race on December 26, 2014, that would carry a $1-million purse if both foals show up.
Jeeze the foal hasn’t even been walking for a day yet. Come on.
Congratulations to Z and her family !
CONGRATULATIONS TO Z AND HER FAMILY !
HE IS SOME HANDSOME COLT !!!
BEAUTIFUL PICTURES ````
Beautiful, just beautiful. Congratulations to all involved.

It’ll serve some of these people right if at least one is such a flop he can’t even get a gate card so there’s no racing, full stop. I hate to see what they’ll do if one turns out to be a head case who needs to lose a couple body parts to get his brain on the job. Some of the people whining about Lane’s End’s video policy as textbook examples of Why People Cannot Have Nice Things.
What a cute boy. Big boy, too! Can’t wait until there’s video of him outside…
Supposedly “exclusive” video to be aired on HRTV Sat. morning @ 10am cst

This… A lot of pressure for a 1 day old baby…
But he is darling and I wish nothing but the best for him and RA’s colt.

Hey, if one of them turns out to be a crap racehorse, I’m sure he’d make a lovely gelding and you know, I’ve got room…
Right now, half out of spite and half out of not being completely clueless about horses I would happily put $20 on “neither one wins the Derby” in Vegas.

So happy for the Moss’!
It’s great to see such an excellent race mare become a kind mother as well.
Wow, I had no idea there were such whackjob racing fans out there.

“Let our mare go!!!” LOL. Funniest thing I’ve read all night
Is it really customary to take the foals off the dam and put them with nurse mare at time of breed-back?
