Ziconic

Came in 3rd

As long as it wasn’t out of three that makes him a thousand times better than his older brother, so…

Started out like his mom. Ran green. Closed fast. 3rd by a little over a length. Shirreff never has them at peak first time out. Thought it was a good race for the colt. Looks like he goes better at a distance. His brother hasn’t broke his maiden in two starts. The colt went off at 6-5. Sentiment is always a losing bet but has potential next time out.

Thought he was out of it going down the back stretch (I think everyone else did too  ) and closed nicely. Maybe hope for this one…

Made a great late move. The connections should be excited. Me I take each race one at a time. Too many dreams have turned into a nightmares.

He’s the 5 horse big white blaze tailing the field for most of the race. Green silks but there are 2 jocks with green silks and cap.

The only issue Id have with that race is that he closed into a ridiculously slow final quarter mile…so I dont know if he was closing, or if the rest of the horses were just stopping. We’ll see next time.

At least he finished in the same time zone as the rest as opposed to his brother

Ziconic is a “rubber necker.” In the stretch, the fast closing colt was looking up into the stands. Typical green horse move.

Gary Stevens said it was a fun ride during a post race interview. He said that just before the stretch they were about 13 or 14 lengths back, when Stevens said “your mother could win from this far back let’s see what you can do” and Ziconic took off.

I’ll be interested to see what the colt does when he actually looks for the finish line. LOL. Ron Ellis on TVG said that Ziconic’s works didn’t show speed.

Thank you Shammy Davis!!!

Minor baby-brain, both getting off slowly and gawking and drifting a bit. At least he clearly figured out what he was supposed to be doing, unlike Cozmic One, who seems to know but not care.

I agree, baby-brain but at least showed a bit more than brother did  even if Ziconic was oogling stands

Yeah…I sat back and said, ‘Oh, well, he’s finished.’ Then he passed one horse and I said, ‘Yay, he won’t come in last.’

And then I was on my feet, cheering.

Makes second start this Friday.

I guess we could presume the jock change but I thought Gary did a great job.

Oh well.

I thought I read that Stevens was moving his tack to Keeneland for the Spring.

4th race at SA on Friday with Mike Smith aboard.

First day of racing at Keeneland would be April 8th… So how would that affect his availability for March 25th?

Also… good jocks have been known to take planes to stay on nice horses. So for a couple reasons we could be seeing Mike up there. But moreover probably only is John’s allegiance to him.

I thought I read somewhere that Mike doesn’t ride first-time starters; could be the plan all along for him to ride the 2nd race out.

Still a maiden.
