2016 Breeder's Cup - all races :)

Derby winner, Nyquist, was retired several days ago.

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/216274/derby-winner-nyquist-retired

“Puffy Ankle” was the official reason.
Unofficial reason - he had gone off the boil, so retire him before another loss.

The Distaff was an amazing race. I wanted Beholder to go out a winner but after that stretch duel I was almost hoping for a dead heat between those 2 gutty mares. Gotta wonder if the short runback on Stellar Wind helped drive that lackluster performance.

Yes, a passing of the torch…

Sorry to hear about Corona Del Inca (condylar, sesamoid, pastern fractures) :frowning:

The Dirt Mile was great as well. Runhappy said yet again he’s done. Nothing much from Dortmund.

Evidently the TVG-NBC agreement was not appealing (at least for me). TVG had no-one on site at SA, all their coverage was from their studio. No post parades and races after only about 10 minutes after the race was run (for all 4 of the BC races today). I am expecting more of the same tomorrow :frowning:

New Money Honey/Songbird Breeding

Very technical breeding questions.
1-I noticed that New Money Honey, Songbird and Rachel Alexandra are all by MDO out of mares by sons of Forty Niner. Is that considered a distinct cross/nick? at this point or is it just Saddlers Wells over Mr. Prospector?
2-Follow up question. If it is considered an important cross, is everyone will a mare out of a forty nine stallion trying to get into MDO’s book or is the $150,000 stud fee turning off a lot of qualifying mares? I wouldn’t think there are many high dollar mares by sons of forty niner.

Thinking of heading over to Tampa Bay Downs tomorrow to maybe watch the BC with like minded others.

I believe they’re not running, but have simulcasting/a casino? How is it - not too seedy/cheesy, right? My alternative is staying in my room watching online - which is just fine. I’d also be by myself if I went.

Then again, when watching close up at home, I have online access to PPs, and can get a bet in immediately if i like/dislike someone in the post parade.

I haven’t been there in years but no I don’t think it is seedy or cheesy. In general simulcasts don’t have audio or at least not audio aside from the call of the race so if you are like me and want to hear the commentary and interviews between races you may be disappointed. The last time I was there was to watch my horse win an allowance race in Maryland while I was in Florida for my Grandma’s 100th birthday so I have good memories of the place.

Yeah - thinking about it, am leaning towards not going. Looks like things get going there after Thanksgiving. And I’d enjoy races of any level live, but didn’t see much mentioned on their website - nothing about a restaurant - just the bar there. And I can set myself up here more comfortably - food and comfort wise. AND have a better glance/commentary for the BC races.
And sit out in the sun between races - which I never get to do with the hours I work.

Would love to see an interview of Gary Stevens/Mike Smith. If anyone sees one and can provide a link, that would be great.

To be fair to Dortmund, he has had three straight losses to CC. That takes something out of good horse.

Runhappy was done when Wohlers returned to handling him. Can’t think of any horse that responds well to craziness and ineptitude.

Is Runhappy done or does he just need to go back to 6 furlongs?

My veterinarian and his wife are at the Breeders Cup courtesy of his winning some kind of contest. They won an all-expense paid trip – flights, meals, transportation, barn tours, celebrity meet & greets and they have been sitting in Bob Baffert’s box!

What time is the classic? The one with California Chrome? My vet said he will be in the winner’s circle and we all want to watch on TV.

We are in the Eastern Time Zone and we are still on Daylight Savings Time (will change tonight).

Also NBC or which other station for best coverage? We have DirecTV.

Thank you!!!

Shaman Ghost out of the Classic after spiking a fever.

SMC, that contest was put on by the company my daughter works for. So cool to “know” the person who won it. They really make you earn the win, it isn’t just luck.

TVG if you have the extra coverage but they aren’t immediately broadcasting the races live (delayed).

NBC and NBCSports are it unless you go for some live streaming option. NBC owns the rights to BC currently so that will be, today, the only place on “TV” to see them.

I do TVG for the between race babble then flip to NBC/NBCSports (depending on time/race) for PP and race.

There is no it reason that Runhappy can’t return to winning form. Dropping down in distance and class might help to get him back on G1 form. He has natural speed that apparently is being misdirected by his brainless connections. Obviously, his last two performances are a measure of their ineptitude.

Insight into morning line thinking.

Informative article about a difficult task that very few handicappers have a true knack for it.

He told me he had to answer questions correctly and do some other things. I’m looking forward to the whole story, including highlights of his trip, when he comes over on November 9th to do fall shots.

He is such a nice man. He and his wife are so good for each other and he truly respects her and everything she does. They have five children (three married and two of the married couples have two children each). He is such a hard worker and we all feel so fortunate to have him to care for our horses.

He absolutely loves racing and we are about as excited for his win as he is. We can’t wait to see “our” Dr. Stafford on TV in the winner’s circle!

Yes, I have seen this but I cannot figure out when the “big” race is being run.

I need Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

Thank you!
