Ah okay, so it is a bit like QH SI ratings.

For the colts, 50 pts on the line in the Fountain of Youth at GP on February 27th.

For the fillies it is 50 pts each for the UAE Oaks, Busher, and Davona Dale.

Really interested in seeing how Mohamen does with a step up in company (at least it sounded that way to me).

I’m still thinking Songbird is the filly to beat for the Oaks.

This is always such a fun time of year to speculate on who is Derby/Oaks potential and watching new favorites arrive on the scene after maybe lackluster 2 year old seasons

BH says FOY stakes competitive.

Interesting and patient tactics on the part of owner trainer Larry Jones to move his colt Jensen on to the derby trail.

Today, bring on the Davona Dale and Fountain of Youth

Two good races with more than one strong contender to win or place well.

Davona Dale won by predictable Cathyrn Sophia.

Cathryn Sophia … nice

Would like to see her meet up with Songbird in May…

MO D’AMOUR wins the Busher at AQ.

IHTIMAL romps in the UAE Oaks.

Really premier race day at GP. MOHAYMEN never a question to win the FOY Stakes.

Also been catching up on my reading and found this slightly dated article that puts another perspective on the road to the KD particularly as it relates to owners and trainers

http://www.horseracingbusiness.com/kentucky-derby-hopes-13771.htm

Gotta admit my two early picks…

Nyquist and Mohaymen

Songbird and Cathryn Sophia

Still 2 months to go but these are, to me, starting to look like the class of the 2016 Derby/Oaks crop

JUSTWHISTLEDIXIE over the Kentucky Derby prospects of MOHAYMEN.

Here’s a 2015 article with an interesting take on last place finishers in Kentucky Derby that allows for a brighter future. If you bet the last finisher in 2016 tear up the ticket but remember the horse. You might make up your losses another day.

Older article as Mohaymen has now added the Fountain of Youth to his resume  But nice to see he is living up to his breeding and what his connections plopped down at auction

But the article did give me a chance to vote for who I’d personally like to see take over Denman’s job at SA

Normally the number of colts dropping from the derby trail by March is starting to add up. AIROFORCE is the only one I can think of so far. This Saturday is the Gotham and next Sat the Tampa Bay Derby and San Felipe.

The fillies are holding up too. SONGBIRD maybe tested on a wet track in San Ysabel this weekend.

Oaklawn hosts the Honeybee Stakes on Saturday March 12.

Payson Park quarantined at least 3 weeks.

http://www.drf.com/news/herpes-positive-forces-quarantine-payson-park

"The long-range impact, however, figures to be greater, with such high-profile stables as Bill Mott, Christophe Clement and Shug McGaughey making their winter home at Payson.

Clement has five horses nominated to Saturday’s Grade 3 The Very One Stakes at Gulfstream. Mott has two horses and Clement one horse nominated for the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida on the same card. Mott will also have to alter plans for his top 3-year-old filly Carina Mia, who was scheduled to launch her 2016 campaign in the Grade 2 Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn Park a week from Saturday."

Yet another workout with a paycheck for Songbird in the San Isabel…

I like Cathryn Sophia but I suspect even she will be no match for Songbird.

I respect the connection’s desire to keep her in the Oaks but at some point, wondering how she’d match up to the boys…
