2016 Kentucky Derby & Oaks . . .
Yet another workout with a paycheck for Songbird in the San Isabel…

I like Cathryn Sophia but I suspect even she will be no match for Songbird.

I respect the connection’s desire to keep her in the Oaks but at some point, wondering how she’d match up to the boys…
The race seemed a canter in the park for Songbird; she sure seems to be something special. It would be nice to have another Z or Rachel to watch for a year or two - or three.

She sure was something else.

Think I read somewhere that they may consider The Haskell or The Travers later on, so yes, she may hopefully meet up with the boys. Of course, this is jumping ahead a bit.

Agree it is GREAT to have another amazing filly to follow!

SONGBIRD favorite in future wagering for Oaks.

MOHAYMEN leads Haskin ’ s Derby picks. I agree. Don’t see a colt that compares.

Crowded list of hopefuls fill Santa Anita workout schedules. Don’t ever recall this many west coast colts angling for the derby field.

Interesting article that made me think immediately: bad idea.

Does seem appropriate that an idea like this would come up during this crazy primary season. LOL.

DANZIG CANDY , DESTIN, and the filly TERRA PROMESSA all add points.

Even with DANZIG CANDY and DESTIN moving into the top four on points, I think MOHAYMEN has to be the favorite.

Here is McLaughlin’s take on his colt.

I’m still leaning toward Moyamen or Nyquist.

I love how Moyamen takes it all in stride and doesn’t get worked up about noise and activity in the saddling ring.

Could also still come down to PPs in the Derby and where everyone is placed at the break and who rates the best

Only the Rebel Stakes this Sat. The show down between NYQUIST and MOHAYMEN in the FL Derby is probably more on everyone’s mind. Can’t recall a 3 yr old best of East and West facing off prior to the KD. Interesting strategy for both connections, if it is a conscious tactic, as imo it is.

Here’s the Rebel field and other races today at OP. Looks like a great day of racing with the Azeri and Razorback.

Added: Ahhhh . . . NYQUIST is running in FL for the big bucks bonus.

Cupid wins the Rebel for Baffert. Horse is owned by Tabor, Magnier and Smith. They bought him for 900k, and his sire is Tapit. Dam line is nowhere near as impressive.

And Suddenbreakingnews didn’t have it today. I was thinking he might have had a chance in the Derby with a good performance today. His PP sure didn’t help in that large field.

Hope the following doesn’t sidetrack the main tropic of this thread. But I thought it would lend some insight to what proper seats cost for the Derby/Oaks. Personally I prefer a Box. Been VERY fortunate to have friends in the right places who included me in their Box for many years. I rarely paid anything. I sat at table in this area before the renovation a number of years ago for the Breeders’ Cup. It is fabulous but I didn’t feel nearly as much of the excitement, energy as I do/did when outside in the crowd. To me it’s kind of like being at the races but watching the races on one of the big TV screens. I’m old school, prefer to be out in the crowd and follow the horses with my binoculars.

This is NOT an advertisement. I have nothing to do with ownership nor am I brokering it. It was emailed to me by a friend who seems to think I still have some money left. I post this for “educational” value.

[I]8 seat table to Oaks and Derby in the newly totally renovated Stakes Room for sale. This is really high-end. It is table A3 with table A1 being closest to the Finish Line. This table is against the glass. The tickets include open bar for both days and food for both days. You have direct access to an outdoor balcony in front of glass which is directly on the finish line. These tickets used to be in the 4th floor turf club, but Churchill did a multimillion dollar renovation to create this stakes room. These seats are some of the best seats you can get. Room is air conditioned and you are covered on balcony if bad weather, all your food and drink is taken care of and wait staff is great, the balcony lets you watch the race outdoors with perfect sight lines, private tellers / machines so you don’t wait too long to wager, and the room is full of fun and interesting people. It is a very high end experience. They have added another balcony on the side so you can see paddock, etc, and have really upped their game on the look of the room.

The 8 seat table’s face cost is $22,025 and there is a $22,500 PSL you have to pay to for the right to buy the tickets. So it’s $5,565 per seat for both days for a total of $44,520. I am charging the buyer an additional 5% which comes to $2,226.

Was hoping to watch the Rebel, but now limited to antenna coverage - and Capital OTB did not carry any races from Oaklawn. :frowning: Had to keep checking on Bloodhorse for the videos.

Really interested to watch Discreetness w/ Court/Fires, and see how they fared. Would have been nice to see them in the TC races again.

I have Dish TV and the racing channels come with the basic program package.

I have DISH downstairs, but had to cut costs and am only on basic now which for some reason here does not include the TVG channels. :frowning:
Upstairs TV is hooked up to the antenna, though, so I catch most racing on OTB -amazingly 50 miles from the Albany area - can wake up to British racing at 5am!

Just replayed The Rebel. What’s with Cupid attempting to take a left after the turn? Still a little green… And poor Ron Moquett…

Affirmed and Alydar almost fit that bill. Though they were both bred in the East, Affirmed went west during his 3-year-old year, while Alydar stayed east.

Tom Amoss unhappy with MO TOM jockey in LA Derby. LANI wins in UAE Derby. LAND OVER SEA moves forward in LA Oaks.

Saw the replay of the Louisiana Derby. You could see the horse was gaining so thought he’d find a path. Wondered what Corie Lanerie was thinking.

Also looks like Greenpointcrusader will be dropped from the ranks of Steve Haskin. Never did materialize.

Lani, the Japanese trained horse that won the UAE Derby at Meydan yesterday is going to the Kentucky Derby. Will ship from Dubai to Louisville next week.
He was bred in KY, by Tapit out of a Japanese bred Sunday Silence mare.

Big strapping grey, he’s a very striking looking horse.

Bring on the Florida Derby.

Mohaymen PP 9 (out of 10), Nyquist is PP 4.

Looking forward to seeing how this race pans out
