2022 Foal Watch?

I didn’t even pick up on that.

These are critical issues, lol! Was her barn name Kleenex? I just…have so many questions. Thanks for sharing a much-needed lighter topic for me to think about today (& of course I hope you get a wonderful & uneventful foaling!).

She has me baffled tonight. This morning when I turned her out before work she looked like textbook progression in the right direction. When I I got home to check her again this afternoon she actually looked like she took a step back. Mares, grrr. This is extra frustrating not really knowing firm dates or how she typically behaves.

Are there going to be legal ?s on the ownership of the foal. I presume that there is some value with it. the sire is not shabby.

That’s what I’m wondering. I honestly haven’t reached out to where she came from yet because I was going to wait until the foal was on the ground. There’s a couple layers of complication. My fear is they will say “you need to send her back.”

But the mare is doing weird things now with her progression. One teat/mammary gland has reduced in size markedly while the other is still full. The small one’s milk has changed and regressed while the other one is milky yellow and going in the right direction.

I’m wondering if she’s much earlier along on a different, undocumented (possibly an oops) breeding and is aborting. Or if this is some weird false pregnancy.

I’m torn what to do. I want to call my vet out right this second but we are having bad weather and she is slammed with bigger emergencies. Grrrr. This is my own fault for getting in this situation.

Arielle is 240 days along today. Both she and I are REALLY hoping that yesterday’s 5" of snow (after near-70 degree temperatures the day before!) was winter’s last dying gasp. She’s looking great and shaping up nicely. I’m also happy to report that shedding season is in full swing around here.

Omaha Beach filly out of Ultimate Class. Mare is doing well, healing from a vaginal laceration that should pose no future complications.

Valiant Minister colt out of Her Special Way. Haven’t picked a barn name yet for this one. He will be gray.

“Dinah” (Dinosaur) filly by Cloud Computing out of Prayer Bell. She is truly huge…as big as the colts a week older! Her mother is about 16.3, and grandmother is 17.2. Brontosaurus runs in the family.

@Texarkana I secretly hope that your mare is bred and by the stallion you think she is. He was a nice racehorse and I adore this stallion’s sire. I adore my STB’s! I’m sure she will be exactly what you got her for once this baby business gets straitened out…

Thanks! I’m about to call the vet as soon as their office opens. We had a weird weekend with no baby. She was restless Saturday night, waxed on one side again last night, but nothing. Her udder has been back and forth. This AM it was very full again, but that’s not unusual after being in all night. It just sucks not really knowing what is going on except I have a big bellied mare with no hind end tone and milk and happened to be bred 356(?) days ago.

@Texarkana, good luck with your mare!

@EventerAJ, I love the pictures. And I agree about how quickly the foals grow. This is Scribble, our filly by Goldencents, now a month old.

What a nice chunky monkey! I sure do miss babies in the straw in the spring… sigh. First thread I open every morning.

That Midshipman colt is precious! The four white legs and blaze remind me so much of my late gelding. Is he headed to the track or was he one of your sport prospects?

Love your babies! Is Brie, the January 1 tank, OK? You haven’t posted photos of her recently.

my mare is sitting at day 302 today and has just started developing a bag. She is a maiden so all bets are off with her. I have been surprised at how easy the wait has been for me up until about a month ago…now I am a basket case. We are struggling finding a camera that will work since the barn is about 400 ft from the house where the wifi is. I think we have decided to get one of those boosters that goes on the camera but haven’t totally made a decision yet what we are going to do. This is my husband’s first foaling since I took about 5 years off from breeding. He is super excited to get the foal watch going.

Awwww!! So sweet DH is excited, too! Good luck!

he is a good one. He had a horse of his own when we met. He happily added on a large foaling stall to the partially unfinished barn and goes out every morning and checks her before he goes to work ( after I had already done it when I fed) he sends me pictures of her bag and everything. He is even asking if we are going to breed back this year. I agree that he is a keeper
