Are people not allowed to say anything to him on the way to the main ring? If I saw that I don’t care if the competitor is my worst enemy, I’d say “hey Soandso, don’t forget to take that flash off!”
For those of us newer to this, can anyone explain what exactly was wrong with his tack?
Edited: Nevermind! Just saw the graphic above! Thank you!
A double bridle (a snaffle bit and weymouth) are not allowed to be used in conjunction with a flash noseband.
@endlessclimb just gotta say, nice grab with the screen shot. Yeah, I’m with you on how did no on notice before he got to the ring?
The confusing part is:
-
nobody on the team knew that tack was illegal; or
-
they knew it was illegal, so knew they had to be diligent in removing the flash, but then somehow…just didn’t?
That’s a whole lot of time, money, effort, prep, etc to get there only to forget to take off a flash.
I’m not in the US, so someone more familiar with the rulebook - is it even legal to warm up in that setup? I know we have rules about what’s allowed in warmup as well as in the show ring.
I can see how Bobby didn’t notice, I’m not exactly looking at my horse’s face from his back! Some poor groom is feeling REALLY, REALLY bad right now!!!
Nope they won’t because they want them to get eliminated lol. I wore bright orange bell boots into the dressage and not a soul said a word. People and riders everywhere lol Not even tack check.
But, he knew it was on the horse, and (I assume) knows it’s illegal and must be removed before entering the competition arena. That means everyone forgot (or didn’t know).
Also, GO DAN!!!
I did a Leslie Law clinic in the same section with Dan and Carmango when the horse was four and barely steered. That one got off the plane a lot greener than anyone thought, Dan’s done an amazing job producing him from the ground up.
I at least have the excuse that I’m not there, because my horse at the time is 90% blind now sadly. Never mind he was long since sold to a kid (who had a blast with him.). No worries, I’ll be out at Training Level this year…Training Level dressage that is. hahahaha!
Even warming up in a flash and double is just plain wrong. Those things should never go together.
I don’t disagree with you there. Weird. I’ve never seen that in my dressage barn, ever! My trainer would never dream of doing that (or overtightening a flash). Our horses aren’t 5* Eventing fit, but still.
Just a guess, but tack check probably figured you’d remove them after warming up (unless you were at tack check immediately before entering the show ring, in which case that sucks). At a show if I saw someone warming up in boots, I wouldn’t say anything because I’d assume they knew to remove them before their test, but needed them in the warmup ring.
Now if I were exiting the ring after my test and saw you walking towards the ring for yours, I would say something since it would be clear you had forgotten.
I was standing beside her for a few minutes before I went in, its ok though I don’t blame anyone but myself lol
Did they start early?
WOW, people are a lot nicer here! I’ve definitely told people about tack issues/boots/etc., and people have done the same for me. And I mostly do dressage shows, where people are supposed to be snobby! What can I say, midwest friendly is a real thing.
That’s why I’m wondering if it’s legal to warm up in illegal tack. If it’s not, they should have been told in the warmup ring/not allowed to warm up until it was corrected. It’s visibly illegal, not like an incorrect bit that you can’t tell until bit check sticks a hand in.
the judge was like…Im so sorry but I have to eliminate you, even though I don’t want to
I was more upset because we scored a 34 in dressage and would have finished 2nd, and this was my horse whose average dressage score before hand was 46…2nd event back after a year off working on dressage LOL
Live and learn and always help a fellow competitor
To be fair I have had some amazing volunteers before who have actually fixed my boots for me and what not.
Test ride just started
I was expecting to see more snaffles, will be interesting to see if there are more in the 5*
Was this at WOW? I’m having vague flashbacks but thinking maybe you were in the other ring because that would be fairly memorable (having my judge have to eliminate someone for that).
I WAS at an event scribing when the competitor wasn’t wearing gloves…again. Judge wrote “no gloves” and underlined it on the scoresheet, and he did end up getting eliminated. I believe it was because he had ridden without gloves at the same event the previous year, had been spoken to and warned, and then did it again.
I remember seeing a ton of doubles in last year’s division too.
Man, I bet Bobby is gutted. I am a little bummed for him, too. Why didn’t anyone say anything?!
It sucks to get all that way and get eliminated for a tack error…
