2022 Kentucky Three Day Event

Yes, I agree. I’m the poster child for nobody-ness and my horse is unwittingly tied to my status.

Things get trickier when I am, or my horse is, what reasonable people would consider a public figure.
International competitors in an international sport at the highest level available go through quite a lot to become public figures. I’m suggesting we – and more importantly, those covering them – treat them that way.

in the 4* the distance / course track for time was clearly marked

but does not appear so in the 5*

is it common for the course designer’s measured track to be marked?

i apologize for my inaccurate language as i cannot remember how the measured track was described in the 4* commentary

Thank you.

Well put. The racing world fully embraces its participants’ status as public figures seeking more publicity. Transparency is the only way forward for all of us.

It’s the grand slam vertical, bending line from #2, has a weird green plank.

Lol that transition out of the interview…

Curious as I’m not as eventer and not much a jumper at all: Jolly Bo also pulled quite a few rails. How many rails do you have to knock down before you realize your horse isn’t in it for the day and retire? Jolly Bo is a “veteran” at this point.

If you’re hitting nearly every fence, seems like something is not right even if your horse is just tired.

Re: pulling a lot of rails – There were so many comments in another thread about the mandatory retirement after 5 rails, with so many posters seeming to think it was a good rule – who would be getting that many??, they should be pulling up any way, thoughta along that line. How does that line of thinking jibe with Buck’s – nothing dramatic, horse just not leaving them up, etc. Personally, I do think sometimes it’s nothing dramatic, but in the other thread the rule seemed to get widespread endorsement. ???

I think pulling multiple rails the day after you’ve galloped around a 4* or 5* cross country track is a lot different from the rule’s intent which as I understand it is to prevent anyone who collects 5 rails in stadium from starting cross country as a safety issue.

These are just little taps. If horses were crashing fences left and right I might agree but that’s not what is happening here.

I don’t agree that performance in stadium is a bellwether for safety on xc. A horse who is a bit sloppy behind and catches a bunch of rails with his toe isn’t going to be a da ger to itself and the rider on xc.

I’m a bit torn. It was a lot of rails but I can totally see your point and I never felt like a round like Jollybo’s was unsafe.

I just got the chance to tune in to the showjumping. Looks like there are lots of rails flying today!

They also don’t have the best SJ record at 4* so I would expect the extra rails at the 5 star

Yep. I think some of them have come down if the horses breathed while going over
