2024 Olympics - Eventing

It was actually quite a bit shorter, the optimum time was somewhere around 9:02 vs. about 11 minutes and change, at least at Kentucky and Maryland….Where you have the added bonus of HILLS too :joy:

ETA forgetting this isn’t a 5* and somewhere I’ve seen it called a “4.5” so I guess we really have nothing to compare it to  no doubt it’s a lot of walking for humans, especially when you are starting and stopping a lot, and challenging for a lot of the horses and riders too!

to me on the armchair division, it looked short but tough. Most of the horses finished full of running.

Second Horse Inspection will take place on July 29 at 7:30 a.m. local time / 1:30 a.m. ET - which makes it 10:30pm July 28 Pacific time. No stream, but EN will be updating on threads.

I agree. Huge fan of hers. I almost feel a bit bad that she could have had the refusal removed if she jumped the correct “option”. Don’t they usually review the longer routes as well so they don’t run into this issue? I wish we could see the video to maybe understand how this happened….

It was hard to get around on foot with all of the water, maybe that’s why it felt long

Appreciate you guys sharing so much. The peacock app has completely and utterly failed to work on my phone. I’ve fought with it about 30 minutes now and I’ve just given up. I’m stuck in an airport with no option but to lean on yall!

Equestrian Australia has released this statement:

PARIS 2024 | Today, during the cross-country phase of the Eventing competition, Australian team member Kevin McNab elected to retire his horse ‘Don Quidam’ on course in the horse’s best interest.

The horse has been assessed by the Australian team veterinarian, who advised that ‘Don Quidam’ has sustained a soft tissue injury and is currently undergoing treatment. The horse is expected to make a full recovery.

Reserve athlete Shenae Lowings will step into the team position to complete the jumping phase tomorrow.

How does the showjumping work for the Chinese individual rider? Does he still have to do 2 rounds? Seems crazy that it’s cumulative if individuals don’t have to do 2.

This is the flag fence for Ros - so hard to tell from this angle!

If they penalize that, they have to do the same to many others. Was jump judge French :upside_down_face: ?

It was very cool. We did Rio as well and it was a ghost town on XC! I highly recommend LA to anyone thinking about it - it’s a great experience and can be very affordable!

Yes she did, and I agree.

Honestly she had one of the better planned tracks. The runouts/refusals had there were riders unable to get their horses attention quick enough to see the fence. I thought it was a good question! It was interesting watching how riders planned that—some rode quite conservative around the bend; some were clearly planning one jump back. Some did have some VERY honest horses who figured it out.

I thought the course was fair, and my only tsk-tsking is that there were several horses IMO who should have been called up sooner because the fitness clearly wasn’t there. There’s a Czech rider/horse combo I’m thinking of in particular. This leads me to the broader question of, “are folks conditioning their horses well enough or was it just an “off” day?”

Was thrilled for the final Japanese rider—incredible to see so many different nations at the top this year! I can forgive Nicolas—look it’s home country, medal contention. The crowd was absolutely wild for him. I do hope his horse recovers well because yes, he looked tired.

Overall lots of good looking horses. I felt good about the event.

I’m still wrapping my head around how short and challenging that dressage test is :hear_no_evil: Better them than me!
