2024 Olympics - Eventing

Yes, I should’ve posted this 50 minutes ago. I was refreshing madly.

Fun fact, they fully lose the commentators at about 40 minutes in.

I am still unclear on what happened. But after Boyd had the unfortunate 40 at Badminton, you would thnk they would ALL look at the alternates very carefully.

Cancara, I have watched all day, and loads of people had that flag down! Tom, did I think Caroline did. Boyd had one at one of the waters. I do not understand what the problem was.
The only one I saw that I woud think was a problem was Alex Ha Chin. One of the flags did go between horse’s front legs.

TV sez NBC will be showing equestrian, but at the moment, it is Basketball with Lebron.

Danny Boy Mom: It is newish for the Olympics. They did this last time in Japan, I don’t think the riders like it but IOC sez this is how it will be.

Now it’s surfing…debating about waiting it out for what most likely be minimal showing of x-country.

it depends on how much you saw this morning, and how much you want to see.

I haven’t watched anything this morning.

I think is switching to eventing after a commercial. I also think he called in ‘inventing’.

The main NBC broadcast has started showing XC.

Which despite having watched it all live on Peacock earlier, I am watching again. The announcers are not John and Lucinda and are probably going to be focused on giving commentary for a general audience than John and Lucinda were. To be seen (heard?) if their commentary always goes dead at one point.

I think at the last Olympics, they cheaped out and didn’t even send the commentators overseas. They were in New York, watching a screen, and that is probably what they did this time too.

Lol, they showed Julia and Shane start, went to commercial and now we’re already at Laura Collett. Skipping like half the riders including the frenchman I find very easy on the eyes, lol.

they are going to cherry pick the best rides. You would think they would at least show the American riders.

I think some of that with Tokyo is because we were still really dealing with COVID at the time - IIRC, a lot of professional sports teams weren’t having their broadcast teams travel during the 2021 season - I know that’s true for some MLB teams, and they’ve since returned to having broadcasters travel with the teams).

I imagine they will show Boyd. A bit surprised they didn’t show Liz, not terribly surprised they didn’t show Caroline, because if they are onsite, that’s when the audio was down, and well, as lovely as she and her horse are, they don’t have the name and did have the still confusing issue on course.

Honestly I’ve loved this about eventing since the first time I spectated many decades ago

God NBC sucks. Saw bits and pieces of about 8 riders and they’re onto swimming. Hopefully they have the full XC on demand somewhere?

We’re getting all of 30 minutes of main channel coverage, including commercials and some shared with tennis, aren’t we?

I write as they’re actually showing a very very horsey Hermes commercial.

they have shown riders at the end, so I doubt they will be going back to it.

Results are back up. All penalties seem to still be standing.

Cool Hermès commercial though, starring Astier Nicolas:

Did you end up bringing food into the venue? Going next month for the para and am hearing that the food situation is a bit questionable - contemplating grabbing to go food from town or hotel to make things easier.

Thanks for all your photos and details, it’s making me excited for my trip.
