Yes, there’s been more than one which is why they’re currently designed to be lightweight and fall away fairly easily. In order to use them as penalty markers as the previous poster suggested you’d have to change that, raising the risk of injury.
Cross Country rerun starts at 6 p.m. central time, today on USA network. However, since basketball is one of the most watched, the U.S. vs. Serbia game that ran over on NBC is running over again.
They’re showing more than the NBC rerun at Noon.
Tomorrow’s stadium jumping is at 6 a.m. central, on E!. and reruns at 8 p.m. central on USA network.
I wasn’t able to watch any of it but I am heartened by the fact that there was only one horse fall. And that I haven’t heard that the fall was fatal or seriously injuring. Good job with the course!
Horse was up quicker than the rider but have heard nothing further.
The horse popped up so fast I would be really surprised if there was significant injury.
I can’t believe some of you don’t like that ditch! It’s such a great question and did exactly what it should. It was so smart to make a half ditch because you hardly see them in the upper levels. It’s the Olympics and the ultimate test! We can’t have everyone going clear
Horse was up quickly and is hopefully okay. After a minute or two of other riders, the broadcast went back and showed the rider from the horse fall up on their own and talking to medical staff on site.
I don’t remember which pair it was offhand, but it looked like they were generally okay in the immediate aftermath, so hopefully both will be long term okay.
I also think there was only one mims clip/frangible device that was activated.
I’ve only really been paying regular attention to eventing for the last year or two, but it does seem like the course did a good job of being safe yet challenging and letting the really good rise to the top.
Haha, yeah the audio was pretty much a hot mess. And some of the camera work was artsy but dumb.
That woodsy, trappy combination was so slick therefore a while. I kept expecting to see something nasty happen there. With the rock tossed down and the sunshine it improved quite a lot as the day wore on.
Stunning venue and an interesting course. The gallop over the bridge was like a dream sequence!
Overall lots to like. A great day of sport. I really enjoyed watching the young Moroccan rider, Noor Slaoui. She and her horse were so lovely. And she was clearly thrilled with their round.
It is not so much that I have a problem with it, there was no camera there and I have no idea how you could have a problem with a small ditch. How could you ‘fall’ into it? I am not criticizing Caroline, I just cannot see how it happened. And the German rider got it wrong and fell.
Cruising down a hill going from dark to light and the horse doesn’t get his eye on it because at this level you don’t jump holes in the ground unless they have a whopping big THING behind them, so he’s not looking for a ditch, he’s looking for the next whopping big THING?
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but XC is being shown right now on USA channel.
And there were 2 options after the first ditch. I think a lot of people didn’t really think thru that second ditch as a possible ‘sleeper’. If the strides off the drop weren’t just right (tricky to control!) the thing was bloody awkward.
The left hand option without the ditch and two skinnies out didn’t add much time. And BOTH options looked like a test of steering. Of course, it’s hard to really understand the set up unless you actually walk the course, so I could be completely wrong .
they might show quite a bit, So far they have shown several, including caroline.
When that many horses dropped their hind end into it, in retrospect it was not a good question. Fences should not punish the horse. This was not a fence that created “good pictures”.
One of the commentators said that the pontoon bridge was tested using three-year-old racehorses, if I heard them correctly. I bet that was an…interesting…day!
well, it is going to be one of those things, at the World championships in Tryon, they had a waterfall. It was an option for the horses to jump up. Several horses saw it clear across the lake, and wouldn’t go near it. They hadn’t been asked to but they just said NO. But one horse, the rider fell off, and the horse saw his line, and made a beeline for the waterfall! He jumped it cleanly!
The German rider who came off on XC wasn’t wearing an air vest. I take it those are not required at that level?
I was able to find the Portuguese rider’s instagram (Manel Grave, grave.eventing) account and had my hubby translate - Manel dislocated a shoulder and broke his clavicle. His horse, Carat, threw a shoe right before the obstacle, which he thinks caused the fall, but walked away and is fine.
Air vests not required at any level, only body protectors.
