Tank is a good way to describe him. And look at that powerful butt!
Day 359. Carina was getting a bath when I dropped by with more feed for her this morning.
She still looks exactly the same to me as when I dropped her off on May 30th. I’m dying inside at the thought of what the bill is going to look like by the time she finally foals.
But, hey. I guess she crossties.
Hey I bet that bath felt good if it is as hot and humid as it is here. Just cuz it cost$$$$$$$$. She may never foal if she has jacuzzi service.
How is your senior mare doing? Any signs yet?
My Lusitano mare foaled 25/06.
I had been getting up every morning at 5:30 to check on her but on that morning I fell back asleep. When I went out at 7 there was a foal! I think she foaled around 6:30. Thankfully everything was fine.
So here he is, Lusitano colt from my mare Eleita and by the handsome stallion Octal (photo at the end of the father).
Haven’t named him yet - it has to start with a V.
So far he seems calm, curious, friendly. Not like my wild skittish filly last year !!
Congratulations!
Nothing yet. My Facebook memories inform me that she was bred one year ago today. I will go check on her in person again tomorrow.
Here’s hoping she goes soon and easily.
Right after I posted, her primary vet sent me an update and a video of baby’s heartbeat from today’s ultrasound.

They say she is finally showing noticeable udder development for the first time since she’s been there and that she’s been acting more uncomfortable today. So maybe she’s finally getting things in gear.
I’ve decided that this baby will be named FC Dazzling Patriot, since it is apparently going to be born pretty close to the 4th. With parents named Countrys Top Gun and AM Dazzling Carina, the name works nicely.
Congratulations! He’s adorable.
What pretty boy with lots of chrome. He will be an athlete! Congratulations
The ears! For some reason I’m obsessed with foal ears … They are just so long!
Carina has made some dramatic changes since I saw her on Sunday, that’s for sure. Her udder has quadrupled, and her vulva is long and relaxed. Milk is still clear, so I don’t think she is imminent, but for the first time I feel like she’s not trying to set a record for the world’s longest equine gestation.
I keep checking in, Carina has impatient Aunties here!
Can’t wait to see her little Lovely!
I bet YOU are close to pawing with impatience.
Just for funsies, my trainer’s assistant rode the stallion Carina is in foal to in a local fair show last week. There was some kind of timed trail class, and it turns out the old man (he is also 23 years old) can even jump a bit:
Not bad for an old school cow pony.
Just got the call that Carina is in labor!
I’m a couple of hours away from the clinic, so I’m feeding everyone here super quick and then heading down. I can’t believe how quickly she progressed once she finally started moving.
Jingles for a smooth delivery.
Looking forward to an update!
Best of luck to you and your mare!
