26 Welsh ponies in danger in Michigan

Unfortunately the owner has ended up with the Cremello mare I was supposedto purchase. :frowning: I tried to sell her to a fellow COTHer after shipping plans fell through and was denied by the agents who bought her at the auction for me, as the owner wanted her back. How sad. Poor pony, I hope the owner treats her better this time around.

I’m so pleased to hear everything went well - and huge thanks to Iron Horse Farm for fixing everything. And Phew - because DH really would have divorced me if one of them had made it to Tennessee for me !

Hmm
I saw the cremello mare being loaded into a trailer with 3 other ponies, two brown, and one was already in the trailer, so I don’t know what it looked like.

Yes, we loaded behind that trailer
it said Palustrine Farms on the side. I believe that Magnum may have taken a picture.

PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK

great job magnum if you were a PI however in this case the anyone was allowed to bid including the Palustrine

this came straight from the lawyer involved in the case for the husband that I spoke with this AM

He said that THE PONIES CAN BE SOLD TO ANYONE INCLUDING THE OWNERS. THERE IS NO INJUNCTION (or whatever it’s called), ETC
AGAINST THAT. HE ALSO SAID THAT AT THE SALE THERE WAS SOME CONFUSION IN REGARDS TO THAT HOWEVER, IT WAS UNJUST AND CALLED OFF.

so, let it rest and remember you don’t always no everything there is much more to this case then any of you know and being cruel to people you don’t know it also very unfair

I have Indy (#11)
I bought the #3palamino. She is so nice. Shes very quiet and friendly and gets along with all my horses. She must be somewhat trained as I had a 10 yr old girl sit on her and she was great. Lead her around on a lead rope.Picks up all feet and very sweet.
I agree that some of these ponies had to have been handled and trained to some extent. Indy ties/leads/picks up feet as well. I saddled her and she was relaxed so maybe some of these ponies were started? I haven’t tried putting any weight on her back yet. She’s very sweet and inquisitive. I hope others are as fortunate with the ponies they purchased.

Most sales barns are such a loud, chaotic environment for a horse/pony that it’s difficult to get an accurate assessment of their personality and temperament there. Given the circumstances, it seems these ponies have handled things well.

YES YES YES! these ponies lived together in a field then sent to a sale where 1 got hurt
sure perhaps they were a bit thin (which also comes from stress) and not in 100% show quality care as they were out all winter then came the divorce which the owner was kicked out of her house
so it makes it hard to care for animals through all of this and more
thanks

I see nothing in IHF’s post that deserves you saying anything about being cruel.

Indy? Thin?!
sure perhaps they were a bit thin
Indy has the opposite problem–she is quite plump. LOL  I saw some others there that were in good weight as well. So, fortunately not all the ponies were thin. I think the younger ones were stressed a lot more and thus, that contributed to them being thin. I would expect with good care, those ponies that were thin will likely gain weight without too much problem and wind up doing quite well. I have to say, overall, these ponies were in MUCH better condition than many I have seen in similar cases over the years. I very much get the impression their original owner cared about these ponies and it was NOT a case where they were blatantly left neglected for months/years.

HMMM
Some interesting things being said

From what I saw I didn’t see one animal that looked neglected, as in skin and bones, sores or wounds not taken care of etc.

Some were not as fat as the brood mares, and the younger ones had not been handled but there was nothing that said to me that these animals were seized for anything more then the divorce.

Now that said, did some one take pictures and gather info on all of the ponies before the sale? I thought I saw someone who was going to do it but now I can’t find it. I would like to see if I can find out about my pony! She’s cute, Chocolate (although she may end up as a rose grey, she’s roaning like crazy) suppose to be 3 although I have not had a chance to look at her teeth as she is very head shy
) her only marking is an upside down(ish) moon on her forehead
#21 I think

I was not directing the word cruel to IHF it was directed at those who have said things that are cruel
I apologize IHF for the misinterpretation however, stating that pics were taken of the poines going in the Palustrine trailer tends to make one think that they are for the purpose of using pics againts the owners
though no wrong doing here

She is referring to my post where I said ‘poor pony’.

UPDATE!!!

The black sheep became a MOMMY sheep today!!! Surprise!!!:D:lol::D:lol: Baby is no bigger than a kitten LOL!

Since someone apparently knows the owner, now that the auction is done and if the owner really cares about the ponies, they should forward the papers, it gives them a better chance of making it in the event they are resold.

DITTO!!!

The poor mama though
she sure was getting tossed around at the action :frowning:

I’m so glad she was able to wait until she was in her comfy new home before lambing

Ambry,

I about peed myself when I read your tag line! :D:lol: Hilarious!

Any word on the special needs kids? The sweet one-eyed mare? The mare with the (maybe) abscessed tooth?

Anyone had the vet out yet, or been able to make an assessment?

thanks!

Papers and info

If people are willing to be respectful the owner will try to figure out what ponies you have but, when people were not being nice she felt no need to help out. Those of you that have my email may send me pics of your pony and I will forward to her and she will see what she has. Anything 3 up she might have papers on but, under 3 she did not register. I guess that you still could though

Hope is doing great says her owner
she always has been fine with the eye and I have not heard from the owner of Lady (supposed tooth)

I think I can get the breeding though for the non papered ones

AWESOME!
