The author is Natalie Keller Reinert. She just came out with her fourth Alex & Alexander book in February. And she also has book about eventing, Ambition.

I read this one because I love mysteries and figured it was worth a shot since it was free anyway. I’ve since bought and read all of the series so far. They’re fun, fast paced reads.

The main character, Thea, is an adult ammy dressage rider who also runs her own accounting business. The horse/dressage aspects of the stories portray the issues that most riders (especially those of us who have to fit horses in around our careers and families) go through very realistically. She has a fairly “normal” family, ups and downs with her boyfriend, etc. She comes across as someone you could know in real life. There are times when Thea gets a bit dramatic and Paul is a bit pigheaded, but not overly so most of the time.

Like any mystery series where the main character is not in law enforcement, there are the moments when you wonder how an average person living in a small town can get into so much trouble. So far, though, the author manages to do a good job of coming up with scenarios that don’t seem too far outside of possibility.

There is a 4 book (for young adults – but I loved them) series – one of the books is called Triple Bar and the author is Sallie something. She has written 8 books and knows horses. She is from New Zealand, and it was interesting to learn about the different shows down there.

My first work of fiction The Horse is Never Wrong will be available for free on Amazon as an e-book from 8/16-8/20 (my current novel Fortune’s Fool is a sequel to The Horse is Never Wrong, although it also functions as a stand-alone novel).

Impractical Horsewoman, I read both your novels and absolutely LOVED them! So well written, interesting and sympathetic protaganists with depth and character, PLUS knowledgeable and realistic horse-world writing.

Count me as a fan! Hope a 3rd work of fiction is due out soon.

I think you mean Kate Lattey  And yes, I totally recommend her stuff! Her Pony Jumper series is wonderful, as are the two not in the series, Dare to Dream, and Dream On! She really knows her stuff and I love reading about the NZ shows! YA, but VERY well-written! Sometimes you can get them for free on amazon, but they ebooks are usually $3 and they’re well worth it!

Joe – the Horse Nobody Loved (Burton’s Farm Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
by Vicky Kaseorg (Author), Alex McGilvery (Editor)

Joe, an ugly and unloved horse trusts no one. And no one trusts him. Until Vicky. This is the story of a troubled horse, and the little girl who loved him. Based on the true adventures of her childhood fifty years ago, the author’s horse, Joe, teaches the lesson that sometimes beauty is not skin-deep, but heart deep, and that the unloved have much to show us about the true nature of love.

free for an unknown period of time - didn’t get this book as it is not the kind of thing I want to read. Either I’ll cry my eyes out or vomit.

Free for Kindle unlimited and only $3.99 otherwise

Both are very good as far as what life is like on the show circuit. Both books are for a mature audience because there is some sex talk.

I must have got this book a little while ago, and found it on my kindle and about 60% of the way through it now.
I LOVE it!! One of the best written horsey books, and a perspective of the main character, that I’ve never read about before. If that makes sense!
I’ll have to get the first one now too
Thankyou!

Thank YOU so much Flight for your feedback! I’m always so excited to hear from readers! I know that I took a risk with the way I used the character’s point-of-view in the story and it is nice to learn that readers enjoyed it!

I’m doing a Kindle Countdown deal for my work of eventing fiction Fortune’s Fool! Only .99!

Link to buy from Amazon here:

As well as all of the wonderful reviews from COTH-ers above, it has also gotten positive buzz from an established eventing fiction author, Natalie Keller Reinert on her blog:

There are very few things horsey you can buy for only .99! Even my hairnet was more expensive than that!

I accidentally signed up for Kindle Unlimited, and it turns out to have a lot of horse fiction, including Impractical Horseman’s book, which I just ordered  I ended up renewing my subscription. I’ve read everything of Natalie Keller Reinert and am always waiting for the next one.

Thank you so much @Jeito! I hope you enjoy Fortune’s Fool!

I am proud to have had Natalie Keller Reinert review my most recent work and just in case anyone missed her most recent release, Show Barn Blues, I would highly recommend it. For anyone who has ever ridden at a h-j barn, it hits VERY close to home:

So far I am  ! I read a lot of different stuff, and this is what I look for: (1) a good story/storyteller, (2) interesting characters, and (3) looking forward to getting back to my book/Kindle. I can definitely say this meets all 3.

Dun Lady’s Jess: The Changespell Saga Kindle Edition
by Doranna Durgin (Author)

An award-winning book (Compton Crook for Best First SF/F/H of the Year) with special forward by Elizabeth Moon, and brand new remarks from Aurora-winning author Julie Czerneda

Courier mount Dun Lady’s Jess accepts the hand of only one man: Carey of Anfeald. Together they race across rugged territories with the spell manuscripts no one else dares to carry, handling secrets with the potential to destroy worlds.

This book is presently free. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but it may be yours. In this volume, the horse turns to a human but retains horse behavior and thought.
