Am I the only one who thinks George Morris is a bad rider?
Exactly! That’s why he was one of the youngest MacLay winners ever, right? Right?
Not one of. He was the youngest ever, I believe. Medal and Maclay finals. In the same year.

Still, to quote Taylor Swift (never thought I’d say that!): Haters gonna hate.

Well that was amazingly adorable and I had no idea Kolas made noises like that! They kinda sound like Cleavland from Family Guy
He gave up dressage. So no dice.
I’m not so sure he’s not about to make a comeback… he posted a new Nick Peronace Dressage banner on his personal Facebook page yesterday…

Doubles stable … My post not directed specifically at you. I admit your comment made me aware of past remarks I’ve read. Such in which posters were directed to older post, because others posters felt they discussed the matter too many times . Your intention is clear & I have no doubts of your intent to help w/resources. I like you wanted to help poster. If in deed not a troll the poster may simply be curious as to why some grouchy wrinkled stiff is so celebrated in the states. I felt poster deserved a serious response beyond speculation of being a troll. Also feel that even tho a dozen or so posts exist already, that doesn’t necessarily exempt it from being recycled yet again.

Not anymore, now it’s rigatoni.

You know what would make my day? If the OP was GM, sitting back bored in his study, and he wanted to see how much the little people loved him.
Yellow Britches … What I meant is that I think If he were shipped to Europe (not just sent to show a bit) he would never be glorified there like he is here in the states.

I’m not impressed by Olympics or team medals in conversion its equivalent to the Kentucky derby ~IMO. Not necessarily always the best horse or riders representatives of any country. Always too political for my taste ~ is my only lasting impression of the Olympics. Regardless if its your candy enjoy

I think GM would be the first to admit he was a stiff rider & not the most natural rider. He would probable confess to be a better teacher than rider … I may have borrowed that from a GM interview ?
Color me confused, because you said the following in your first post:

I think we would of had greater success in past olympics w/a different Chef in the kitchen. Its sad to see SOME of our best riders never participate or even eventually leave the sport due to politics.

That led me to believe you put some weight in how the Olympics go for our teams.

I don’t disagree on your feelings about the Olympics…but I’m not sure how you can say we could have had better success in past games with a different person when we’ve been medaling consistently. And doing just fine in other venues, too. I would say the team was well led.

But whatever. I’m going to go watch the fighting koalas again and go to bed.

Lol … then he should go to that OTHER site

Yup … coming out of the closet I’m a Chapot Lover  I agree US Medals consistently behind the Germans & if 2000 was a success for us. Ugh. Now I’m confused. I am however (loving) the development in Japanese & Saudi riders… I still have a somewhat vested interest.

Do you guys remember when we once had a troll – I have forgotten her exact troll activity, but in the midst of frantic posting, her FATHER came on and chided us for picking on her because she was a good person. In the list of good attributes her father listed about her, he included, “She has never been convicted of any crime.”

So somebody did some due diligence and it turned out that she had been arrested and charged with a crime, but never convicted of it.

And that was the best defense her father could raise on her behalf!!

Does anybody else remember that?

Cindy, that actually made me laugh out loud!

If I can have 1/100th of GM’s effectiveness, I’m going to go ahead and call it a good life.

I still think the houseguest defense is one of the best ever. That certainly comes under the heading of “the good old days” on the BB for me.

I’ve been wasting my whole morning trying to figure out why I’m hearing HUNTING HORNS in my urban apartment.

As it turns out, the Vikings are playing the Jets in the stadium that I can see from my apartment. Apparently the horns are a thing.

Meanwhile, enjoy the image of stupid supershorty running to the window trying to figure out what the heck is going on… all morning…
Oh!!! :lol::lol::lol:

Don’t feel alone Supershorty, we’ve all been there. Thankfully we usually aren’t confused by the important stuff…

Only the hunting horns (or the peacocks, mistaken for people screaming for help).

THAT caused me great anxiety for awhile, as a young person who had never heard a peacock, until it dawned on me (after a lengthy period of analysation) that the “help help” sound is the sound that peacocks make in nature. :o

Of course they are not upset ,they just make that that noise (THE NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE PEOPLE SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER), the noise over which I agonized; should I should call the police or alert a neighbor? (since my parents were out to dinner)!.

MHM, if you have not read the NP thread on the Dressage forum, you need to - with a drink.
Several drinks, really.

I must say, I thought that I made quite a good limerick on that thread.

I did digress a bit, but you had to be there …

I do hope that you are able to find the video that inspired the eloquence and the poetry put forth on that thread…

Classic I tell you!

I think this entire thread was worth it just for that post.

ETA: And I too miss the NP threads. Man, those were funny. Anyone still have that video of him teaching p/p?

I want to be a sucky rider like George Morris.

OP, the man is in his 70s and he can still hope on a strange horse and get more out of it than it’s regular rider. He’s competed for the USA all over the world including at least one Olympics… He’s a darn good rider.

Bad rider like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIKOmN1b7do

Or bad like this, with some of the other great USET members at Aachen?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcJq2VEnMVI

I can get saying you prefer Frank Chapot’s teaching and riding, or Steinkraus, or whomever, of the Great Old Riders. What’s inexplicable is to be unable to appreciate someone who’s accomplished just as much, even if they’re not your personal favorite. I don’t love the Stones as much as the Beatles, but I don’t think they suck.

LOL thank you! I was too tired to go look it up and didn’t want to be wrong

It is kind of sad that there are so many young people who do not know or appreciate what those old people accomplished when they were younger! You can love or hate George and his methods but the man can ride (still!) and his record speaks for itself on his training skills

I feel like “The Fighting Koalas” could be a great band name. Or maybe a hockey team. Or a COTH polo team. I like the possibilities here…
