So the other video is allegedly showing a horse flipping over and injuring its head to the point of needing sutures? and Iâm guessing this is due to AMs actions? If this is the case then itâs even more mind boggling nothing has been done by FEI.
Itâs not so much about reliance. Itâs about whether or not the partner, who is a vet, has firsthand knowledge that medications and treatments were being used to cover up abuse.
Most states have rules for licensed veterinarians obligating them to report abuse, not help cover it up.
I find these attempts to disavow the partnerâs knowledge of AMâs misconduct specious at best. My poor non-horsey husband who doesnât even like horses still knows every single training hiccup/success, physical malady and everything between as relates to my horses. It kind of defies belief that someoneâs life partner/veterinarian would not have some level of awareness of how those horses are managed and what medical treatment they may have been given.
Something that occurred to me, though the thought was unspeakably vile, is whether or not AM treats his SO the way he treats his horses. That would add a layer of complexity to this already fraught situation. I donât have enough information to make judgment calls either way re: his SOâs complicity. But we do know AM is guilty of abuse - that much is blatantly evident from videos.
Regarding involvement of SOs in your horsey life, Iâd be reluctant to lump everyone in the same boat based on MY relationship, as everyoneâs is different.
My opinion of the vetâs complicity could change at any moment as more evidence comes to light.
This. When I was married, my husband almost NEVER came to the barn, shows, etc. Once, he came to the barn with me (I donât recall why) and as we drove up the driveway he pointed to a big grey horse in the pasture and said, âthatâs a pretty horse. Who does he belong to?â Yeah, it was my horse. So everyoneâs experience can be different.
That said though, if your SO is also your vetâŚwell that does imply a degree of inside knowledge.
In the realm of people who may be directly implicated here, what about the owners? It did not sound like Plain Dealing Farm had any horses with him when the videos came out, and he hasnât shown any of theirs since the spring. So unless Iâm missing something, none of Andrewâs current owners has said a thing: either to stand by him/make excuses or to the effect that theyâre just as shocked as everyone else (except oddly few people in the area are) and have moved their horses. And of his current competition horses, three of them are owned by the same person. So itâs starting to feel like theyâre hoping this will all blow over and Andrew can continue on as he has.
Iâm not assuming anyone has the same life. My personal anecdote aside,
I find it wild that the alleged partner of AM, who is an equine vet, reportedly AMâs vet, and also reportedly a long-time student of AM, would be clueless as to what has reportedly been going on for the better part of a decade. Thatâs all.
Right, but the videos are months old. Part of PDFâs statement was that their horses were âsafe at home with us.â Ergo, their horse wasnât in Andrewâs barn when the videos became public.
