Jingles for Cooper, and for Bo to become more of a chow hound!
C’mon, Cooper!
Oh my goodness. Jingling hard for Cooper
Isn’t it ironic?
No news from the vet yet. I don’t need to tell you guys that I’ve had enough vet bills already this year so I hope this resolves quickly.
Bo was looking mildly hungry this AM, so at least that’s something! But it’s supposed to be in the 90s again today.
I dunno if it will help, but I’ve used rubbing alcohol mixed w water to sponge or spray on hot horses. The alcohol evaporates more quickly than water, supposedly helping the horse cool off more quickly than plain water. Maybe useful for situations where one can’t stand there running cool water on the horse.
No news is good news from the vet I bet!
Sending jingles for Cooper!
How has his worming protocol been? The bots were particularly bad last year.
Checking in on Cooper! Any news?
More jingles for Cooper
Just got off the phone with the vet a few minutes ago.
He has passed two piles. He’s resting comfortably, no rolling or agitation, all bloodwork/vitals are normal. They tubed him again this morning with Assureguard. She is now able to advance further on rectal exam into the small colon, things are clearing out but she said a few bands still seem a little constricted. She also believes that he may have displaced his large colon yesterday but the impacted small colon was preventing her from feeling it at the time.
It sounds like she would like to keep him another night for observation, and in case they need to push more fluids if he doesn’t fully clear it out. I asked about the cost of that, because I am fully capable of watching him round the clock - I am obviously not equipped to be tubing fluids, but if he’s drinking adequately it doesn’t sound like they will be doing much more than I can do at home. And I can always take him back if he takes a turn for the worse. I’m on the fence honestly, waiting to hear back on a $ quote for another night’s stay. Between Bo and my senior dog’s cancer diagnosis, this has already been an expensive year
There’s a “BOfundme” ready to launch whenever you let us.

The COTH Aunties Squadron stands ready!
Generally boarding at a clinic is the least costly thing they do
IIWM, I’d leave him, in case things go Suddenly South.
Take him home after a completely uneventful 24h.
For both of you!
Still jingling for Cooper!
Thank you all!
Just a quick no update update - he is staying another night, and the estimate was not too costly. She feels that he is likely still slightly displaced and wants the opportunity to do another rectal exam in the AM. I should hear from her after that, and assuming things are progressing positively still, he should be able to come home for refeeding and monitoring.
I forgot I took a picture of him last night while we were waiting for the vet to come back.
He was a most excellent boy for all the exams and probing - really amazing, considering that I have no idea if he’s ever been in a trailer let alone to a vet clinic (the people I got him from bought him from another neighbor). He was a little wide eyed at first but very brave and level headed. He’s a really good egg.
I’ll keep the curb chains JINGLING!
Both for Cooper to come home & for Bo to get Hongry!
Sunday morning jingles for Cooper!
Just got off the phone with the vet - things are looking good, they are going to try re-feeding him this morning and I am scheduled to pick him up late this afternoon (hopefully not in the middle of a thunderstorm). I am going to rearrange some of my extra panels today to divide Elmo’s giant stall in two so I have a proper observation area for him for a few more days.
Bo is still trucking along, giving me the hairy eyeball because he wants alfalfa even though he can’t chew it, still sort of cleaning up his soaked cubes and senior but not always. Maybe it’s time to mix it up and either add in a bit of something I know he likes (Ultium) or try out one of the few complete feeds left on the market that I didn’t try in the first round (Tribute, Kent, SafeChoice, maybe one other). If the weather cooperates tomorrow, I’ll get him out for a ride around the property since I got the full perimeter path mowed the other day. Right now the 10 day forecast is ~50% chance of thunderstorms every. single. day. I am also going to do some updated Monday progress pics, as I’m noticing his topline is finally bulking up and he’s actually got some meat around his withers now.
Fingers crossed for a non eventful discharge for Cooper!
