Indeed, you might
This is my mini @ 4yo.
I got him as a 2yo & he’d never been ponied.
Driving Club was posing for a group pic, changed location & I didn’t want to walk to the new place (or have time to harness & drive there).
Friend asked me if he’d pony, I said let’s find out :grimacing:

Ntl Drive used the pic on their FB page & someone commented:
They never give you a full size spare!

I just laughed way too hard at that. Thanks, I needed that. Lovely horse in front too.

Thanks
That’s friend’s FriesianX.
We told her she can’t drive in front of us, because everyone goes “Ooooh!” :open_mouth:
She countered saying I can’t go as I get all the “Aaawwwwws” :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

And just like that, it’s been six months (and some days). I have successfully, fully transitioned Bo to eating 16lb of soaked alfalfa cubes, plus 6lb of Ultium (also soaked) per day. He did lose some weight in the process, because I had to slowly build up to that amount while decreasing his senior, but I expect he will put it back on over the next few weeks (and he is still far from skinny). He’s just not as filled out in his topline currently.

This morning, I finished the laborious task of fencing and subdividing another bigger pasture. I have one more to do, and then that will be all for now - which will provide solo summer turnouts for the entire herd.

Bo and Cooper were the chosen ones to test the new fields out; the ponies are more mischievous and I haven’t actually hooked up the fence charger yet (forgot ground rods…). Plus fat ponies don’t need more grass. LOL

Snoozing in paddock this morning

Checking out the new fields

Advising me that his water tub must be 3’ from the fence or he won’t touch it :roll_eyes:

Mmmm…

Savoring the taste of water from a freshly bleach-scrubbed water tub - it gets them every time

I wish they’d talk to my 3 :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
I dump, scrub, add a dollop of bleach & refill.
Then, while I stand sweatily admiring the pristine new water…
All 3 drink the mucky stuff from the puddle where I dumped!
Horses! :expressionless:

Awestruck at the 6 Month results :open_mouth:

He is looking fabulously there, snoozing away in a pretty green field in a warm, sunny day. :grinning:

I took a moment to skim through his original posts and updates. I guess fresh water is now considered fine champagne since he used to only drink from mud puddles! Only the best for our boy.

Fern does not appreciate the bleach smell, but the others are generally intrigued by it. My dear departed OTTB would stand there and lick the side of the freshly bleached tub with a glazed over look :joy: Bo drank quite a bit more yesterday, so I may have to bleach his tubs more often! He makes such a mess out of his water with dropping food in it that it gets dumped pretty much daily, so it stays pretty clean. @Displaced_Yankee there are no puddles left to drink from! Otherwise I’m sure he would be slurping them down :joy:

I am ever so impatiently still waiting for my fly sheets. They have “shipped”, but UPS does not actually have them yet. I should’ve ordered from Smartpak or RW instead of SLT… but my last couple orders from them have come super fast, so I thought it would be fine. Hopefully they will be here by the end of the week.

Big Booty Pony rides… he’ll lead line all day. He’s a little too mischievous to be turned loose in the wide open with a complete beginner though, he thought he might just take himself back to the stall if nobody minded. :joy: I need a round pen and kid-sized saddle!

The appendix I had as a teen regularly tried to be rid of me, but was a saint with younger children. Lead little kids around in a boring circle for a birthday party? Absolutely! Trot circle under saddle with teen rider without trying out for the rodeo? Nope. Thankfully Bo seems to have a MUCH better temperament!

I had a 13 hand pony like that when I was a kid. She loved small children, tried to dump anyone over the age of 12 as soon as she could. Taught me how to stick a buck.

I attribute most of my survival instincts to that horse.

Re: forelock cutting: Neighbors kind of new to horses had a couple of backyard ponies. They rode over one day. I was on my deck at about horsehead-level and noticed Sue’s horse had little Dutch girl bangs instead of a forelock. She’d cut the forelock right straight across because she thought it was bugging her horse! It looked so funny, and so stupid!

In my barn, forelock cutting is one of the most blasphemous things you could do :flushed: Fern currently has the most voluptuous forelock in the herd, and I would probably have a heart attack if someone cut it a la Moe from the Three Stooges. I cringe at even cutting in a bridle path, but for the hairy ones it’s a necessary evil. Manes, however, I have no problem trimming up or even roaching when it suits (Elmo). Tails are properly banged to somewhere between mid-cannon and fetlock, depending on the time of year and what looks best. Bo’s hair is so sparse that it really hasn’t been necessary to give him a bridle path, but it is probably time to trim his scraggly mane up again. He certainly wasn’t blessed with hair genes, his tail still isn’t even remotely long enough to need trimming. :joy:

I haven’t gotten out of my PJs yet, but here’s a picture from yesterday afternoon that made me chuckle:

So far the fly sheets seem to be a hit. Horses are a little sweatier under the shoulder lining, but I’ve noticed they are moving around more and doing less standing around looking pissed about the bugs/heat. There were some sizing issues - I assumed the blanket that Cooper came with fit him, so ordered that same size and it is WAY too big, so if anybody needs an 84" Rambo w/ no fly zone, lmk  Cooper should fit in the 78 that Bo is wearing, and Bo could stand to go down to the 75 that’s on Elmo (and is a titch big), so I ordered a fourth size, a 72, which should fit Elmo just right. If I can’t re-sell the 84, I suppose I will just keep it for the inevitable future horse that might be extra large

No, no never sell or give away a blanket that is anywhere close to fitting something you have. Or might have in the future in the unlikely event it does not get put into service as a replacement due to shenanigans or wear and tear.
