Bo is looking so good! And you have a handsome herd of redheads (he is a red bay!).
I think Bo is secretly writing a book, How to Annoy Your Human While Still Being Endearing.
He is obsessed with drinking from this green tub. Next time I dump waters I am going to swap his pink tub for this green one and see if it’s the tub color, or if he just likes ‘stealing’ from Elmo. Elmo won’t care either way.
As a mother of a 4 year old, you are heard. There is nothing worse than the day that the Blue cup is in the dishwasher and you are asked to drink out of the Red cup. Unless, of course, someone else wants the Red cup…
I have an old gelding that definitely prefers to drink out of anything colored blue. If it is a bucket or a tub of a different color, he will sniff it and walk away. I’m sure if he were truly thirsty, he would drink out of the offending colors, but all things being equal, nah.
So of course I make sure his blue bucket and tub are always full.
I’m pretty sure it’s the tub color. I have a green tub and a pink tub and if given access, both of my horses will prefer the green tub and will only drink from the pink if the green is empty.
My Appaloosa (years ago) had a favorite yellow bucket. We laughed at first, but he definitely drank more from that on.
I chuckle at the notion of a horse having a color preference for their bucket, then remember I have a favorite burner on the stove top and my favorite pillow on the bed ( its name is Pippo)
My vote is also for the color being the factor.
One of my horses (owned him for decades) had a decided preference for blue, with green his second choice. He strongly disliked red or orange (never tried him with yellow, purple, or pink). Only used blue or green buckets with him.
I have one that won’t drink out of a red or yellow bucket, give him a blue or green bucket and he drinks just fine. They all drink out of the black Rubbermaid tank with no issues.
Horses are weird.
I think there was research that said horses prefer to drink out of turquoise buckets. Not kidding!
This pretty much sums it up.
First, the green tub turns out not to be special. What’s special is that Elmo keeps his water very clean, and so stealing from one’s neighbor continues. Because the water is always cleaner on the other side of the fence. Even though I’ve added a special third bucket to his wall lineup just for mouth-rinsing (which he does use) so his own tub stays cleaner for actual drinking, Elmo’s water is and forever will be tastier. Whatever.
I thought since I haven’t done an “official” Monday picture day in a while, it was probably time. He’s pretty impressed with himself.
Come November and his 1 year anniversary, we will do something special. Perhaps an official photo shoot. Perhaps I will dress him up like a turkey and throw him a party. Perhaps I’ll take him to some sort of show just to say we did. Perhaps he will unceremoniously dump me in a mud puddle to commemorate the occasion Who knows. But we’re gonna do something to celebrate it.
Lookin’ good, Bo! Dang, look at that butt. Can’t wait to see what your anniversary celebration is!
Hard to believe it is the same horse! I look forward to your ‘celebration.’ Bo does have an odd sense of humor, so it will be fun to see what comes of it!
Wait a sec…Bo is stealing the cleaner water from his neighbor? Didn’t he originally only drink from mud puddles?
My horse has me trained to use a aquarium fish net to take the bits of hay and alfalfa out of his water muck bucket every time I’m out there (the bucket is dumped and cleaned twice daily, so the net is for the in-between times).
And, I just changed his previous dark blue water muck bucket for a lighter, brighter blue one (that classic Fortiflex blue) last night, and he’s drinking even more water. Coincidence?
He may be the most sensible, mannerly horse I own 99% of the time, but he’s also the most likely to experience a ‘YEEHAW!’ moment and take off crowhopping unexpectedly
Yes, he is stealing from Elmo’s water. Even when I dump and refill both tubs at the same time, Elmo’s is still better. I’m not sure where puddles rank on the water taste scale these days
Maybe his tastes have improved a bit now that he has learned there will always be availability.
Nowhere to be found……he must have given up and got desperate.
Bo bo bo bo BOOTY Bo
Bootylicious Bo.
He has such a nice bum .
