Anybody know their TB's racing name?

My new guy’s racing name was “Joyous Jester” – raced about 25 times, won around $80k. Bred in Maryland and finished his career up at Delaware Park. He is 6 now and I am hoping that he will become a kickass eventer – so far, his awesome brain appears to have no limits!

Boundary Zone…Saras Whit…Heart of a Viking…Ima Mary Viking…Smashem and Bashem…Strip Search…Lot O Sun… Munch…Zale…What A Scoundrel…El Privado…Pokers Pride…Ima Lamarche…Stage the Storm…to name a few!

I am sad to inform you your horse was pretty much an abject failure at the track, 6 starts, never made third, though did win a whopping $252  (raced at Portland Meadows and Grants Pass)
Don’t feel bad Jane, one of mine raced 22 times and never broke his maiden.

Anyone know Bartender Michael? He raced at Thistledown. He was a '96 model.

I realize this may be a long shot, but I now own Be Mine Tonight. Aged 18yrs and doing very well. Residing in Rhode Island! I wanted to get a bit more background on him if possible. Just curiosity of his past. Happy to say he’s no longer a pasture pet and is being quite the school master for me  Has been enjoying and excelling in dressage. Sad to admit Im not brave enough to jump him, he’s still got it though! Lol

Yes - Be Mine Tonight won one of the New York Stallion Stakes races at Belmont. He is a smallish chestnut gelding with a snip. Bred, owned and raced by the late PG Johnson who also trained Volponi. Quite an impressive pedigree as well. (not that it mattered) We had him here for several years - jumping fool, but the dressage was never his cup of tea and he was a hard horse to ride. We still own him, he is leased to a young lady in Massachusetts who wanted to try to sort him out - and unfortunately old “track damage” caught up with him and he is now enjoying life as a pasture ornament up there. My son evented him here under the name Bossa Nova.

And now for a round of “it’s a small world after all”. . . .
I have a Kris S too. Illustrious Kiss - 2002. Ran at Belmont, Aqueduct and Saratoga. He also has a fantastic work ethic and is wicked cute. Couldn’t ask for a better personality in a horse.

Ours is fun b/c he’s really well bred.

Sphinx - Kris S. x Inreality Star by Inreality

Inreality Star threw Breeders cup and Eclipse winner Meadow Star and Optic Nerve.

Kris S. produced something like 60 million in winnings, five breeders cup winners, three eclipse winners… notables include Action this day, Rock Hard 10, Brocco, Hollywood Wildcat, Symboli Kris S (two time japan horse of the year and 8 million dollar winner), Prized, Kissin Kriss, Dr Fong and Soaring Softly (Among others).

We didn’t know anything a/b him when we went to buy him… no name, no nothing. He didn’t win much, but he’s got MAJOR work ethic… .and looks pretty to boot

Miss Annhilator ( aka Annie) who annihilated absolutely nothing at the track, retired after a couple dismal starts and no winnings. Her full brothers name is even worse: Awesome Chicken.
Nor Mac ( now Norm) had 26 starts for just under 26k. He did break his maiden for one win, but mostly he was a 4 th place finisher, always just dribbling in enough to try starting again. He just came off the track at the end of October, so an OTTB project we just got.
There were 5 others in the past, 4 of known pedigree. One had no papers and an illegible tattoo.
I have 2 other Tbs here too, sport bred and not off track.
White Waterlily and Bronze Medallist.

I knew this horse around 2009/2010. What a small world. He was such a good boy. He would do these tricks, such as kisses for treats. Rode him a few times. He had a head tossing issue, does he still have that? Such a sweet boy. Good luck with him. I knew him as Devon.

Cool thread!

I bought So It Goes from judybigredpony and still have him. He’s a saint.
Before that I had Fairly Handsome - Md bred Entropy son.
And my first TB was Tubby Tom - bought him off the track in '91 as an entire 9 yo. He wasn’t big but was sure a classy horse.

My very first horse was an incredible TB named Patent Leather. If he raced at all, he was not successful from what I heard, but he went on to be an eventer, show jumper, then a PSG-trained dressage schoolmaster. He was really one in a million. When he was about 18 or 19 he broke his leg in a pasture accident and had to be PTS. :frowning: I can’t remember exactly but I believe he would have been born somewhere around 1982-1984.

Zydeco Blue - 17 now. Bought him a seven year old at SD.

My Vernon (Stage Right in my Profile pic) was quite "O"TTB - never tattooed as he washed out in training as a 2yo.
BUT:
I have a pic of him ponying at the Arlington Million, circa 1986-7ish.
He was by a gray stallion named Winds of Winter & trainer who sold him to me said they would have registered him as Wings of Winter… if he had possessed any ability to run
They kept him on as a pony horse - a job he hated as evidenced by flat-pinned ears in the Million pic.

If anyone has worked with Dave or Bonnie Kassen (out of Arlington in IL & Gulfstream in FL) ask them about Vernon.
They got him started on his Hunter career in KY - won a Pre-Green championship - and then I got him as a 6yo.

He may have been a failure racing, but he could jump with his knees in his ears & enough crack-his-back bascule to rule out being an EQ ride.

My girl is registered and raced as “Notable Radar”

He still does his kisses, treats or no treats. ??? Still known as Devon or Devin but is shown under JC name be mine tonight. He truly is such a sweet boy. I did have some issues the first couple years owning him trying to figure him out. Hooked up with a great trainer and he is doing amazingly! He’s just so sensitive he can become “bridle lame” if micro managed to much. I appreciate him so much for all he’s taught and is still teaching me. I never would have thought in a million years I would be where I am as a rider today! He’s a great teacher!
DEFINITELY remember Be Mine Tonight. He was a NY horse and I’m pretty sure he won a stakes race? Don’t remember the Hoosier baby but I was Pistols and Roses’ hotwalker in 1992 at Gulfstream!
Wow. I am old…
Stumbled on this thread due to curiosity and bordom lol I now own Be Mine Tonight, would you happen to have any fun info or stories on him? I adore my goofy guy. Always fun piecing together the puzzles and learning new things

I remember you!!! I got “Patty” from D. Michael Smithwick in 1989, he was a foal of 1984. He was an absolute star. We won our first event at baby novice 5 weeks after I bought him. It was an early unrecognized event at New Market Middletown Hounds in Md.

He was with me 3+ years. We did very well and enjoyed doing jumpers in the summers. He was a wonderful horse except he was tough with water jumps. Mixed results because of that. I sold him to a kid to do Pony club/event but his “issues” with water jumps continued and they decided to try to switch to dressage which he always rocked at. He progressed up the levels and was a reliable horse that was pretty impressive in his results. He was appropriately named as except for being seal brown on his nose, he was a true jet black.

Here’s one of the videos of him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eQGcYOTfZ8

I have more but I would need to upload them to YT.

I have Royal Autumn (Royal Academy x Autumn Slew). He’s a handsome chestnut, 16hh. Amazing horse! Very athletic, handy and a terrific jumper! Love him soooo much!

My girl is “A True Angel.” I love her.

This is incredible, thank you so much! I really enjoyed watching that video of Pat as a young man. What a super canter he had. It’s so cool to know where he came from. Was he trained to steeplechase?

My parents bought him for me from the girl you sold him to, Christine, in 1997 when I was 11. I got most of my Bronze Medal scores on him and we went to Pony Club nationals for dressage one year. He taught me so much and I was so lucky to have him! He had been offered to another girl my age first but her mother was a bit of a snob and only wanted a warmblood…their loss, my gain.

We did dabble in some eventing and you’re so right about the water jumps! I remember spending an entire hour schooling the one at Bittersweet Field. We did one or two events though and won a BN division at Menfelt on our dressage score. I remember him being so enthusiastic about XC that he galloped around the entire course at warp speed  but his dressage was perfect as always.

My biggest challenge with him was trail rides. He bucked me off and galloped home alone so many times that the barn staff would just close him in his stall and wait for me to walk back. I guess I didn’t tell my parents about any of this or they would have told me to quit riding out!

I don’t have any videos digitized but here are a couple pictures of us showing USDF shows in 1999 (we won the 1st level Jr/YR regionals that year):
