Badminton;

I’m watching the start of CC yesterday and they have taken out all of Nicola’s ride, jfyi. You have Tom’s ride and scary fall, Ros Canter and Ollie on course and then the hold. Not that I wanted to see it, im just noting that her entire ride is scrubbed.

I saw plenty of her earlier fences watching the replay just now? They did take out the fall and fences coming up to it.

I’m just at that part too. They really did cut all of it

Has she completed a 5* recently? I like her but, I might have missed her name, I didn’t see her at FHI 5*, Kentucky and now Badminton.

Her 5* horse was injured. She came in 1st and 7th in the 4* at Kentucky.

Watching Ollie & Swallow Springs thru the Quarry in slow mo….wow I have no idea how he stayed on!

Strange, I watched it this morning and her ride was all there? Only her fall and Maxime Livio’s fall were edited out, and rightly so imo

There is a 2022 Badminton falls video on YouTube. It is very hard to watch how punishing the falls were. Tom McEwen was very lucky. Cathal Daniels had an angel on his shoulder for sure. Seeing Nicola Wilson limp and still was chilling. I’ll take Kentucky and Derek, thanks.

They have her early fences where she looked decent, and then nothing leading up to the fall, or the fall itself. I did FF through the hold so I don’t know if they talked about it

After jumping - so far.

Did I mess up the time? Isn’t it time for the livestream Top 20 to start?

in 20 minutes

The livestream should pick back up for jumping at 10:30 Eastern. Radio Badminton is on, playing interviews with sponsors and riders.

I had to avert my eyes watching some of those falls and yet many more horses were successful than not. Crazy sport.

I tend to think the US is 2nd tier among world eventing nations, and that is where we are going to stay. Occasionally, we may hit on the right combination of pairs to make it onto a podium, but being a contender every time we field team on the world stage, nope. I don’t think our national organizations are ever going to get their act together enough to make that happen. I think the WEG team will probably be the Tokyo team with the exception of DP replacing Vandiver with Quantum Leap. Assumes Z, Tseterleg, and Mai Baum are good to go - how likely is that?

is it a team of 4 for WEG vs 3 for Olympics?

Does the livestream look a little wonky for anyone else?

PD is a consistent performer, but when was the last time he was on / near the podium at a 5* or Olympics or WEG? (genuine question, not meant snarky)

he is also 58 y.o. how much longer does he want to risk his body at this sport.

Assuming Tamie’s and Ariel’s horses are sound and fit, i think both of them should be on the team ahead of PD. They are your future, and are likely to perform as well as PD.

and hey, if the US doesn’t value Tamie or Ariel, Canada would be happy to adopt them.

He was the last American to medal at the Olympics (in 2016).
