Michael has a sister, Susan Barisone Gilson. Are they estranged or is she among those that are supporting him? I don’t know if she is still riding, but once a long time ago I inquired about a sales horse she had. She was an excellent rider.

She has been at the trial several days.

LK wasn’t leaving because she’s a squatter who knows her rights. Barisone should have had a lease. If she’d violated the terms of the lease, it would have been much easier to get her out. I get it, Knights_Mom – you think that if a person is horrible enough and making someone’s life miserable, they deserve ANYTHING they get. That’s an emotional argument, not a legal argument. I hope all those men on the jury are emotional decision makers for Barisone’s sake. They might just find him NGI, so maybe he will get the help he really, really needs.

Simring’s expert testimony is that MB lost his $hit completely when the DCPP worker showed up to question MHG. Period.

Sooooo … if the jury reviews that tomorrow… and believes Simring’s testimony… the decision to get the gun out of the safe and everything that happened at the house? NGI.

I don’t see the purported amnesia from his injuries as relevant to the jury’s deliberations. The amnesia, or lack of it, if we believe the prosecution, does not prove or disprove the claim of insanity before the shooting.
The amnesia is cited as the reason he can’t testify to the particulars of the confrontati on. But the judge has ruled the jury cannot consider self defense based on alternate scenarios. And the defendant’s refusal to testify cannot be considered as indicating guilt or innocence.

It was not anyone in the trial. It was some random YouTube or webcast guy who talks about the legal work that other people do in trials.

He has a following of 2nd amendment rights guys.

I can appreciate this comment as well. Except that you replied to me questioning paying RG $50,000 just to get them to leave, the. Trying to sue him to get back $50,000 later.

I’ve listened to the whole trial. Seen the pictures of the farmhouse. Listened to Mike McGrain’s testimony that it was actually him who performed 70-80% of the tile work.

I listened to RG testify that he only did enough work to trade for the extra board expenses for the extra horse, then he stopped working.

I listened to RGs testimony that he “slipped” and used drugs “a few times” in the summer of 2019.

I myself have done substantial renovations on homes and personal barns over the course of the last decade. I have a very good idea of how much various things cost - drywalling, electrical work, etc. For big renovations, and smaller jobs.

And I have seen LKs posts here, from September of 2019, that claim that in August of 2019, MB owed RG $50,000 for work RG had done, and MB didn’t want to pay it, and that was part of the reason for the shooting.

Was LK simply $hitposting again back in September of 2019? Definitely. But… she was also claiming on Facebook in AUGUST of 2019, if I recollect correctly, that RG was owed money for Reno’s, and that is part of why they “couldn’t” leave.

I gotta say… anyone with half a noggin can look at this collection of testimony, facts, and prior social media statements by LK, and deduce that she and RG attempted to shakedown MB for money that RG was NOT owed.

That isn’t because of a lack of contracts, or some sort of fuzzy misunderstanding. That’s because RG has a criminal record, and saw an opportunity, and behaved like a criminal and tried to squeeze MB for cash.

I think MOST people would refuse to make a pay off of $50,000 to a total criminal in a situation like that… because there was no guarantee that even if MB paid, RG and LK would go. They have a record of squatting in more than one situation, I do believe. At least, that’s what I’ve read.

And given the lack of any contract, and the lack of actual work product, and a lot of other details like the lack of a contractors license, etc, RG was never going to win A legal action against MG demanding $50,000 in payment.

My point was that even in the best of circumstances when all parties are honest and well intentioned, if the nitty gritty details are not hammered out and agreed upon, it is human nature that each party interprets the “deal” in a way that is more advantageous to themselves. That’s why real estate contracts are 30 pages long.

Even with the most honest and well intentioned people entering into these deals, lack of detailed, written agreements often leads to very bad feelings when the inherent conflicts which had been submerged by the lack of clarity suddenly emerge.

If you’re dealing with people who are known to try to take advantage, then it’s all the more imperative that everything is spelled out, or else you avoid creating additional financial deals altogether.

One poster, who has since disappeared, said that she had trained with Barisone around 2015 or so, and had a talented PSG horse that MB wanted to campaign himself. She did not agree to his campaigning the horse, and she said Barisone had the horse shipped to Florida without her knowledge or consent anyway. She subsequently took her horse out of training with him. She said she was afraid of Barisone and considered him dishonest. The posts have been erased.

On the renovations, MB was the property owner and principal who decided to skip getting permits, and entered into a sloppy agreement without a written contract with an unlicensed handyman. He’d known LK and RG for well over a year at that point, so would have known of RGs work ethic and drug issues. That’s a situation that anyone could predict would end badly. Most people would not predict that it would end up with someone almost dying, though.

He had hired security to keep an eye on the place; if all the people who testified about what a mess he was mentally in the days before the shooting really cared about him, they would have gotten him out of there for at the very least, a nice relaxing vacation somewhere for a few days or a week. If they REALLY cared about him, they would have gotten him professional help. That’s what people who care do for someone they see having a complete emotional breakdown. MB was clearly in no shape to handle anything at the time; several people close to him testified under oath to that fact. And yet they just let him stay in the same place/situation and let him go so insane that he shot a person. Who does that??

Perhaps they tried to get him out of there but he didn’t want to leave because it was his farm, his business, his problem. And since he is a grown man, I don’t know how they could have FORCED him to leave.

Who are “all the people who love LK”? Her father and whatever RG is were heavily involved with the destroy Barisone plan. So, who else? Did any of her sm “friends” insist that she leave, or did they laugh and ramp up the posts laughing with their Gerdie? Come on, who are these people who should have dragged her away kicking and screaming??? Seriously?

EDIT - This was not directed at @Knights_Mom, but if anyone can answer this burning question, many would love to hear the response!

She had several people saying they would come get her and her horses and to please be careful.

So, if that fear didn’t prompt him to relocate, why would we believe those SAME fears provoked him to get a gun and go shoot someone?

Barisone got himself in the squatter mess. It’s awful. I feel sorry for his predicament, but I don’t believe he had a right to shoot her. Bilinkas argued an insanity defense – because he did shoot her. It was criminal and insanity is their only way of explaining what happened.

Threatening someone (even if they are your tenants) can get you barred from the property.
I had a friend get barred from his property when the deal he had with tenants (which partially included work exchange) went south. The tenants got a court order barring the land owner from the property. That property wasn’t his primary residence though.

Excuse me??? He didn’t choose to stay in jail. During one of the hearings Taylor remarked they were quickly approaching the release date if the trial had not started by then (there’s a name/term for it that I’ve forgotten). Bilinkas told Taylor if that date arrived, Michael wanted to stay in jail. Taylor said he’d never heard of such a thing and didn’t know if that could happen. Regardless, the trial began before that date came. Apparently Michael is still quite terrified of RG/LK based on his demeanor during their testimony.

I feel certain he will be very securely protected from harm for a long time should he be released.

I remember that he was eligible for pre-release at two years, about the same time they offered a plea deal. He turned both down I think at the same hearing.

I think that at the point that two years had elapsed since the original trial date, then he would be released. The original trial date was June 2020, so he would be eligible for release in June 2022 if the trial had not taken place.

So saying he didn’t want to be released in June 2022 isn’t that big a deal, given that the trial was scheduled to take place before then.

I dunno. I’m tired of the world pretending that “words are just words” and what is said doesn’t matter but physical attacks somehow do. You can cause damaging emotional harm to another with words. When will we start to “get” that?

Look at all the teen and child suicides over “words” and teasing. People discount mental health. They want to see bruises and bleeding and broken people, but sometimes people are broken by others in places we can’t see. It doesn’t mean it’s not as damaging.

Perhaps the world would be a better place if people were actually held accountable for their threats? And if you throw around public threats to the point that a person finally responds that it’s the equivalent of taunting and throwing the first punch? I’d be fine with that. Also, the police should have responded. Why they didn’t I have no idea. Did they discount him assuming he has mental health issues? I will never understand their refusal to help. Horrific. Did they write him off as a delusional person? I’m so curious.

Anyway, having family members with significant mental health issues has shaped and changed my thinking. Words matter. Threats (verbal or otherwise) should matter, too. Imagine how the situation would be different if there was some accountability for all those 19,000 pages of nasty posts. With boundaries and accountability LK may have actually been a better citizen of the world and she might even be in this forum with all of us talking about horses instead of this tragedy. We will sadly never know.

Someone mentioned selling the horse for $40,000 and a lifetime (or an indefinite period) of free board.

I haven’t been able to watch much of the testimony, so I am genuinely curious if the specifics of that arrangement came from both sides, or just one side. Anyone care to enlighten me?

I would serve a demand to vacate early on, and if there were trouble, get a restraining order from a court.

Yes, and she also posted that she went back to train with him a second time. He must not have been that cruel, huh? The information I received about the horse going to FL was it was a simple miscommunication between the woman and Barisone.
