Eta, but if the shooting seemed to come from homes I don’t normally hear it, my ears might perk up.
There’s a hunting preserve nearby, so I am aware of where its coming from, or seems unusual… in case some city weekend warrior loses their way and ends up hunting property not on that preserve, for example.

Am I the only one who thinks that sounds like bad advice from the dispatcher? Especially if he was still the only cop on the scene at that point, and already trying to deal with three people on site by himself?
Actually, it sounded like during the call, the second police car arrives with lights flashing, and when the dispatcher learns there are now 3 LEO on scene, he then tells the neighbor to take himself out of there.

Got it - glad you did so. Yes, it’s a shame that day couldn’t be rewound to just before 1 pm and a different outcome for all parties.
Purely guessing that there was probably a lot of noise like people screaming, barking, shots.

True statement.
My own property backs up to a very large farm that the farmer has given permission to several people to hunt, plus several of my neighbors either target shoot or hunt. Three shots would likely not even register to me. Maybe in only a “there better not be anybody who lost track of the property line again” way - as that has been a problem in the past with the hunters on the farm. I’ve been accused of “ruining” opening day for guys who set their stands on the very edge of the farm - essentially on my property line. It did not go well for them when I reminded them that I OWN the property on which I was standing and I’ll use it in any way I see fit, including running a radio at full volume all day long if they cannot be more respectful.
We finally had to talk to the farmer, and he put a stop to it - some guys lost their privileges, others made sure to stay waaaay on the other side of the farm.
But three shots? Would not have even made me think twice that something was wrong until the police started showing up. But I don’t live in that area of NJ, maybe it is much more unusual there.
well, it also was in early August. I don’t think anything is in season.
I think you can tell though if the shots are close or far off, and if it is a pistol vs rifle.
It wasn’t weird in the common sense truthfulness of the statement…but I remember it being weird in the greater context of the post because of the statement being made alongside it….
I don’t believe hunting season starts until September.
This has nothing to do with much of this discussion, but by weird coincidence a (nice small) horse with the same name as IM’s name here is for sale; a friend happened to send me the link. Dont know if the seller is this person but it could seem possible. It is certainly not the horse that is posting here, lol .
And a small vent - there have been a number of posts referencing the “murder(s)”. Last I knew there was attempted murder but no one thankfully was actually killed.
And a pondering: if MB said he wanted to stay in jail, I wonder how emotionally stable he is…it struck me as a comment that reflects fear, uncertainty, inability to deal with the real world, dunno.
Before season is when everyone practices.
Maybe the people in my part of the world are weird, but there is really no time that shooting makes me think something is wrong. Middle of winter when it is too miserable out there to be doing much I guess we would probably comment if we heard someone shooting.
Now…where I work, in a very urban environment, gun shots get attention.
IM is a pretty well known movie character so likely not related to the person posting here.
Though the mental image of a horse trying to type on a keyboard with their hooves does make me giggle.

the house is gone, income dried up, and lord knows what or who lurks in the shadows. It should not be read as admission of guilt though, as some want to make believe.
On a broader note though, incarceration while awaiting trial does disrupt lives, and in many cases irreperable.

It would be an entertaining mental exercise to think about what sort of sale ad a horse might write about himself.
