And/or because she loved being the “doyenne” of Hawthorne Hill Farm. She could tell everyone, “I live at Hawthorne Hill Farm, and my trainer is MB, the Olympic rider and trainer.” She could use her “favored status” to lord it over his other clients, the staff, the farriers, the vets, show managers, other competitors, etc. So it was about recognition and self-aggrandizement - and delusions of grandeur.

But, I thought when they were in Florida she did not live on the property, so clearly that requirement only was at this facility.

She has the apartment/crash pad on the farm in FL. I don’t know why she couldn’t spend the night there.

They were off-site when they were initially staying in FL before relocating to NJ to be with MB, being that it was a seasonal rental, paid for by the father, as part of his payments for her “equestrian pursuits”. The supposed apartment on the farm is at the new place in FL, [edit]

Not always. A friend has epilepsy and it took x years of taking meds and having no seizures before a driver’s license could be procured. Not suggesting that is Lauren’s issue!

Nah, she would wait until late, late night, don her Ninja outfit and prowl around at night. There are other properties in close proximity that more than likely have all sorts of security, so she would have to be very stealthy. /s

I have the perfect disguise for her. A Boulder. She scampers a few feet then sets down and rests. Then a few feet more. Rests. Easy hide for recording devices when someone sits on you to smoke a cigarette too.

And best part is, easy to take naps when necessary, all tucked away inside your boulder.

Well, this turned out to be a very disappointing thread. I was looking forward to “Update” but instead it turned into a rerun from the closed thread. Why posters respond to some of the allegations here is beyond me. I read the first 100 posts and just scrolled through the next 300. Reading the same comments over and over is like banging your head against the wall.

It will probably not be long before this thread gets closed.

Lauren’s taste for mahogany walled, chandelier lighted rings is relatively new. The highly rated, and always full with a wait list, facility she was at for several years in NC is a dusty, old, wooden, perfectly wonderful 60+ year old facility with a wooden indoor arena surrounded by 10×10 and 8x8 stalls on two exterior walls , 2 cold water wash pits, two covered wooden round pens, a large open outdoor ring used for all sorts of open shows (4-H, H/J, English, Western, no dressage), multiple huge pastures with several outbuildings for storage, etc. It is a perfectly marvelous facility in every way to most who board there. The horses are grained 2 times a day, provided with gorgeous NY hay while confined in their stalls, and turned out during the day in winter and night during summer. There are no grooms or extra personal care provided unless a boarder hires someone to perform the service.
LK’s requirements for certain amenities and decor/accommodation seems to have changed quickly once she moved her horses to Barisone Dressage. The comparison would be a nice Best Western to a Ritz Carlton IMO. I totally understand once you’ve been exposed to a grand facility environment one would want to stay or duplicate it if moving unless you felt you and your horses were in danger. A temporary/portable stall such as used at many horse shows would be perfectly suitable for short term emergency situations IMO. Truly afraid beggers can’t be too choosey!

No further discussion is necessary until MB has been released or a significant amount of time has passed. There simply isn’t anything overly relevant to discuss until that point, so talking about LK is really the only purpose any continued discussion will serve at this time.

I do have a question, if LK’s trainer quite who is doing the training rides on all of her horses? Are they not getting their regular training rides?

It seems that if they can live happily at their boarding barn in Florida without training rides they could have lived at any number of appropriate barns up north that were made available to her, until she found a trainer that made her happy.

Hi RND - I understand where you are coming from and there are certainly those of another persuasion that could look at how they are writing their rebuttal.

From what I have read of this trial, unfortunately, the case is not as clear as you (and I) might think of as proof of who shot the gun. It was a given that a gun was shot. And that there were three people involved - one of whom was injured. That is not, in itself, proof who shot who - just that a gun was shot and a person was injured.

How this happened is disputed - merely carrying a gun (or, indeed, waving it around) is not a crime in the USA. (It is where I live in NZ ) Whether or not MB shot the gun or it was accidently fired in a tussle or <> was not judged.

What was tried was that, IF MB did fire the gun, did he understand that it was (1) a crime and (2) he had intent to commit that crime. By being found " not guilty by reason of insanity" - which is a very high standard in any court in any country - the jury said that MB did not shoot LK.

I’ve been on a murder trial like this - and the steps were very very very clearly laid out by both the prosecution and the defence. Mine was “did they commit murder or manslaughter” and it all came down to whether or not the person intended to commit murder or not.

No, the jury did not say “MB did not shoot LK”. If they had been convinced of that, or even unconvinced that he shot her, he have been found NG instead of NGRI and would be not be in a psychiatric institution right now.

If MB had been found NG on all four counts, I wonder if they would still be doing an investigation now.

There are several true crime books out about the Brach heiress and Chicago organized crime. There is a book on the Calumet Farm-Wild Ride. There are a lot of articles killing horses for insurance, laundering drug money through horses, training methods mentioned by GM and BS that I was taught were wrong, there are all kinds.

Yes - but once again, you are twisting yourself into extreme pretzels for some reason to make excuses for her as to why LK could not be bothered to move the horses. She certainly had many opportunities to do so. She chose not to.

Once again, you imply that cases like the Brach mess you mentioned happen All The Time. You suggest that someone like GM would rush over to pole LK’s horses - I am not sure how that would even work on a dressage horse. Maybe GM better contact Paul Schokemohle about that. I remember back when he got caught poling - so you can add that one to your list.

You suggest that the mob surely would get involved, that someone might break a horse’s leg in a stall with a pipe… you seem to want it to be something that happens Every Single Day in Every Barn Everywhere - merely so you can make yet more excuses upon excuses.

Those horses could have enjoyed a very nice layover in some Less Than Olympic Training Barn In New Jersey that would be considered rather grand, perfectly acceptable, clean and safe by most of us lowly stall-cleaning riff-raff types out here who have managed and worked at assorted barns (as well as disciplines) for decades.

I have said and keep saying that she should have moved her horses. However, fears for her horses’ safety in a barn with deteriorating relations culminating in her being shot twice are reasonable. It wouldn’t have to be limited to fear of violence as neglect could be as deadly, empty water buckets, neglected small injuries that turn into cellulitis, a missed colic until it is too late.
