The jury found that the charge of attempted murder was proven. Period.
It then found he was not criminally liable because he was insane at the time of the shooting.
To keep arguing about alternate scenarios is ridiculous. It is like all the JFK conspiracy theories: the shots from the grassy knoll, etc.

If the jury decides to rule that way. Keep in mind that every social media post, every encounter with the law, all her drug use, etc. will be brought up and scrutinized during litigation. Civil suits are very different than criminal.

In a civil case, can more be brought out that puts doubt on how the shooting happened? Was the scuffle before, during, or after? Etc. All the things that got shut down in the criminal trial.

Yes…and all those emails, texts, and FB posts we kept getting hints of. The criminal trial was interested in protecting the victims history because it can prejudice the jury. A civil trial will have no such mandate to protect the parties involved.

I think that since the criminal case found he did shoot her, that the events leading up to it don’t matter. The insanity defense does not extend to civil liablity.
Her “stuff” will only be admissible in a suit brought by him for emotional distress.

But it would have nothing to do with any case the farm owners bring against him. And, note, I said if the farm owners did not know about the guns or had barred guns.

He was the farm owner, a partner in the LLC. I suspect given that he was a part owner the farm will drop their counter suits against him and focus on LK. I also suspect that since RC is supporting the SS reporting of LK that she may also drop her counter suits against MB and focus on LK.

what an excellent jury, I worked for 2 criminal lawyers in Texas for 22 years, and I never once had an insanity case. Courts ditched that option after John Hinkley Jr was granted insanity and sent to a fancy private mental hospital instead of prison for the rest of his life.

Coincidentally, in the Court TV clip posted upthread a bit, one of the legal talking heads was saying the last time she remembered a successful insanity defense was the John Hinckley case, which was about 40 years ago. And I think the other talking head before her did not even remember a single one.
