The class in question:

Definitely no shame in that. Itā€™s just the only mention of employment Iā€™ve ever seen by her. And it only lasted a week. Hard to extrapolate lost wages/future earnings from that.

Right, Iā€™m going to stick up for the NYT.

I do still think of them as the newspaper of record. Thereā€™s so much I love about the reporting, especially arts, food, travel, and literature. I understand the issues people have with them but, by comparison, I think they are still pretty upstanding.

I think someone misunderstood that it was LK riding hence the judges being afraid to give her a low score. It was MHG rinding and, I take it, she finished in the middle of a strong class in her first CDI.

I mean, lots of us remember that story clearly. But how many stories ago was it for the New York Times? Iā€™m thinking a lot. A lot, a lot.

Iā€™m sure they canā€™t function if they lose too much sleep over every single thing they publish that turned out to be not 100% accurate after more facts came to light years later.

Iā€™m sure youā€™re correct. But I donā€™t know how anyone who has been keeping up with the bare basics of the case could think that LK competed at GP, much less in a CDI.

I feel like there could be a lot of questions involved, and a lot of them involve hypothetical math.

But since the whole story was probably invented anyway, it may not be worth the time on the calculator. Lol.

Iā€™m reminded of the way Stephen Colbert pretends to use a calculator when any sort of numerical calculation comes up in his monologue.

Sloppy biased reporting is never excusable in my book.

I hate to tell you, but itā€™s now on your permanent record. I know because I saw it on the principalā€™s desk. There goes your chance to be elected to student government.

I donā€™t think itā€™s excusable. I think itā€™s just somewhat inevitable that they might get things wrong once in a while, based on the sheer numbers. Just like any other profession.

If theyā€™ve published 100,000 articles in the last three years (just to invent a number for the sake of argument), were there any mistakes in any of those articles? Probably.

But that still doesnā€™t put them on the same level as the National Enquirer. Or even your average, run of the mill newspaper.

I took the comment as a joke to mean that the judges were afraid to give MHG a low score due to the crowd support for MHG showing under the current circumstances.

I could be wrong about that, for sure.

I really only read it online now. I donā€™t even remember the last time I actually touched a physical copy of it.

But I remember so clearly the feeling of picking up the Sunday New York Times for years and knowing that I had a lot of reading material ahead of me, and that a pretty good percentage of it would be things that I would not read anywhere else.

Which I think is still true. I just donā€™t have to get newsprint all over my hands in the process anymore. Lol.

And right now, I am impatiently waiting for 9:00 AM so that I can send that article to my farrier. I did not want to send it to him when I found it late last night, but we were just discussing the other day how nothing is official until it appears in the New York Times. That was after I sent him the MB article that appeared in the Washington Post. Lol.

There are people donā€™t live on these threads and they shouldnā€™t be faulted for not knowing about some random post thatā€™s buried in a multi-thousand post thread that was closed months ago.

Hell, I pop in here pretty regularly and I had no idea that the person who keeps posting :snowflake: :snowflake: :snowflake: isnā€™t calling someone a snowflake but is referencing a movie. These threads move FAST, and now more than ever. I donā€™t even try to keep up anymore; I just donā€™t have that kind of time for this.

Congratulations to MH on her very respectable GP placing!

Many of is were taken aback at her post of joy over the verdict after her treatment and loyalty of Barisone after August 7, 2019. His true friends and loved ones rallied around him instead of abandoning him.

That said, I am glad she has been able to move on with her life. She is a beautiful rider who has a great future in the sport.

Agreed, and I actually donā€™t fault them. But their opening salvo could have been a ā€˜huh?ā€™ or a ā€˜sorry, what do you mean?ā€™ rather thanā€¦well, it was a rather aggressive first contact for a joke that missed the mark. Even stranger in that I was totally in support of their post! Rather than just question and sort out what I meant, I got the one-two punch (read for comprehension and projection :scream:)

I guess the first time I interact with a poster I try to go for something a little less incendiary. :woman_shrugging:

The story on the verdict on NBCā€™s Channel 4 New York couldnā€™t even get the names right, i.e. Michael Goodwin.

Remember those gloves they sold in New Yorker magazine specifically for reading the Times?

I just hope that she will let HIM move on now that he has the potential of being released soon. I really wish the best for him.

ETA I thought how she clarified how good he was to her children was wonderful.

Iā€™m sorry to say I donā€™t remember that. I would have loved to have a pair of those gloves! Lol.

I also remember that even if I didnā€™t get the Times every single day, I would always try to be sure to get it on Thursdays to read the arts section and find out what the entertainment options would be for the weekend.

Um, they were silent. They simply used very willing others to get their story out. Others who also had a vested interest in Michael receiving justice. Notice those who railed the longest and loudest and dropped helpful hints along the way did not have a huge reputation, or any involvement, in the upper level dressage scene. Itā€™s called friends helping friends.

My mother had the gloves! She subscribed to New Yorker and the Sunday Times (and New York magazine, all while living in Ohio, lol). The gloves were black with ink pretty quickly, but her hands were inkless.

Yep! I canceled my NYT subscription 5 minutes ago (and told them why!).
