Well, some of those answers weren’t just out of left field, they were from a whole different ballpark in a different league. You read transcripts and prepare all you can and then you get, “I only worked enough to cover the board.” And things of that nature. That would take a moment or two to digest. More important, the pause gives the jury a moment to think, hey what??

Yeah, but those countries are generally third-world dumpster fires that don’t offer much in the way of a good life, unless you have a large pile of money to hide and can afford every amenity that you can squeeze out of the locals. At any rate, I doubt LK is going to be moving millions of dollars into a foreign bank, let alone that she has access to that sort of money.

There’s ethics rules about lawyers accepting gifts from clients, but you aren’t a client, probably will never be a client and have no expectation of anything in return. I can’t see how it would be an issue? Especially at a nominal amount.

Not saying I’m an expert. That’s just my immediate thought on it.

Plus the gifts would not be for the lawyers. They would be for the secretaries of the lawyers.

At least in my scenario.

But never ever give a gift, even cookies to court staff even at Xmas because some judges consider that a violation.

For years at Xmas the local Bar Association gave us cookies or candies and the new judge put an end to that. Thankfully she is gone. New judge was Uber cool.
