Breeder’s Cup 2019

I rewound it and it looked like his left hind was flopping. Definitely doesn’t look good.

You could see as he was pulled up it was left hind and bad. Also by the reaction of the crowd, nobody was looking at the winner. At least he did get into the van and no screens went up. Too bad, that was the race of his life, thought he had a good shot at winning for a bit.

McKinzie was switching tail several times in the stretch, did not seem to be from use of whip, but maybe had no more to give?

Ditto. Looked like a catastrophic LH injury. Hopefully the jockey was able to get him pulled up in time.

Could be. He swapped leads behind a couple of times; maybe just fatigue, but it caught my attention.

So does that make 36 deaths in 11 months now? I’ve always loved horse racing all my life, but I don’t want to even watch at Santa Anita anymore. I watched this Breeder’s Cup and instead of being excited, I had a pit in my stomach. Just waiting for one to go down. How awful that it went on to happen. I’m done with it, I’m afraid.

Oh no. I hope he’ll be OK but it sounds unlikely. :(:frowning:

I understand, I was just hoping no horse would go down and not caring so much about who won.

Saw replay, yes, it is bad.

He did stay on his feet, Theres that, did have a flashback to Go For Wand though, smack in front of the grandstand.

I was there, happened right in front of us. Catastrophic left hind. Screens went up immediately, but he was upright in the trailer.

Oh, no. I imagine adrenaline may have helped him on the van?

Someone tweeted that War of Will May have stepped on him, not sure if that is what happened.

I watched all 14 races over 2 days and was really enjoying the world class meet. Just devastating to have that happen to Mongolian Derby in the Classic. No words. 💔

I am hearing that it was contact with War of Wills that caused the injury and that Mongolian Groom was euthanized but don’t have links to provide for that so take it for what it’s worth.

Damn.

NBC Sports has video on Twitter, but they took it down and edited to be shorter, so it does not show Mongolian Groom now.

Several pp have said the WoW stepped on him.

I just watched the replay and War of Will never left the rail down the stretch. Mongolian Groom was to his outside when he broke down.

They sure avoided any camera shots with the screens visible. Knew it’s the winners right to celebrate but repeatedly saying what a wonderful day it was…well…hopefully they didn’t know and didn’t see.

If he did get stepped on, that’s not on the track or something anybody could do anything about.

was that today or for Go For Wand? I watched that on tv and was horrified. It is the worst I have ever seen.
I saw MG get pulled up, but I didn’t see his leg, fortunately. But I did see the horse ambulance.

I think Joel was hitting him and he freaked. I just never thought Mackinse was a mile and a quarter horse. Too bad. Did Bob and Mike both get shut out the whole weekend?

Go for Wand’s was a foreleg fracture, not a hind. She was a filly.
